A small but beautiful garden in the midst of the hustle and grind of Soho. Statues stay watch in this serene escape from the craziness that the city brings. You can immediately feel a sense of calm as you pass through the gates into this little beautiful getaway.
There is seating spattered throughout the park and it is a beautiful place just to sit, sip a coffee and get lost in a daydream.

Hidden Gem, nice for a short walk/relax. Amazing how quickly you can disassociate yourself from the city in here
Lots of places near by to get food or a coffee to take in and relax. Have also attended the movie nights a few times which were great

The founder’s elements of wine is my favorite class.

Loved touring the long ship Wavertree and the smaller Ambose. Got great pics and learned a bunch. A memorable and enjoyable experience with a dose of history and nostalgia. Glad we took the time to do this short excursion.

I love this garden, i love to sit there and talk to people from the neighborhood. I love the very social way this garden has been designed, the only thing that I don’t like are the volunteers there who most of the time are profiling people getting in and give an attitude. I unfortunately now ignore them most of the time over having a discussion with them. They must contribute in a good way to what the garden needs I’m sure but the attitude they are serving is absolutely out of the point.

Excellent experience

Nice place open to the public. A pretty quite place. People are very respectful.

We came for a drink on the terrace on Friday night, one of the first warm nights. There was a storm, and the rain was pretty heavy, but we didn't get wet. It was really nice to hear the thunder and raindrops, and all the little birds in the nearby tree. We ordered a flight of mezcal and a $3 beer since it was happy hour. The indoor bar looked really good too. I feel like it would pretty cool to come back for cocktail . The waiters were nice too. A good time.

Lovely little neighborhood garden but not enough seats. People hog the seats for hours. You can come in and look around but it’s hard for everyone to sit and enjoy the beauty. A nice idea though.

Great hidden place to walk and sit, especially with good weather. Apparently the city is trying to tear it down to develop a building.

Super cute spot with cozy, comfy seating in the back room. Our server Jacob was so patient and kind with our large party. Drinks are delicious! Definitely coming back ❤️

Gorgeous community garden and courtyard in the middle of busy Soho. A beautiful little break inside a bustling city. Great place to stop and eat after grabbing a hero at Parisi or pizza from prince st.
Make sure to donate as there are corporations gunning for it to be torn down and made into apartments! That would be a big shame!

The Cabinet has, without a doubt, the best taco in the east village. $3 per taco at the time of writing, it beats the spots charging $5 - $8 per taco by miles. Cocktails are in the $15 range and appropriately priced for the imaginative flavors and precise execution. $6 beers and ciders for those who desire. Beautiful interior, friendly staff. Recommended.

ALPHABET CITY STAND UP! One of the beautiful hidden gems of AC. I'm workshopping that acronym so bear with me.
If you like Mezcal, you need to come here. Trust me, I am a mezcal expert. I took one 60 minute mezcal mixology class when I was in Mexico City and ended up getting too turnt to retain anything, but an expert nonetheless.
I have been a few times and it's hit or miss on whether it is packed or not.
Crowd or no crowd, the staff has always been accommodating and patient.
They have a FANTASTIC happy hour where they have a flight of Mezcal for $18. Be careful, as that and a Paloma will have you leaning when you walk out of there.
I F'd up and didn't take pics of the drinks when I went, so that's on me. I've tried the mezcal flight, paloma, classic marg, peach margarita, and the cinnamon marg. Essentially everything on the happy hour menu ahahahaha.
My favorites were the Paloma & cinnamon marg. Quality that is.
Also, the little $3 tacos are the cutest little things I've ever seen. And yummy.
Love this place and it would be a great date spot fellas👀!!!!

In the super-crowded Soho/Nolita neighborhoods, this garden is an oasis. The highlight is the many architectural remnants, but there are a few unique trees of note. Friendly volunteers, be sure to chat up one of the gardeners if present. When I worked in the neighborhood, the garden was essential, with its urban beauty and plenty of areas to sit down and relax.
The city wants to take over the spot to sell to a developer (probably to build a generic glass tower), so it’s been an ongoing legal battle to save this community garden, which is the only green spot to be found for blocks.
Help save the garden! Even if you only visit the area occasionally, this oasis is so important to the community and visitors alike!

