Highly recommend the bbq pork and chicken on rice. We went for dim sum and saw that we were unable to order that until 11:30 (it was 10:45am) but when I asked, they let us order it. Very delicious! Also the prices are slightly better than other restaurants and I believe some dishes are bigger than other places. I highly recommend going here if you love dim sum!

I'm a regular at this restaurant and they never cease to impress me with their speed of service. Saturday mornings can be a bit slow but over all their servers are quick and responsive.
Their food is delicious and I love that the taste is authentic and flavorful. Hands down recommend.
I did not end up going here tonight due to the place being booked out for an event, however I have to say after trying a competitor restaurant, it simply does not compare. Keep up the good work and perpetuating traditional Chinese culture and flavor in the city!

Worst Chinese restaurant ever first time ordered at this place. Also, the last time I order for dish
Salt And pepper squid, overcook and hard to bite
Beef with rice noodle overcook in hot water way too soft on the rice noodle
Special fried rice seem like they left that out for more than one day supposed to be regular rice, not broken rice that is used and taste like burnt cooking oil
Hot and sour soup taste OK

Ordered delivery for first time and the food came fast and hot except for the Lemon chicken soo gai. The chicken was rubbery and not very tasty I was so disappointed. Also the pork ribs with black bean sauce was a miss. The pork was also rubbery and tough to eat. The other 2 items I ordered were the house special chow mein and the shrimp fried rice which were pretty good. No complaints with those. Unfortunately I cannot eat 2 out of 4 dishes as the.meat was all tough and rubbery. I will not be ordering from them again. Sorry I tried. I will stick to my regular Chinese restaurants even if they are further away.

We order a take out from this place quite often. The food is really good and the portions are substantial. I really like the online order option directly from restaurant. Easy and flawless all the time.

I've been eating here for a while and it's always been on the lower end of quality but it's close and I am extremely busy during the day.
Last time I ordered though it was terrible. The ginger beef had no sauce, just breahed beef with a tiny drizzle of ginger at the bottom, the bbq pork chop suey had no bbq pork in it, none, literally just a handful of bean sprouts.
I feel like I got robbed honestly. After that ridiculous level of rip-off I would give zero stars if I could.

The lady there is rude, and even with an order of over $100, she says there’s a charge for hot sauce! Also, when they’re busy with take out orders (this place is basically a kitchen with a front desk, so no dine-in option, she rolls her eyes when you ask for hot sauce, chopsticks, or anything extra. Very rude. The guy who sometimes works the front desk is provides great customer service, on the contrary. Food is great, and good portion size for the price.

Best Chinese I have had in a while. Ginger beef. shake it before you open it because the flavor settles and the Cantonese Chow Mein was the best I have ever had... and the husband and wife make you feel very welcomed. We will order again

This place has never disappointed me . I always order delivery. The special fried rice is great. Ginger beef is always on point. And the general Tao chicken is spicy good and i ask them to make it extra spicy. 😋 it is my favorite . I recommend it.

This place is absolutely horrendous. Just garbage quality food, everything has a rotten taste to it. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, the only thing I would recommend is for them to close their doors before someone dies eating whatever the heck it is coming out of that kitchen. Absolutely disgusting, putrid, vile food. I am so rattled by this experience. I can't even believe someone would serve that. What a maniac that person must be.
Winton, do everyone a favor and close your doors.

We had our ‘late lunch’ here. Running errands the whole afternoon so we’re very happy to stop by this Chinese restaurant for a quick bite. We ordered the House Special Mixed Seafood Fried Rice and Hot Plate Cuttlefish Tentacles. Both dishes were so delicious and appetizing. We’re so hungry that we finished everything lol. The dishes came in sizeable portion, sizzling hot and fast. Will definitely come back to try their Lobster Noodles and other dishes!

I have been vomiting with bad diarrhea since Friday when I ordered beef and broccoli, chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice. I can not keep even water down and forget solid food. Not sure which dish did this but it's the only thing I ate all day. I'd say the beef if a had to guess it tasted off. Chicken also tasted old so may be that also. You have caused me a very serious case of food poisoning, ruined my weekend and plans with family... and I paid you for this? Worst experience of my lifetime (I'm 48 years old), never have I been this sick from anything, what are you guys doing back there. Health inspectors will be notified, would you like to hear from my lawyer as well? Never had this issue in the past, clearly things have gone downhill, NEVER AGAIN!!! Ridiculous, do better!

Authentic and delicious. The only time this restaurant makes me cry is that they are not open 24/7. I have been enjoying western Chinese food for my whole life. This place is one of the best I've ever had. And they are so friendly and professional. Excellent. I don't have any pictures of the food because I am a normal person who does not photograph their food. I've included some other photos that I took so you can believe I'm a real human. Or not. Up to you. Who even knows nowadays? At the end of the day, this place rules and I love their food so I'm writing this review.

