One of my favorite missions, we attended the Sunday mass at 11:00 AM in Spanish, it was very nice, please bring cash for donations.
Beautiful and very well kept. The marquis/plaques along the walking path and in the Church was very informative.
I'm not sure where to post a review for the San Antonio Saga cathedral projection show; I know the cathedral isn't the organization running the show, but I'm going to write here 👍. This show is sooooooo cool. I love learning a bit about Texan (San Antonio) history and being entertained at the same time! Great experience. If you're going to San Antonio, this is a must. They also have yoga classes outside of it periodically. Check out their insta @mainplaza_sa. So fun.

The San juan mission Church is a beautiful place to visit. Part of Texas is so much history between the Spanish and the natives and the Americans

Historical grounds & information provided throughout the Mission. Enjoyable day trip & good walking tracks.
Such a beautiful cathedral, don't just do the Saga but take the time to go in and pay respects. It's worth spending the time traveling in the chapels history and beauty. There are several grave stones inside one must really see. We visited on a Thursday afternoon it was not too crowded and there were options for candle lighting and space should you want to leave your own. There are daily masses at noon on Weekdays should you wish to attend. A small donation is recommended for visiting.
I am my soon to be wife went to this church for a wedding retreat.
The place is beautiful. The atmosphere is very calm and soothing. We spent three days there, and it was a great experience. There is plenty of parking. There’s even a prayer garden, the Deacon and the staff that we encountered there were all very helpful and friendly.
We were there for a funeral, so not a happy occasion. The caretaker there was very friendly and informative about the "miracle" that occurred with the Mary statue.

The water fountains work

No tickets are required. Free entry. Daily masses operate here.. This Mission is set up like a small city. Walking through this place, feels like walking through time. There is free parking on site. The perfect catholic pilgrimage for our family within the states.
Beautiful church! I’m new to this church and man I love it! They offer spanish mass daily which is a plus! You can absolutely feel God’s presence in this church
Beautiful Church.
Stunning!
The alter is a must see.
Quiet is asked of visitors.
No tickets needed.
After visiting this beautiful Cathedral, there were signs outside advertising a Lazer light that was projected on the outside of the Cathedral it was outrageous, really awesome. Check it out. It's going for a few weeks Tuesday thru Saturday.
We also went to mass , which was also beautiful. Also, check out the concerts they have once a month. The light show is free.
RGB.
Beautifull place, you feel the peace inside there, nothing compare with a god place
What an amazing story to read about and see history first hand. The work the staff does to make sure these missions remain intact and up to date is amazing. The hard work is seen as you realize these grounds have been worked for over 300 years and yet today they still use hands and no machinery. Another must see while viewing San Antonio History. This is Free!!!
We enjoyed a walking tour early on a beautiful morning. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about dates, people, and history of the area. Heroes of the Alamo are buried here.
We went late (9pm) and caught the free projection show. Pretty building from outside. The show was nice. Maybe don't project faces on the large glass/window as they don't display well on a transparent medium. Nice plaza with plenty to see.

The park ranger here was really nice!! Gave a very informative talk on the history of the mission! Thank you!
A very relaxing park to walk through, visit the mission (it's still active as a parish!), learn some Texas history and get to enjoy a picnic. They have bicycles you can borrow too to bicycle on the trail
Always good to remember our lord because of what Jesus did for us many many moons ago
Beautiful church in the middle of the Westside. What more can you say than the pride and joy of the Westside. Pope John Paul the 2nd ventured here back in the 1980s if I'm not mistaken.
The San Jose Mission holds a special place in my heart as one of the most cherished destinations in San Antonio. Stepping onto its grounds, you're immediately whisked away to a different era, enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility and beauty that stands in stark contrast to the contemporary world outside its walls. It's truly a serene oasis that offers a unique glimpse into the past.
This church is beautiful! I was born on Guadalupe St.and love La Virgen de Guadalupe.. The priests n brothers who have served the people were all inspiring. I actually was a teachers aide at the Catholic School there in the 70’s. Viva nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe! Let’s keep her alive by going to visit the church; when you go inside you will see the beauty. At one time the Virgen shed tears.
We attended my niece's wedding and the Basilica still as beautiful as ever. My first time visit was in 1955. I remembered the towering steps and the huge doors. I recommend for all to visit! Enjoy!
What a beautiful Catholic Church. I've always wanted to see & visited which I finally did last Saturday. I was so intrigued & felt my Lord Jesus Christ in the Church. This Church has alot of History about Jesus that led to His Crucifixion & died on the Cross ✝️ for our sins. I recommend anyone to go & see the Church yourself & feel the Love & Holy Spirit inside the Church!
This place is by far the most serene, beautiful and peaceful place I've ever been. Truly moving and full of God's grace!!
Such a beautiful place!