Small and cozy gardens with seating options. Sculptures all around you and other artifacts. Amazingly curated spaces.

Ashcan's instructors are amazing. More than that, the directors understanding of and kindness toward young adults applying to college, and all of the stress that goes with it, is unsurpassed. We are so grateful for the skilled instructors and kind souls of Ashcan!

Great calm place to study. Nice architecture and daylight.

Really nice space! There are often free books which have not yet been published. Quite and spatious.

We went during the Miracle on 9th Street pop up and it was such a cute spot! The tacky yet tasteful Christmas decor and variety of Christmas music made the vibe super festive.
We were seated immediately after arrival, and were told of the 90 min table limit. Drinks were all very distinct and unique - we got the Grandma Got Run Over By A T-Rex, Christmas Cricket, and Santa’s Little Helper. Took a while to get our drinks, but they were well worth the wait. Each came in a fun, different themed glass. Would highly recommend the Christmas Cricket if you’re into minty drinks & coconut / pandan flavors. Check this place out if you’re looking for a cute holiday bar!

My daughter has tried a half-dozen art programs in New York City in the past 10 years and Ashcan is the best one by far. The other programs had large and impersonal classes and often spent more time taking students on field trips to museums than on teaching them art skills. While that was fine when my daughter was younger, she wanted more instruction and studio time as she got more serious about her art. Ashcan helped her to develop skills, experiment with mediums, and collaborate with teachers and other students. It has become her second home this past year while she has been working on her college portfolio. Mr. Kim and the instructors are great and they work closely with every student to ensure a highly personalized experience. My daughter has learned so much, it has been amazing to watch her progress. She has won gold keys in the Scholastic art contest and was just accepted early decision to NYU's art program. We highly recommend the Ashcan experience!

They partnered with miracle pop up to fill the entire place with Christmas decorations. SO cute and festive! The menu is also Christmas themed as well.
It wasn’t that packed when I went a few days ago but I’m sure it will be soon

I love this school! I studied there for some time and Érica was the best teacher ever! I really miss our discussions!
Hope, you as well will get the education you are looking for.

A delightful, free, experience. Short and informative. The visit around the ship is included and that makes it worthwhile.
The exhibition is limited but I learned a fair bit.
There was a small tribute to Eric Carle in an annexe.
The ship has good information panels and it is fun to walk around below decks and above.

Took 6yo to tour the tall ship Wavertree. A step back in time. So impressive to see the scale of ropes and masts up close.
Free! Knowledgeable docents. A great interactive, educational activity while downtown/seaport area.

This free museum in Seaport is not too large. They said that flooding had ruined much of the walkable space and that repair efforts were underway. From what they had available, it was neat. There's a boat tour at the docks that they suggest visiting.

Awesome staff! Fantastic smelling Greenhouse, lol smells like Seasoning! All the plants reminded me of home - tropical! We went for a family planting workshop on Saturday, it was the first one, I think they pulled it off. The only thing is the wide age gap so they should specify an age range or before you go, call ahead to find out the ages of other participants to see if it's a match for your child. My brother was 10 and everyone else was preschool age so very wide gap. They hosted a scavenger hunt which probably wasn't too age appropriate but I can't speak for the others experience. Then we planted some peas in a pot and now I'm a plant mom :) I think they've still got some kinks to work out but they're good natured, good mannered people who know their plants so I'd give them a try!

Coming from a non-art background I went to Ashcan to get help with my portfolio. It was great working around other people with the same goals and with teachers that are knowledgable and passionate, and it was really helpful to have Mr. Kim there for advice and to always keep me on track with deadlines. After studying there 6 days a week for 8 months I was able to get into all the schools I applied to with very generous scholarships, including an MFA program with a fellowship offer. I feel that Ashcan definitely broadened my horizons in art, and I am extremely grateful to everyone at Ashcan!

The instruction here is very dedicated, patient and kind. When it comes to student work, the instructors will engage you on a level of depth and rigor you will not find elsewhere. In short, Ashcan is sure to help you bring your work to the next level. I'm grateful to have gone here, not only because I got into my dream school, but also because Ashcan was like a "second home"-a place to spend hours honing one's craft, surrounded by creative, inspiring peers. I highly recommend Ashcan for any art/design student!

