Fujiya massively lived up to the hype! There was a little bit of a wait when we walked in, but we were able to put our phone number down and get a text, so we walked around Walnut for 10 minutes before we got a table. Service was professional, quick, and very impressive. This perfectly complimented the absolutely delicious food - this menu is not messing around. We got two appetizers and one entree, which was perfect to share. Every dish just blew us away. We can't wait to come back!

What a great-looking restaurant. Too bad the service was so bad that we had to leave before even being given a glass of water. The wait staff is terrible. The place was not nearly full and we had people seated on either side of us who were both served. We must have been invisible to the wait staff because after 15 minutes of no interaction, we left. The wait staff was hanging out in the bar talking to each other not paying any attention to customers. What a terrible experience. If I knew the manager's contact info I'd contact him.

Absolutely delicious food, with great service!!! The pork and chive gyoza are incredible. We ordered the beef ramen and the Kaisen ramen, both were gobbled up quickly. I wish we had saved some room to order some yakitori, the table next to us had some and it looked great too.

I’m a regular here and today’s experience was just phenomenal so I decided to leave a review which I rarely do , I often order sashimis and have unique taste when it comes to Japanese food , my partner and I enjoyed the botan ebi and otoro so much and they gave us a good portion today . The desserts were mind blowing ! They were so yummy .It makes me so happy and appreciative that they take effort to home make their little things and I really taste every bit of love and passion 🥰 The sweetest waiter serves us most time and I can tell they receive good training so thank you Kiku! Only thing is if the scallop can be priced down or portion can be more generous , and the omakase can have more high end fish and unique variety of food :)

Delicious! Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Japanese flavors in the area. The soft shell crab buns, yakitori, Unagi Don, and tempura ice cream were all amazing. I will definitely be back to try the ramen!

I hadn’t had good sushi in a while but this place was great, definitely worth the price. The wait staff was very kind and made very good suggestions when we were stuck on making a decision. The ambiance is also really great with a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Fujiya Ramen in Pittsburgh is a real gem if you're craving authentic Japanese flavors. One thing that sets them apart is their range of vegetarian options, which is great for those with dietary preferences.
During our visit, we sampled a bit of everything - drinks, appetizers, ramen, and dessert - and each dish was a delightful surprise. The flavors were spot on, and it's clear that they put a lot of care into their recipes.
Overall, our experience was amazing, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fujiya Ramen to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try more of their menu!

I have been going to this place for appx. 30 years, being from NYC, and having a wife from Tokyo, I have a pretty good understanding of what a Japanese / Sushi restaurant is supposed to be. So far, in 30 + years, I have not had better in Pittsburgh. They adhere to the protocols for handing raw food the same as they do in Japan. I have had numerous marginal experiences in Pittsburgh in this category, whom I will not name here, but I want to stay positive. They don't focus on "fusion", their menu items are traditional. Handy Tip: If a restaurant is serving food from 5 different countries, It's unlikely to be great at any of them. The food here is fresh, and the staff is knowledgeable. They make many things in house like brewing the soy sauce, and making the ginger dressing (old school is the best school in this arena). Over the years I have happily had most everything on the menu.

YUM YUM YUM! There is a reason this place is so packed!
I got their spicy signature miso ramen and their pork and chive goyza appetizer.
Honestly I think I could get that everytime I’m there! The appetizer is perfect size to share, or eat as a meal. However I wouldn’t pass up the ramen! Plus the corn gives the perfect touch of sweetness. The egg is to die for, I think I need like 10 of them in my ramen next time! Big portions!

So delicious!
I'm pretty sure the noodles are homemade but the broth 🔥🔥🔥
Service was prompt and competent. My brothers come here at least once a month and love the lady who owns the place.

First time there. My daughter suggested it. She took Japanese in high school. A little on the small side with a lot of decor. Server was really nice. Food options was very interesting. I basically had chicken and ramen noodles. With lettuce. The chicken could have been cooked a little longer. But a good place to try.

Authentic, delicious Japanese food with 5-star service to match. This spot is truly a gem and my only regret is that it took me so long to come here! This will definitely be a staple for me and reminds me of all the food I grew up eating at home.
Udon noodles are fresh, salmon onigiri (rice ball) hit the spot, my husband loved his katsu curry and my picky-eater son is a chicken karaage connoisseur - he loved the karaage here.

There can at times be a wait as they do not take reservations, but it is so worth it. The tonkotsu ramen is amazing, and I really enjoy the pork katsu curry dish. Amazing sake list and mixed drink menu.