When I first went there, a lot of people were wondering if I went to Spain or Mexico. When I said I went to Texas they did not believe it. I’ve only seen pictures of it on tour guides but definitely more beautiful in person

We went there on a weekday in the morning so it wasn’t too busy. It takes you around maybe 15-30 minutes to walk through

Would recommend dropping by this historic site.
Visually my favorite catholic church inside and out. Went to a Spanish service loved the singing and music!
This is MY church since childhood. I always drive there from Alamo Ranch to pray and be thankful for my blessings!!!
Mass was wonderful and the congregation was very welcoming for visitors to the parish. The music ministry sings beautifully.
The architecture in the church is sublime and I enjoyed taking a look at the stations of the cross as I walked in. The community seems very kind.
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I have been going here for 10 years.
BEAUTIFUL RIGHT ❣️
😇🙏 BLESSINGS EVERYONE ❤️
Mission San Jose boasts breathtaking architecture. The self-guided tour, a symphony of sights and sounds, The grounds unfold with a gift shop and a stained glass workshop, adorned by information signs unraveling snippets of history. Abundant photo opportunities grace every corner, enticing exploration. The expansive trail, a canvas of history, beckons me, though venturing alone feels daunting. The bike trail awaits,
Within Mission San Jose, this church stands as its defining feature. Constructed simultaneously with the mission, it remains an integral part of its history. Among the all four nearby missions, our tour guide believed this one was the most successful in establishing a stronghold for Spanish colonizers.
Had my great-grandfathers funeral here.
It's a beautiful basilica in San Antonio named after St. Teresa of Lisieux of France. A side chapel dedicated to her is worth visiting.
The altar is beautiful and it's spectacular around the Christmas time with all the poinsettias. You will feel a wonderful sense of peace and quiet and respected tradition in this sacred church.
I missed Spanish mass at my parish so looked online for a Spanish mass around 1:00 pm. They have one at 1:30. The church is beautiful, close to an Italian plaza, parishioners friendly and the mass was beautiful with a great homily.
If you have time to visit one of the missions in San Antonio, Mission San Jose should be on your list. We were lucky enough to take a tour with a park ranger, who told us about the history of this mission and pointed out some of the features like the frescos. Of course the the church is beautiful too.
So beautiful! Just to realize the age and architecture... Uhhhh. Amazing! I actually went there to prey. I was taken a back just to be there again
Beautiful building. Loved the history of San Antonio light/projection show they have at the front of the church. Highly recommend watching it.
It's such a beautiful place to visit. It doesn't matter how many times you've seen it. It never gets tiring. Fall weather made it even more perfect to walk around and enjoy history. We made it just in time before the bus load of tourists pulled up. Go early if you want to take pictures before the crowd comes in.
Beautiful church, first time visiting for a wedding.
A beautiful shrine to our Little Flower. A great place to pray or meditate and of course go to Mass.
Our third stop here was especially exciting as they had a larger visitor Center that featured a 22 minute long film to watch the history of this area and the Mission San Jose Church. This Mission had a more complete version of the Mission itself. It appeared to be the largest of the four in the area. Church was wonderful to see as well.
We came for the laser show they put on for Cinco de Mayo. It was a cool show and we’re glad that we came. They put it on around dusk. Kids liked it as well and awesome plaza and park in front. Seating is hard to come by so arrive early or plan on sitting on the ground or standing the whole time.
My family chose to rent the hall at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on El Paso St to celebrate my sister's 80th birthday.