Ashcan is the best school you can find to prepare your portfolio in NYC. All teachers were very supportive, in Special Mr. Kim; he helped me during the whole application process; it's was fundamental for my acceptance! I really appreciate the entire team from Ashcan!

The vibes and staff here are so fun and cute. The drinks aren’t crazy expensive and it’s definitely a great vibe for a cute date. I wasn’t a big fan of 3 out of 4 drinks we got. The naked and famous was 10/10, their version of an espresso martini (zapateado) was okay, but the caminante tasted like spicy cough syrup and the tiranosaurio was just straight Mindoro (insanely sweet apple). Might give this place one more try but would absolutely order something different.

While the South Street Seaport Museum is very small inside and everything can be read in 30 minutes (which I did,) the standout of the museum are the two ships that you can take guided tours on for free.
The whole museum was free on the day that I visited.
My husband and I went on 2/19/2022 and toured both the Wavertree and the Ambrose Guide Ships. Both ships are very different and if you could only tour one ship, go with the Wavertree.
The Ambrose is a tour of a guide ship, which is a ship that acts sort of like a lighthouse to guide ship's past low or rocky spots and into NY harbor. Before seeing the Statue of Liberty, people coming to the US would have first seen the lights of the Ambrose.
The Wavertree is a large metal cargo ships but with traditional sails as that we associate with pirate ships and Peter Pan. The hull is overwhelmingly large once you get in and many people were saying "wow!" once we climbed stairs down into the bottom of the ship.
This is a free museum but it's not appropriate for small children as it's exclusively reading based inside and the ships are not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs, and are generally not safe for kids who run around and climb on things.

I'm watching the videos nearly seven years after I left this school. So many memories!
Professor Alex, Carolyn, Wandel and Mia; I missed them!

I found Ashcan after a simple Google search hoping to improve my portfolio so I could get into my dream school, FIT. Sora and Mr. Kim were extremely helpful and patient with me, and explained everything thoroughly before I had started. I had close to no drawing skills whatsoever and I had never touched a sewing machine in my life, but thanks to Mr. Kim and Stefani, who helped with my sketches and garments, I learned many new things and my skills improved dramatically. I got into my dream school and I could not have done it without Ashcan. The environment is very comfortable, you are always surrounded by other passionate students with dreams. It is a little bit on the pricier side, but I think it was worth it, I am very happy with my results. Thank you so much !!!

Love this place! Usually has a nice crowd of people, but because of COVID it was almost empty. But still a nice place to come for leisure, admire the two old ships that are docked here. They have two nearby restaurants where you can sit and eat outside. But this place is a very historic part of New York City. You should definitely stop here when you are in New York City.

I studied in Ashcan for 8 months. Thanks to this school, I was able to improve my skills and knowledge a lot and make an amazing portfolio. The teachers are so professional and enthusiastic by giving their full attention to each students!! And the staffs are so nice and friendly. I’ve gotten into a school with a large amount of scholarship! Especially, director Kim, he contacted the school and helped me to get useful resources about application every time. I'm really grateful to Kim and teachers !!! I’ve studied in many other art schools, Ashcan is the best one ever. I strongly recommend this school!

One of the most affordable best schools for ESL in Manhattan

Interesting and tasty drink menu based on Mezcal and Rye cocktails, but other spirits are also available. They definitely worked to make sure we enjoyed our drinks - we will be back! In case you were a fan of Mace that has this spot before The Cabinet, it's the same owners but different mixology.

Our experience at T.H.I.S was excellent!! From the very first day my husband and I loved the welcoming staff. My son loved going there from day one. The teachers were great. He learned so much there, by the time he stared Pre-K, he was more than ready for it. What we liked the most was the nurturing environment, and the strong academic curriculum! The Director was one of the most sweetest and understanding person we had ever met! We felt like his teachers became part of our family! The school has also a very nice, well equipped outdoor play yard, which was very important to us since we wanted our son to spend sometime outdoor as well without having to go out of the school. Overall, very good experience, looking forward to join their summer program as well!!

