Nice traditional restaurant in the heart of Aachen. Very friendly service, fantastic atmosphere. Food is basic but tasty. Don’t expect gourmet — but that’s okay! Fair prices, good quality. Would come back.

Great food, great staff, great music. Not overpriced, typical and tasty German food!

Very nice restaurant in the very centre of Aachen. Food is very good and the people are very friendly and helpful.
Only small complaint is the noise management in then lower part. Because of the structure of the basement, it can be a bit noisy when there are many people eating and talking.
Great set menu restaurant serving fine food...helpful staff...delicious cuisine....serving the food is a bit late.
Excellent service.
The interior ambience is too good and takes you in the 16th century .
Wonderful restaurant. From the interior looks like it has been around for a very long time. Had the schnitzel which was hugh. Served hot with fried potatoes. Service was fast considering how busy the were. Also had the mushrooms sauce on the side and was very flavorful.
Tasty Nuremberg sausages and a nice view of the historical gothic city hall

This restaurant is fantastic! The staff is lovely, especially Charlotte, who was very nice, joyful, and exceptionally hospitable. The food is absolutely great and of top quality—compliments to the chef! The atmosphere is cozy and warm, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal. Highly recommended!

Historic Gasthaus right in the centre of Aachen. Walking inside it feels like you are stepping into history. Good traditional and regional dishes at reasonable prices.

Schnitzel was nice, would be better with mashed potatoes.
This was our last diner in Aachen. We just stepped in without a reservation. Despite the fully booked tables, we were welcomed. While awaiting for a table, nice cocktails was made. After drinking the cocktails we were escorted to the table they prepared for us. We have had a 3 course meal. The table service was very pleasant. Thank you all including the chef for this special and warm evening! Till the next time!

Visit the restaurant alone but the staff was very friendly, especially thanks to the bartender Charlotte that made the communication very easy. The chef made an amazing kalbtartar and Weiss spargus to dessert grappa from the region an espresso. Thanks to all staff!

We struggled to find anywhere in Aachen open around 8-9pm (we arrived late from Brussels), so we were pleased to find this busy, friendly restaurant. The salmon and potatoes I had was very good, and good to see this on the menu alongside the usual large meat and sausage dishes. It was good value too.
Had such a wonderful set menu for Easter. The wine was so well priced for what we had and the service was outstanding. Really wish we lived closer to come back again! Thank you.
Location is great, right in the city center of the city, next to the town hall.
Dinner here was good. Our server was very nice, kind and fast.
Good meal at a decent price. They did not rush us to leave the place as soon as possible. We have two kids with us, they were very kind to them.
I really enjoyed here.

We believe this restaurant shares its kitchen and staff with the Postwagen, where we tried to eat first but with no success as we were “forgotten” upstairs…
We then decided to try Ratskeller, as the menu was appealing and the other restaurants nearby seemed to offer mainly fast-food.
The food was overall very good, although I wasn’t too fond of the pheasant (but the poached pear and oysters as entrées were both good, and the cod as well). The only problem was, again, the service. The restaurant didn’t seem very big, and although we saw at least 5 people working there (including the same lady that was at the other restaurant), everything took a long time (just bringing the menu and taking our order took around 30 minutes, and when we finished ordering our dinner, we were asked if we wanted the wine list, even though the very last thing we asked for was a bottle of a Chardonnay… 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ oh, and the bottle didn’t come, just a glass, but that’s ok). We also noticed that some other people that were already there seemed to wait a long time for their dishes as well.
The staff was friendly and they spoke English and French, which was a plus, but the service was a little underwhelming especially since we were already hungry from our wait at the Postwagen.
I would still recommend this restaurant and prefer to give it the benefit of doubt.
Awesome, we have no reservation but she making place for us. Fast service, friendly people, good food and big choice for drinks and eating on the menu. Price and quality are very good.
Restaurant in the center of Achen with typical German kitchen and beers.
Overall was a nice experience but I would expect bigger portions and cold beers. Maybe was just a bad day.
Excellent Haxe, wonderful Strudel, fantastic beers ! What more could a man want
This place used to be one of my favourite place to go for local dishes. Unfortunately this time the Flammkuchen was undercooked and the Bratkartoffeln was tasteless. The food came also cold. It's sad to see the quality plunged to this level. I hope they fix the food quality as I would love to come back.
Does NOT live up to its name! Although initially friendly to seat us without reservation, the food was disappointing. Ordered a big schnitzel with creamsauce an d received just a small bowl of sauce. No sauce for fries. Schnitzel was dry, snd the meatballs as well. Also meatballs came without sauce, but instead had a misplaced bowl of tzatziki.
Waiter never once placed anything on our table, he just handed it to you.
This is not even a Bronze Schwein!
I visited the Goldener Schwan with my extended family this week. So, four adults and two children. We wanted to sit inside, so there was no problem finding a table; no need for a reservation, and there was no wait. My family all had traditional German fare - all of which I would highly recommend based on the comments of my family. This included haxe, sauerbraten, and schnitzels for the kids. I'm vegan, and then chef was able to make me a vegan salad (even though it's not on the menu!). The waiting staff were very polite, happy to give recommendations, and happy to help me with my vegan order.

I would definitely go back the next time I am in Aachen.
Perfect location and good food for a sunny afternoon.

Came here to try authentic german cuisine, I was quite surprised that the stuff members speaks very good English which made it was easier to communicate. I took the chicken in creamy sauce and won’t hide my disappointment. It had some kind of a very strong taste that I couldn’t identify (probably some kind of cheese) that bothered me since I am not really used to this kind of tastes. All the rest was fine I really like the extra crispy fries.
Loved the place. Highly recommended if you want to have a true german lunch. Schnitzel well executed: uniform thickness and crispy outside. Pepper sauce dresses the meat very well, and it’s even better to dip your french fries.
Tomato soup and the salad were pretty good as well - very refreshing!

One thing I would like to point out is that the men’s bathroom had a strong pee smell… I don’t know how clean are German bathrooms, but definitively a point to take care of. So 4/5 stars to the atmosphere.

Staff was very friendly! Overall, very nice experience. Would go back again!

So nice. Food was delicious but the lemon tart was frozen solid at the end for dessert. Was quite a chore.
Delicious schnitzel softy meat and pepper sauce with mushrooms is so creamy.
Burger is tasty, bun is soft and crispy, tzatziki sauce full of cucumber and dill.
French fries was easy job for kitchen 10/10.
Price is correct.
Recommend this place for lunch. Dont forget beer after lunch! 👍
The service was pretty good, staffs were very friendly. The foods were however very salty 🥲 we ordered a flame cake and a pork knuckle, salt level in flame cake was overkill...

Schnitzel was perfectly cooked. I got the mushroom sauce which was delicious and surprisingly nice and light. Not heavy at all. Fries were well seasoned and crispy. Not to mention the staff was super friendly and helpful. Would easily go again. Worth the walk away from Rathaus.
Our favorite place to eat in Aachen when we want some local food. The haxe with sauerkraut and potatoes is great.
If you like sweet beer, try their banana beer 🍌🐵