The church is home base for many of our family.

It was a blast from the past! The building has the hall downstairs, kitchen area, and it was perfect for a gathering of family members in town and visiting guest.

We were able to have sufficient tables, decorations were set up, a table for pictures of her life events, and music from her school days provided by family.

I mentioned a blast from the past because the old school building was next door where two of us attended 1st through 8th grade.

Looking up to the ceiling from the hall came memories of my 8th grade class with Sister Agnes.

Overall it is a nice place for small get togethers, parties, and parking is within the church grounds.

The hall building rear entrance a faces Sidney Lanier High School and is the parking entrance.

The Church faces The Avenida Guadalupe where many functions are held and is located next to the Guadalupe Theatre.

Both I believe are also available for organizations and public rental

So, plenty of fun by family and guest, and a wheelchair ramp available if needed.

A stroll around the Avenida or by the Theatre is nice.
The cathedral is religiously gorgeous! We attended the Saturday vigil mass and view the architecture afterwards. Many religious artifacts and glass arts were donated by generous people. It is very fascinating to witness the prayer room and able to stand at the heart of San Antonio!
Absolutely breathe taking. I definitely recommend the SA Light Saga to Catholic and non catholic alike. It's one of a kind!
Beautiful shrine for Saint Therese the Little Flower. Be sure to see the painting her youngest sister painted in her honor for her beatification. The beautiful painting is massive and almost floor-to-ceiling. It's located in the basement of the church.
Excellent place to visit. Mission Espada y es de farthest so7rh of all four and the smallest one but is the most majestic of all. Beautiful decorated, their grounds are nicely kept, and their history is wonderful. They have a museum and the catedral is open for visitors. It's a must to visit this place.
Probably the prettiest of the 5 missions we visited. It is smaller, but that was nice because it was very hot the day we visited. You can enter the church when it is not holding mass. The grounds are beautiful with the trees and some walking areas. There are several plaques that tell about the mission similar to what you see at the other missions. When we were there we only saw maybe 5 total people visiting and the 1 worker in the gift shop.

It is a great place to walk around a nice area at the mission and easily access the mission/riverwalk trail at close to it's farthest southern point. It is also nice that it is free to visit and see the beauty.
It's a beautiful church. They even have a gift shop with amazing gifts. Also inside the gift shop is a history about the church. There's a light show I believe every night at 9pm with vendors in the court yard.
Gorgeous church hidden downtown. I’ve lived here my entire life and never knew this beautiful structure existed. The walls are floor to ceiling frescoes with huge stained glass windows. It isn’t a big church, but one of the most detailed and exquisitely decorated Catholic Churches in San Antonio.
Extremely beautiful church with a great history. Highly recommend checking out the tours that the secular order puts on, great and informative tour. Everyone that can should donate to the church’s restorative fund.
The church is a remarkable blend of simplicity, beauty, and rich history, adorned with exquisite art that offers diverse perspectives on faith. Its serene atmosphere encourages contemplation and deepens one’s understanding of spirituality. Through its intricate artwork and historical significance
I've been going to this church for years. From baptism to communion to confirmation, my whole life is here at Immaculate Heart of Mary. I especially love the interior with the stain-glass windows. Service is always great to listen to, since the priests know their stuff. I'll be going to this church for many more years.
Wow! Beautiful church for my nieces wedding, the sweetest church wedding coordinator, and an awesome priest who stepped in,due to illness of the original priest. He was excellent: philosophical, kind, funny, just so endearing. 🥰🥰🥰🥰I was one of the readers and the sound system was Perfection! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
✝️ Beautiful Historical Site ✝️

Perhaps most renowned for being the resting place of the Alamo heroes, Cathedral of San Fernando should be on every tourists’s itinerary of stops.