Went here on a whim, and I can honestly say that they make some of the best food that I have had in many, many years. Everything that we ordered was perfect. Ginger Beef was amazing, not greasy, and not hard and crusty.
The servings were plenty and we had totake the rest home. Great for leftovers the next day. The prices are great, not outrageous.
Our server was very sweet and made sure that we were happy with everything.
I would highly recommend Bamboo Gardens.
When you first go through the doors, it doesn't seem like there would be a restaurant. The ONLY drawback is the fact that you have to go up a set of many stairs to get to the actual restaurant. I have a hard time with stairs and would be willing to go up the again for such wonderful food.
They also deliver 🙂🙂

We had a late stop as we were driving through Calgary and ordered a dinner for two plus salt and pepper calamari. The server pointed out that their servings were big and we might not need an extra dish but we opted to order the calamari anyway. Wow, she was right, the servings were huge but more importantly delicious! The server was part of the family run business provided excellent service. Best Chinese food we’ve had in forever!!!

1st time trying Toi Shan. Having a hard time finding real good Chinese food in Calgary outside of a few places in Chinatown. Disappointed yet again. Can't recommend any of the 7 dishes we ordered. Delivery was fast, ordered directly from restaurant, said an hour but was less than 1/2 hour, not sure if that was a good thing in our case. Delivery person was nice.

Terrible good & way to loud. If you appreciate traditional Chinese food DONT come here. Foods gross & atmosphere is so loud you won't be able to have a conversation with the person in front of you.

My friends and I came into Toi Shan and had the worst customer experience. We get that we all have bad days but this by far tops off the worst dining experience. After sitting down our waitress hastily ask what we wanted and kept telling us we were ordering too much food. To be honest, For 3 girls we only ordered 2 medium soups, 1 small shrimp dish that had 10 shrimps and fried calamari to share.
Once the food came out, a hot plate of sizzling shrimp was place in front of one of my friends. She had to jump off the chair because hot oil was being splashed on her while as waitress dashed off like nothing happened. Workers came by to help and our waitress decided to assist by putting the sizzling plate on the other side of the table and dismiss that the hot oil was splashing on my other friend.
At this point we were showered with snarky comments of “wow you girls eat a lot” and “you don’t need wine, you ordered too much food” I had to repeatedly ask for our bill while our waitress nonstop stood at our table and commented over and over how much food we ate.
To be clear we’re 3 petite girls that ate 1 of our medium soup that we shared 3 ways, 10 shrimps on the sizzling oil plate and half the calamari serving from our entree. The food was decently good but not enjoyable when you have a waitress passive aggressively commenting at you.

Found this place when looking for a quick bite to eat. The food came out in minutes and tasted good. Fair portion sizes.

Our family has been coming here for years and we are never disappointed. We normally do take out but the few times we’ve eaten in, it has been very pleasant. They are very nice and the food is amazing!

i order at doordash. I loved the egg fo young, very big portion. and the kids loved the chicken wings. i'll make sure to order again or visit the restaurant.

Portions are very generous, and pricing is great. I enjoyed the food, but I found the flavours to be very one-note. It all tasted good, but lacked complexity
The soft-shell crab had a lovely texture, and a crispy, oily batter. I found saltiness to be the overwhelming flavour, and it definitely pulled from my enjoyment of that texture and batter; I'm aware the dish has 'salty' in the name, but I didn't expect it to be the only flavour.
The ho-fan, I had no real criticisms for. The flavour, again, was pretty standard, but for the pricing and the amount they give you, it's definitely better value than a lot of places would provide.
Both dishes tast good, but based on other reviews, I just found it didn't live up to what other reviews say. I can definitely see myself eating here again, both for the prices, and for the variety of dishes offered. I'll likely try their Peking duck, or their dim sum offerings next time.

Been going here since I was 14 years old. Same owners. Food has always been great. Easy to order online and pick up.
Down side….nothing has been updated as far as carpet, bathrooms and decor since I was 14. Bussiness looks worn, but food is perfect.

The man I spoke to on the phone while placing my order was such a sweetheart! The food, ok so everyone knows that you ALWAYS cook fish separately from any other food, why? Because all the other food will taste like fish!!!! That is what happened with all FOUR combos plus 2 extra side dishes we ordered last night... ALL the. Meat tasted just like fish! I really hope that the owners or manager reads this because this could be serious. It's cross contamination and someone could get really sick....

This is a reliable Chinese food restaurant that serves a good assortment of good quality menu items in its lunch buffet. Fridays see squid in the offerings. Service is always attentive and very good. I have not been to this establishment in the evening. I have been a return customer for a couple of years now.

