Beautiful area with great trails and major climbing section. Sweeping water views provide the hiker or climber ascetics as well as challenges. Several groups hiking or abseiling in the area and enjoying this fine fall day. Great parking area, picnicking area, and good facilities.

On Sunday during Tony's Birthday Trip, We stopped at CarderRock Recreation Area which is part of The Great Falls National Park. It can be seen on both sides of the Potomac River Gorges, Virginia and Maryland.

The fee is $20 per car. Once you pay, your receipt is good for 7 days at any park entry points, including both sides, either states.

At this location there is plenty of Parking but no Visitors Center. There is a nice bathroom facility though and plenty of picnic sites. Several trails along the gorge walls with slippery rocks so wear correct footwear.

I park here to start biking on the C&O canal trail. Always lots of free, open parking. There are three separate lots but they’re pretty close to each other.

This park can be a bit of pain to get to but it's worth it. The picnic areas are spacious and the trails are great. I've come here with small kids and haven't done much trailing yet. There are bathrooms on site and I've found parking easily.

Historic climbing area, slippery slabs, polished holds. A friendly crag for beginners and local climbers who want to do some top roping. Please wipe your climbing shoes free of dirt before climbing, the footholds are small and polished and getting worn down faster in recent years!

A really great place with plenty of parking. There's an area that is widely used for outdoor rock climbing, some areas are still slippery from the previous rain. We also saw several blue-tailed skinks near the climbing rocks. Currently the river water is fast moving and muddy due to all the rain

Right off I 495, this area overlooks the Potomac River. It's an excellent spot for families and friends to picnic on a warm day. One can also enjoy a short hike along the Billy Goat Trail Section C. The trail is dog and kid-friendly. There's a climbing area as well for climbers to practice.

Attractive, shaded picnic grounds with plenty of parking and nearby indoor restrooms. Close to the trailhead for the Billy Goat trail and next to the C&O Canal towpath.