My partner surprised me with a visit to Kiku earlier this week. I had been recommended by a friend but never got the chance to go until now. I have eaten at many sushi spots in Pittsburgh, and I can argue that this is one of the best. The service is amazing, food comes out quickly and staff is kind and on top of things! We had some appetizers and the sushi for 2 as our main meal! Try the nigiri!!! It’s fresh and flavorful, it melts in your mouth! The matcha ice cream is amazing too, it’s homemade! Can’t wait to come back.

I went there on Wednesday with some friends and family and the food was delicious, especially the Okonomiyaki. The atmosphere was lovely and our server was very nice to us. We will definitely be back! (Also, the shrimp tempura was very good!) (Also, I went here back in March of last year with some family and friends, and the food and atmosphere were very nice and lovely, and our server was very nice to us!)

Fast and good service, excellent ramen. Very clean and good atmosphere.
Very authentic ramen and lots of toppings to add. There was very little wait time to be seated, even at a very busy time. Service was excellent and very quick to be served food but a little hard to get their attention sometimes.
Would definitely be coming back.

My husband loves Japanese culture, so I took him here for his birthday dinner. It did not disappoint! The atmosphere was lovely, the waiter was nice, and the food was excellent, especially the Okonomiyaki. We will be back!

We found this place in 2020 when we moved here from California. The staff is amazing. The hot food is very good, tempura plates, udon, tataki. The raw fish is okay. It's not the highest quality for sashimi, which I prefer, but their rolls are yummy. I have the atmosphere a three star just because it's not really busy during weekend lunches when we typically go and so it's just quiet but that's not bad either.

Excellent food, and service. Our first time there and will definitely go again. Helpful waitress with questions about menu items.
Option for bento boxes on the lunch menu.

The velvet seats at the tables were stained and nasty. Wouldn’t accept a local flavor coupon that was within the dates. We left and will never be back.

Enjoyed the really broth-heavy fish and some of the veggies. Definitely an emphasis on szechuan spice which can be a good or bad thing. Some dishes lack certain flavors which make it a little more underwhelming.

Absolutely amazing food. Everything I've ordered has been off the authentic Sichuan menu and it's been great. My favorite so far has been the Sliced Chicken with Mala Chili Sauce. I haven't had Chinese food this good since an authentic restaurant in my home town closed when the owners retired. I don't know what's with the negative reviews about service, but everyone has always been kind and attentive whether I ate there or ordered take out. It's inexpensive as well. Yes, the parking situation isn't great, but that's Squirrel Hill. Also, just a tip, but if you order something with peppers you may get A LOT of peppers. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The intestines are incredibly delicious 😋, and the service is also great. However, the floor is quite slippery, so elderly individuals need to be extra cautious while walking.

The dish there is authentic. We ordered two lunch special. Both are very good, but the 农家小炒肉 was the highlight! The fermented soybean really lightens up the dish and adds more layers to the flavor. Service was great too. Should've ordered some more to go!

One of the only places that serves okonomiyaki in the city, and they do it well. Huge fan of the hiroshimayaki which includes all the add-ons I usually like for $1 extra for a good overall portion size. The wasabi octopus appetizer is also really great. Tried some other items on the menu like the fried items which were ok, and a little small portion-wise

I just ordered take out here and everything tastes ok but this lo mein is SO BAD. I cannot explain how bland and watery it tastes. The beef is the same nasty yellow color as the noodles. It was a weak portion as well , that at 14 bucks :/ .
Ps also when I asked for packets of soy sauce and sweet and sour sauce was told that she did not have any. Who eats Rangoon without sweet and sour ?

We got the $90 Omakase and the restaurant accommodated us by attempting to pair sakes with each of the seven courses.
The Omakase included sushi and nigiri as well as a lot of izakaya style fried and grilled options. Everything was excellent. They had a decent selection of sakes and for an adhoc request they did extremely well with the sake pairings, which really elevated the experience.
The service was excellent and our waitress did a great job at explaining each dish and pairing.
The atmosphere was nice, but where we sat, near the actual bar was closer to Chinese restaurant than white table cloth. There were some nicer areas, but we didn't ask to be reseated either. The bathrooms were a little small.
The signage to find the place was not great. It's in the sort of mall in station square. There's a parking garage close by.