Worst Chinese food we have ever eaten. Threw out the ginger beef, it had a weird taste and all the other dishes were barely edible.. so disappointed.

General Tso's was just dry fried chicken bits with chili flakes. Laughable portion for the price. Only 2 stars bc UberEats refunded me so I didn't pay a cent for it.

ordered the chicken general tao for pickup through their online site. website said the order would be ready in 22 minutes. I arrived to pick it up in 30minutes and it wasn't ready. There was a few people there waiting for their food as well. Overall wait time was about 45minutes so DOUBLE THE WAIT TIME. The food was edible but not so tasty to me.

This was one of the worst Chinese food take out I have ever eaten. Do NOT order the sweet and sour pork or the salt and pepper chicken. Payed way too much.
$85 for 4 dishes.
Completely disappointed and Won't be ordering from here again.
The only thing I can say that was good was the delivery service, Door Dash and how fast it arrived on my doorstep.

I haven't been here in a very long time, but I was amazed by the quality and value of the dishes. Every dish was perfect. Get the assorted meat appetizer platter it's so good and the pork belly baos so succulent and tender in a fluffy bun. The wok Hei on the stir fried noodles so aromatic. Highly recommend this place 10/10

I am happy to write a positive review for Bamboo Gardens, a classic neighborhood Chinese food restaurant located just outside Calgary's downtown core at 1603 18 St NE. Although I haven't been to this restaurant for years due to a decline in quality, I recently gave it another chance and was pleasantly surprised by the food's consistency, flavor, and quality.
One thing that struck me when I walked in was how little the decor and furniture had changed since I was a child in the 90s. I might have even recognized some of the fish in the tank! However, I soon realized that the familiar surroundings only added to the charm and nostalgia of the experience.
But what matters most is the food, and Bamboo Gardens did not disappoint. Every dish was hot, fresh, and full of flavor, reminding me of why I loved this restaurant in the first place.
Overall, I was impressed with Bamboo Gardens and am happy to have rediscovered this gem. Don't let the old-school decor fool you; the food is fantastic, and I look forward to ordering from them again soon. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Chinese cuisine in Calgary.

I have always wanted to try this Chinese restaurant after my local friends told me about it. Finally get the chance to try their dinner menu twice during my stay in Calgary. They have a few signature dishes that are must try items (including: The soy sauce chicken, crispy chicken, sweet & sour pork, stir fried beef sirloin cubes and scallops with fried taro nest, pea sprouts with beancurd in broth, deep fried sweet sesame balls etc…)
The restaurant was very spacious and clean. All our food came quickly and tasted so good. The service was quite good too. It was consistent both visits. This place was very suitable for group dinner and family gathering. They have lots of large tables there. You can do walk in or make a reservation in advance.
The only downside is the parking at street level nearby and difficult to access the restaurant for elderly with mobility problem walking down over 20 stairs. This is because they are located in the basement of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Calgary Chinatown. They only have an elevator to the restaurant from the Cultural Centre. If you go there for dinner, the Cultural Centre closes at 5:00pm and then the elevator to the restaurant will no longer be available. It is quite inconvenient for elderly people with disabilities. However, the restaurant offered an alternative solution to this matter. You can send someone to the restaurant to pick up a parking card from their front counter when you arrived and then your driver can park the car with the elderly people at their underground parking and walk to the restaurant from the underground parking indoor passage.

We ordered the “Special Combination Dinner”. For only $15.95 we had so much food we couldn’t finish it all. It was delicious!
The service was fast and the staff wonderfully friendly. The outside might not look like much but it’s worth stopping in!

Very tasty Chinese food at a reasonable price! Having dined here many times, I can say their food is consistently well done. Large portions, good flavors, and generally not too oily. The service has always been quick and the space is quite large with tables well spaced out.
Their dim sum is also worth going to!