This medium-sized cathedral boasts beautiful colors, architecture, and atmosphere. From the statue of San Antonio out front, to the relics on display within, there are many artifacts to witness in person. Photographers will marvel at the silhouettes, balance, and alignment within.

The cathedral allows visitors to respectfully approach the altar, which must be seen up close in all its rich detail. Because services are held here and many come to pray during daylight hours, a respectful silence is asked of all who enter.

I visited around Christmastime when the cathedral had a “history of Texas” projection in the front of the cathedral. If you get the opportunity to see it, don’t miss out!
✝️ Peaceful, Quiet Sanctuary ✝️

Mission Espada feels like the smallest of the Missions. It's a serene space populated with lush green grass, coiling trees, and many opportunities for repose. Some of my favorite family photos were taken at this spot, with its tranquil benches, vibrant potted plant-life, and rustic stonework. The silhouette of the Mission against the sky--complete with its bells--is lovely to behold.

There's a gift shop on-site, for those wishing to take home a memento of their Mission pilgrimages, as well as restrooms for convenience. I visited around Christmastime and enjoyed the festive flourishes that decorated the grounds.
Great place to visit with the entire family. Trails located in the rear part of the chapel. Family and I love it. Will visit again soon.

Beautiful church, undergoing some construction out front. The inside of the cathedral was amazing! We were in the day after the service for the fallen Pope. Very somber feeling. Amazing to see the pipe organ! Beautiful cathedral backdrop! Just amazing! Glad we walked to see it.
This place is so interesting to see, especially since part of it is still standing and still in use. It has plenty of parking (which is nice) and really clean bathrooms. Plan on about 30 to 40 minutes here- and of course admission is free.
Wonderful experience! Very educational and informative. We were only going to visit a couple, then we were so interested we visited all of them. FYI... Bathrooms at every location.
Holly Mother Church
A Church full of Angels and God’s children
Mission Espada was founded in 1731 when the area was New Spain and is one of the four San Antonio Missions that belong to NPS that you can see. It is still an active Catholic Church as well. All four missions are beautiful and for all the similarities, each is very unique. Of the four, this one is in the most ruins. It is just incredible to stand there looking around on a hot, humid Texas September day and think about the people that lived here. Bathrooms are available to the right after you enter the mission from the visitor entrance. Paths are paved and easy to walk. Just be aware some of the edges can be a bit jagged, so watch your step. The mission is free, but the church asks for a donation in the sanctuary to help maintain the grounds.
Peaceful.
Very friendly community.
The priests relate to everyday life without getting politics involved!
Very beautiful church. I’ve loved coming here every so often. However today I was disappointed that the priest made my handicapped mother get out of the pew to receive communion. She was in the first row and the priest could have easily administered communion at her seat. 🤷🏻🙏🏾
Blessed to have been able to visit! ❤️ Strongly recommend it. From an architectural perspective, gorgeous, worth the visit, and comparable to some of the basilicas I visited in Spain, and from a Catholic and spiritual perspective, my heart was moved.
I went to Mass here for the first time on September 12, 2021, for the Feast of San Francesco di Paola. The parishioners here were very welcoming and kind. After Mass there was a procession carrying the statue of St. Francis around the park in front of the parish. After the procession there was a meal at the Christopher Columbus Italian Society Building. If you haven't been to this parish, I recommend you stop by for Mass. The folks here are amazing!!
Very Beautiful Catholic church of Our Blessed Beloved Mother Mary. Very friendly brothers on faith. I like it very much and the Mass in our language.
My Family loves going there every Monday thur Thursday and Sunday morning.
Been a petitioner for life! My grandparents, my parents and myself♡ great community
Since coming from California several years ago we have been members to several large churches in SA, but I have to say the parish family of San Francesco Di Paola Church have welcomed my wife and I with open arms. The friendliness and kindness of the members, parish priests and Rector make it a joy to come to Church each Sunday and to participate in the Mass Service.
More than a century now, this lovely house of God stands tall, named after His Mother's Heart that holds God's children close, against all storms, all evils.
Beautiful church with a friendly group of parishioners.
I’m not sure what the issue is with the couple of haters in older reviews, but they obviously have issues that transcend their Christian beliefs. I have been going to this church since I was a small child in the 50’s. It has seen good times and not so good times, primarily from the changing demographic in the area. The history of the builders and their families is what makes this a rich, vibrant place for the community. Sorry if you had a bad perception but look inward...