I studied in the Flushing and Manhattan campuses of Ashcan Studio of Art as transfer student. I was accepted to my school of choice with a generous scholarship. I didn’t really have good skills of drawing and painting when I first went to Ashcan. Ashcan is full of instructors who are knowledgeable, responsible and accommodating. They often check on every student in the class and always try their best to teach more and help more with the specific project. The entire atmosphere in Ashcan was comfortable, friendly and inspiring. I felt that I made more progress after each project. What I like most about Ashcan is that they don't strictly operate as a business chasing profits, but that they are really art lovers. It was really worthy to study and prepare my portfolio in Ashcan.

Campus Education Flushing is a great place! Quiet and good for study. Stuff very nice and friendly.

Great place to study and is open to public!

I love the architecture. It finishes up both the quirky corner block and the other Reno Piano buildings in the space very nicely, interestingly from all sides. It also compliments the metal arches of the 1 train tracks and the 12th Ave viaduct beautifully.

A bit austere, but a nice new air conditioned space to meet for a coffee, share a meal, or sit and get some work done.

Nice little museum, perfectly located at this old neighborhood, that keeps the history of the original port of the city of alive. The boat is included in the ticket price and is a must see. People on board will gladly answer any questions and will give you a small tour. Great experience if you have never been on this kind of boats before. The rest of the museum will give you an idea of the immigrant experience when they were arriving in the city, but it's better if you visit Ellis Island, so that you get the whole picture.

Great class, informative and enthusiastically taught. Very good and interesting wine selection, and the pairings were excellent and surprising. I would go to another pairing, they have many. Check the site for their event schedule.

This attraction was included in the NYC pass so I didn't want to miss it.
Small museum but people still can get a bit of the past (mass immigration)
After you can visit the Liverpool ship where a lovely guy was explaining the history of the ship. He was very passionate about it so it was great to listen to him.
The volunteers truly love here what they do.

It's worse school. The teacher made fun of students. It waste of money and time to go there.

The pre-departure orientation was thorough and prepared us with english teaching training, as well. Local staff advocate for us and are supportive of our initiatives. They frequently request feedback and implement the recommendations of researchers and teaching fellows.

Astor Center itself is an Amazing Venue. If I were to post a review about the Venue I would give it 5 stars. My review is about the Fried & Fizzy event that was held at this venue.
The Tastings were amazing, The staff in charge of showing and explaining the Wine were extremely knowledgeable. The Tasting (Fried) portion of the event was to say the least non existent. I was prepared to broaden my knowledge and tantalize my pallet with an assortment of chicken. That did not happen. There was a cheese platter -which was nice but the advertisement says Fried Chicken. I as well as many other guest were extremely disappointed. Hopefully the event planners will either change the advertisement or add Fried Chicken to the event in the future

I inquired about TOEFL. Sign up if you're preparing to take the test.

Terrible customer service. I paid $158 several weeks ago to take the class and my girlfriend caught the flu this weekend and I was promptly told that in order to receive a credit for tonight's class I would have had to inform them 72 hours in advance. I did not want a refund I just wanted to apply the money towards a class scheduled on a different day when we both could attend. SORRY! NO CAN DO. So be sure to know you are going to get sick 3 days ahead of time. I won't be coming here ever again.

My first time attending a wine / food pairing / cooking class and I was very impressed. The new facility is fabulous for this sort of thing - very comfortable seating, good amenities at each seat, well placed cameras to view the details of the cooking. The chef instructor, Carl Raymond, was great - lots of fun and very knowledgable. It was a terrific, instructive evening - with great food and wine.

Lovely space with demo kitchens and screening rooms that hosts private events, regular classes and special celebrity chef appearances (e.g., Ming Tsai was here for the Lucky Rice Festival). On your way out, remember to stop by Astor Wines & Spirits directly downstairs for something to sip on when you get home.

I visited the space for a tasting event; the rooms were large and spacious but backed with people so it was difficult to maneuver around. The whole area had a nice ambiance with the lighting and all the people working there were nice and attentive. One thing I would change about the layout was where they had the coat check. Not a significant problem, but it was in a narrow area where people walked back and forth to get to the other room or wait for the bathroom etc, so it got crowded quickly just walking through. Overall, it was a nice space and you can hold many events with large crowds.

They have a good party space at this center for tastings and events! I just came back from one there for the Japan liquor event (Jetro) and can say I would go back there for another one if I could. The store and space is open and well sized with friendly staff and doorman.