I wanted to give myself a chance to calm down and think overnight before I write such a negative review. I work in the restaurant industry and I know that really negative reviews can actually really impact an establishment. I hate writing poor reviews, but I really feel this one is warranted. There is no email listed on the website that I can see, so I hope the owners and management see the reviews and try to rectify the issues.
I had several recommendations to try Toi Shan, despite the higher price. My mom lives out of town and barely gets Chinese food, and we were craving some delicious almond chicken soo gai, beef and vegetables, and chicken chop suey. We also ordered egg rolls and were gifted two spring rolls for ordering over $40. Our total came to $64 and change, with free delivery. SWEET! I tipped the driver , and was so stoked to try what was supposed to be the BEST around. It had better be for $73!!!!
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Almost nothing was really edible. The free spring rolls were apparently decent, my daughter would only eat them and I never got a chance to try. Here's a rundown:
Almond Chicken($16.95)- Way too dark, looked like either super old oil was used, or GROSSLY overcooked. The chicken inside was soooo dry and overcooked. We are talking almost chicken jerky here. I pulled some chicken out and ate that because we were all starving, but I would have sent it back in a restaurant, just like everything else we ordered. NOT GOOD!
Beef and mixed Veg($15.50 )- RUBBERY, and slimy, greasy beef, greasy vegetables, in a POOL of water and grease. I picked a few vegetables out and ate them, but I had to literally spit the beef out. No flavour at all. Some vegetables were almost raw, some were ok. But still oily and no taste apart from that. YUCK!
Chicken chop suey($15.50)- Same thing as the beef- rubbery, slimy, oily, and in a pool of liquid with next to no seasoning. Chicken was completely inedible. The description on the menu also describes " Egg foo yung".........GROSS!
Egg rolls ($5.75 for 2) -Really dark, again looked very overcooked or really old oil was used. The outside was NOT crispy like an egg roll should be. IT was thick chewy, and doughy. The inside was ok.....but I didn't eat much because there was so much grease coming out and it was super off-putting. ANOTHER MISS!!!!! EWE!
Wonton Soup( $4.50)- The wonton soup was edible. Not great at all, but edible. I would say that there were a lot of wontons, and the portion size was pretty decent for $4.50. The broth was bland, but after I added a ton of Soy and pepper, it was better and I was able to eat the whole soup.
All in all,I would rate the whole meal around 1/10. My mom was SO UPSET. I am hoping maybe I can rinse some of the oil off of the vegetables and sautee them myself and add some sauces and spices and at least not have to throw everything out. My poor mom splurged a lot of $$ on a treat for all of us and she was so disappointed and upset. We all were.
As I mentioned, I hate writing poor reviews, but this was just absolutely unacceptable. Seeing other reviews, I don't see a lot of owner/management interaction on here, so I am not really expecting much. It would be great if they would be more cognisant of what they are sending out. Maybe it was an off- night with new chefs, maybe the order sat a while, maybe they didn't have time to change the oil and didn't realize how GROSSLY overcooked the chicken was. MAYBE a lot of things. But this was an almost ENTIRE MEAL ( besides the free spring rolls and the $4.50 Wonton soup ) that will likely just end up in the garbage.
So disappointed. It's the worst meal I think any of us has had in a VERY long time, and possibly EVER for my daughter.

We ordered take-out on a Sunday evening. We had 2 wonton soups, the fried shrimp and 2 main dishes (spicy shrimp and orange chicken). There was a fair amount of meat in the dishes. The orange chicken is rather ordinary, I dont recommend it.

Went here for Chinese Lunary dinner with my partner and we were surprised that we are the only dine-in customer around 5:30pm. People started to arrive around 7pm, but they have a lot of tables so I don’t think they ever get full (post-pandemic). We ordered 4 dishes; fried duck, fried noodles with seafood, fried shrimp with salted egg and yang chow fried rice. All plates had big servings! (good for 3-5 people/dish) obviously we didn’t finish everything, but we got a lot of take-out food good for 2 days! Service was a bit slow cause there were a lot of Skip the dish deliveries that they were helping. Overall, I would come back again here soon and treat my whole family! We only spent $60 for everything! Delicious food, great value!

This is a great little neighbourhood gem! Tiny little restaurant in a strip mall, with pick up/take out/delivery only, but don't judge a book by its cover... I was so impressed by how consistently good all the dishes were..some of the best Chinese I've had in Calgary!
I ordered for pickup, and it was ready in 15 minutes. It was all super fresh, hot and tasty, with generous portions. The lemon chicken, salt and pepper squid and ginger beef were all so crispy and crunchy. Nice tender veggies and beef in the beef and broccoli, and both the chow mein and chicken fried rice were very flavourful.
Definitely recommend!

I ordered for dry ribs. But what I got weren't ribs. they were neckbones. I can tell the difference between ribs and neckbones. And the chicken fried rice smells like burnt grease off the barbecue grill. So disappointed. Even the kids didnt eat the rice, they usually love to eat fried rice.

Ugh it’s so good! I’m super picky but, I was actually really impressed. The portions are great and it was well worth the money. I just tried it for the first time tonight and ordered it through skip. I got the C3. 17+ 17. (It came with a delicious spring roll) It would have been 5 stars but, they gave me chow mein as a side instead of sweet and sour chicken balls like I ordered. Still not bothered by it because the food was SO good. Will definitely order again.
Just would like to add that the take out chop sticks are very brittle so you might want to use your own.