I used to love this place but it’s gone up in price a lot, most places have to be fair. The quality isn’t there anymore though. The last few times I’ve ordered the egg rolls haven’t been warm or crispy and didn’t even seem to have been fried; usually they’re
fresh and hot. Also was missing an item the last time I ordered; sweet and sauce for the sweet and sour chicken.
I do really love the garlic beef

Everything is so flavorful and pretty affordable especially for lunch! Staff is very nice and it has a very relaxed atmosphere to it. Might be my new favorite spot in Squirrel Hill

I had heard good things about Kyoto and wanted to try a Japanese restaurant, which serves more than sushi. Kyoto didn't disappoint. The ambiance and homely and the service is friendly. Most of the food was delicious, while some of it was ok. In appetizers th pork katsu was descent, while the takoyaki was very good. We got kids (4 & 7) the pork gyoza, Yakima soba noodles, and Yaki onigri. They loved it all. My wife ordered teppanyaki eel, which was the highlight of the dinner. I ordered the oknomiyaki, and it was delicious as well. Overall we had great time here. We will definitely recommend Kyoto, we will be back here soon.

Fantastic experience. The triple green vegetable with chicken is awesome. The spicy chicken with flaming pan is tasty and aesthetically amazing to see. We tried the egg drop, wonton, and hot and sour soups. They were good as well. And finally the chicken egg roll was piping hot and crispy. Will definitely be back! This is definitely up there with Chinatown Inn and Sesame Inn, if you're familiar with those two spots.

The food is really good good. We ordered the fish in bean paste and braised pork belly. My only complaint is the service. None of the servers can understand and speak proper English. They were unable to describe or recommend any of the dishes to us. I wish they kept at least one server who could understand a little English.

It is my second visit to the restaurant. The restaurant is well decorated the food taste good.
We order a okonomiyaki with squid. It is good with a bunch of cabbage and squid. The duck dish is a little bit sweet and taste good. The Gyoza is hot and the bottom is crispy.
Overall, it is a good Japanese restaurant and worth a try!

I had the best first impressions going in. There were multiple menus, which were all explained. I received a hot hand towel to wipe my hands with prior to eating as well, which I loved. Unfortunately, while the food was amazing and the service was fantastic, I did find a hair in my food. The server took care of that food item and everything else was really good but that was my experience.

This restaurant has 2 different menus. The american-chinese menu and the traditional menu. The fancier black traditional menu is what you want. ⚠️ be warned, much of the food is spicy, but my god is it good.
We had baby bok choy & black mushrooms, braised pork belly, and dry shredded beef. They were all absolutely delicious. 💯
I would say avoid the Boba tea. It was watery and the Boba seemed overlooked on the outside and dry in the center, sort of like canned Boba tea.

Long-standing Asian restaurant in Squirrel Hill that serves both Chinese and authentic Sichuan dishes.
The restaurant is casual and was preparing a lot of take out orders when I arrived for mine. This was my first time trying How Lee and I was intrigued knowing that they have been in business for quite some time.
I really enjoyed the food. It was fresh and tasty. How Lee was a nice change from the usual place I order from.
The eggroll was a little greasy. My favorite was the Shrimp with Broccoli. We also tried the Shrimp Fried Rice, Szechuan Chicken and Sweet Chili Shrimp. All were really good.

The front desk customer service was less to be desired here… But…
the food made up for it once I finally was waited on and got my order home to try it. I was very hungry after work.
I walked in and stood in what I thought was a line and noticed there were a bunch of delivery drivers there in line and some appearing to be waiting on orders.
The front desk worker (I think her name was Shirley) was busy however, she got off the phone several times and never asked me if she could help me. Never acknowledged me. Some people came in from outside after me and she gave them orders. I am thinking hello…
I moved to the counter directly in front of her. Stood there. I noticed she picked up the phone again - then got off, gave a few folks their orders and then busied herself with checking bags until I finally asked her if she can assist me please. I asked her if she saw me standing there. I let her know that I had been there waiting and was ignored / overlooked for about 10 minutes. She said she did not. She then said you could of said something too. I guess a random person standing there was not a customer? Ok, No apologies. It was what it was I guess. Breakdown in acknowledgement and communication I guess.
My order was $ 95.66 and because of the poor service experience I wanted to hate it because I was annoyed with her but, some of the food was decent but, a little pricy for the portion size.
Egg rolls were tasty almost $2.00 each
Steamed $7.95 and fried dumplings $ 7.95 with the sauce they provided was good
General Tso good but at $16.95 the order was super small like lunch size small
Vegetables Lo Mein good $ 9.95
Egg drop soup lacked flavor $ 2.00
Sesame beef meh was used to the meat not being as slimy and more fried - just my preference $ 16.95
Beef egg foo young was good. 13.95
I had wonton soup too but did not taste it yet.
I will try other places in the area before recommending them to see the comparison or to see if I have a better experience. Left with a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Money earned can always be spent anywhere.