There has been more love of God and family in this church that you can imagine. I hope it survives the current decline in attendance and that the Italian community, of which this church was built, and that started with a couple of dozen families, now numbering in the thousands, continues to ensure this remains a place to celebrate faith and the fortune that American brought to these immigrants. Peace.
Nice little church, with beautiful green landscape. Nice rooms for a bride and bridal party to gather before the big event.
Its my church from since childhood
MUST GO here if you're seeking a place where very humble, deeply passionate faith is alive. Really one of the very best catholic masses in all the archdiocese.
Very beautiful setting. Nice people, elegant and full of spirit
Very beautiful church,I was baptized there 60 years ago.
A CARING church providing CONCERN for those of Faith. This is not my Church; however, I felt as if it was with the AMOUNT OF LOVE I received! The SPIRIT of OUR GOD AND OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST is DEFINITELY PRESENT!
My first time here. Congregation was warm and welcoming. They had a guest Priest speaker from Madagascar that shared his story and interacted well with my kids. Also they had a rummage sale and new hours of 930am and 1130am which work well with my families schedule so we hope to return soon!
Beautiful architecture. It was so nice to see the missions first hand. If you're anywhere near San Antonio, the missions are a must see. Such an important part of our country's history. I just wish I had been able to see the inside of the church ( I got there too early - the church opens at 10 ).
If I could give NEGATIVE stars for this place, I would! The people are unfriendly and rude. We used to attend a few years ago when they had a regular Priest who was very nice and SPIRITUAL. Back then, the mass and the music were beautiful. The organist, Andrew, was an exceptionally gifted and talented musician and the choir, as well as the hymns they sang, were the best we have ever heard ANYWHERE. Unfortunately, he and the former priest are no longer there and what we experienced now is a "half-hearted" attempt at Catholicism. They have started using the organ again, but the organist is terrible and the priest(s) and the people are just rude and unfeeling. I think we will just give-up on this place and find another church.
We normally attend St. Joseph, decided to attend mass here for the Feast of St. Francesco di Paola (4/6/14). Italian-Americans are certainly more outgoing than German-Americans. Several parishioners came up to us, introduced themselves, and warmly welcomed us. It was interesting to listen to their stories of being 2nd & 3rd generation parishioners, weddings, etc. Everyone was very nice and they seemed to like Father Tony (the new priest). The church itself is very simple but nice. White on the inside with chandelier lights & stained glass windows but nothing extraordinary. The stations of the cross were in Italian. Mass was in English, Spanish, & Italian, but I think that was due to the special occasion. There was a St. Francis relic & a sandwich lunch/dinner after, which was a bit disorganized. I overheard some parishioners say it was never that disorganized before & that the food was always good. Either way we enjoyed it.
If you are Hispanic or anything other than "Italian" or part of one of these families, STAY AWAY! The church is beautiful, but the people there are a bunch of unfriendly, back-stabbing, bigots and hypocrites that gossip, lie and pretend to be Holy. The organ music was the only GOOD thing about the place. But once they got rid of the organist, the music and the mass are so horrible that there is nothing there to make us want to attend. To make matters worse, the new "priest" (if you could call IT that) believes he is Jesus!! If this is the only Catholic Church that is near you, become a Protestant or an Atheist!
