Cycling up the C & O Canal Path from Georgetown, this site was well worth the effort! The boardwalk trail brings visitors over a very special place, situated right in the middle of the Potomac. Unforgettable views of the falls and river.
View of the great falls from this point is much better compared to the Virginia side of the Potomac river. As a bonus, you can also see the baby sister and little sister falls. They are also beautiful like this one.
Beautiful overlook of the falls! It's a very easy and accessible walk as well. Olmsted Island IS NOT dog friendly so either leave your furry friend at home or with a friend or family members on the canal trail.
Great every time, any time of year. Easy bike ride from DC on c&o toe path.
The Maryland side of Great offers a bit more captivating view of nature. Not only do you get the spectacular view of the river, but also some of the smaller falls in the surrounding area, not to mention the lush green area also. A very peaceful walk through nature indeed

Following trails to great falls was not too far from parking lots. There was no fee for parking when I visit.

Many people, not the best paths and a somewhat difficult view which causes some to take a risk, but a beautiful sight nonetheless. Free to visit, in case that worries anyone, and good for a family trip, hike and/or picnic on the weekend.
Awesome trail walk with beautiful views. Amazing watch the river flow like crazy. Easy parking, and concession stand. $10 entrance fee, but tons of trails and cool locks to explore.