Review is primarily for service and food for anyone who isn't me. We ordered a pretty large to-go order for Lunar New Year and I was surprised to see it waiting among boxes of other to-go orders at the appointed time. There were a ton of people inside.
Food was packaged decently. However, as noted on my warning for dietary restrictions, they simply did not care about our request for my nut allergy. Two dishes contained peanuts or walnuts. I sampled the pork rib just to try something "safe" and immediately triggered a light allergic reaction, likely due to cross contamination. I was not able to sample much else, but my friends noted that it was authentic Chinese cuisine and was pretty good.
Food: 4/5

I really love How Lee. It’s one of my favorite reataurants in Pittsburgh. I usually order one of the noodles(all delicious), home style tofu, and the sichuan style braised fish filets. The fish has bean sprouts, a generous amount of fish and a great sauce. I’m a big fan!

Love this place 💕
The food is crazy spicy 🌶 🌶 🌶 which I generally don’t like, but the flavor profiles are amazing. 🤯
BYOB bringing a nice beer is a good idea as you’ll need something to drink.
Must order from authentic menu!
Bar next door sells beer if their open.

I am a big fan of Lo Mein, chicken with garlic sauce. The people are very warm and attentive. This is an amazing food place for people who like authentic Chinese cuisine and oh, love the fortune cookie at the end of every meal. My safe bet for Chinese food in North squirrel hill.
They have nice plants too, I know their names. 😃

Not sure how this place has 4 n half star reviews. Went there with high expectations just to be disappointed.
Got spicy chicken that was ok
Lamb flaming pot was decent with fries in it that was weird part
Then order a special fried rice that was ok.
Our stomach’s wasnt happy after the experience maybe it was the oil that was used.
We saw cooks dragging big dirty trash can through the restaurant filled with ppl.
To end with the server gave us the copy circled around the tips sections which I felt wasnt needed.

I hardly give a restaurant 5 stars and this almost made if it was not for that spicy chicken which was fried and tossed with sichuan pepper. I was expecting it more to be smothered in sauce but it was ok.
The hero of the dishes was pork chili fried rice which was amazing and the best one I had till date.
Then there was Sichuan lamb hot pot which was amazing as well.
This place is a must try and looking forward to visit again.

Stop scrolling through the reviews and just try the restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing! The meat is well cooked and well seasoned, they don’t play around with the spices. The service can be slow understandably because the restaurant is always packed. If you’re gonna be super hungry, I would recommend heading to the restaurant 30-40 mins earlier given the wait time. The food is reasonably priced and worth every dime.

ANOTHER FOODIE’S GEM. A cozy restaurant with pleasant ambiance. TRULY AUTHENTIC TOP 3 (REGIONAL) CHINESE in Pittsburgh, looks very popular with Chinese emigres/visitors and Chinese Americans. It looks busy at both lunch and supper.
It’s truly a dining experience. It has a longish menu that one can enjoy over several visits, as I (and few colleagues) have done. None of that horrible greasy salty sugared Americanized Chinese-like food that is so common. Savor the true Szechuan cuisine: silken sauces, spices and different peppers, tender juicy meats, fresh vegetables, various rich textures.
Recommendations as of August 2022: Bokchoy & black mushrooms, Sichuan eggplant, Spicy Lamb in a pot (silk sauce with vegs & lotus roots), Kung Pao Chicken (crunchy with kick), King Mushrooms with basil (“meaty” vegetarian in a well balanced light sauce), Cumin Lamb (it literally wakes up the palate, uniquely dry sautéed that goes with any sauced veggie entree), my favorite so far: Crispy Pork Shoulder, amazingly tender meat with skin falling off the bone and a rich sauced mixed veggie) — And yes don’t forget the hot black, which freshens the palate between bites from different dishes.
Large servings, best shared between 2-3 people, OR take home for another meal.
Very highly recommended!😎

Loved it as a student years ago. Always ordered Chengdu Spicy Chicken, and dry pot with intestines. Spicy and delicious.
Update 2023:
They changed owner but the Chengdu Spicy Chicken's flavor is unchanged. Still tender inside and fried outside.

I visited based on the Yelp reviews. I was not very impressed. Parking is a feat especially around the 6:00 hour. I parked a few streets down in a residential area which was a short walk and not too bad. How Lee is small and located in a downtown “main” street area. The place has a few tables and some booths. My waitress was attentive and she promptly waited on me which was very nice. The food was plated beautifully but lacking in taste and seasoning. The portion was indeed generous and the dishes are family style. Overall not very impressed with the taste of the food despite the fact that it looked delicious. I ordered the braised tofu and the beef large noodle.

Wow! We were impressed by this place. Big plates of tasty food (if you like chinese cuisine of course), excellent service, authentic atmosphere and affordable prices - what else to ask from a good restaurant. Highly recommend!
