Very impressive store with three floors packed with all the equipment you could possibly need. Kind gentleman helped me fit my Osprey back-pack (which was a good price) and gave me a complimentary bandana . Thank you 😁
Used stuff mostly in good conditions
I visited this Alpen location for the first time yesterday and wanted to share my experiences. The product selection is big but a few items I wanted weren't available but other items including the DOD tent poles were. When I went to the cashier she suggested I become a member and save 20%. Although it was difficult to process because I'm not Japanese, she took time to get me enrolled and save 20%. By then it was 7pm and I needed to go to Kashiwa station to catch a train into Tokyo, but there are no taxis there. So, the cashier advised the Coleman sales guy to take me with him on the bus route that he takes to go home, so he did! And he gave specific details to me as to how to get to the station, which was a few after his. When it was time to get off the bus, he thanked me and asked me to visit him again soon at this Alpen location and even greeted me from outside the bus, but before that he advised the bus driver to make sure I would get off at the right bus stop. I want to thank all three people at the store who helped me and made me feel so appreciative of their help. The third person was a friendly guy who helped me to check availability of claymore accessories and suggested the exact type of bag I was looking for to carry tent poles for my tent(Kamaboko Tent 3 L). I will return to this store because the staff are extremely helpful and the product range and layout are extremely good. Thank you very much😀

The interior is nice for browsing but the range of goods and sample tents is small compared to the size of the store.
Good place to try and purchase outdoor goods. The store is huge and had a variety of brand equipment.
Offered free entry parking.
Would recommend.
Like most outdoor shops in Japan: they have all the fancy gear in the world except for what you actually need. Want ski crampons? Yeah they have, except the size you need. Want a petzl gully? Nope they have only the summit or stuff you have even never heard of. Want specialized staff advice? Nah they don't know anything, they'll just run around and fetch the brand's promotional magazine. I understand this is not a specialized mountaineering shop, but still come on. With that much floor space available they could do so much better. Oh and did I mention the insanely high prices?

If you need dedicated mountain gear, go to Rapie's in Hakuba instead. It's far, but they have what you need and know what they're talking about.

They have a lot of things but prices are not anywhere near competible so you end up buying online when you want to just take it home. Of course you pay more at a store, but half the price...
Probably the biggest outdoor oriented place you'll find in the area and it has a wide variety of goods. There are three levels, each with their own focuses. The first floor is mainly camp orientated, second floor is mainly apparel and some sporting good like bicycles and, the third floor is mainly focused on mountain sports like climbing, snowboarding etc.
The place holds a wide range of products but might be limited to a certain amount of goods in each area because it hosts so many categories.
Great overall place to find what you want and maybe even a new hobby.
Best camping shop in Japan? Maybe in the whole Asia? I cannot see anything like this even in Europe. You can book to see a specific tent to be assembled under your eyes and packed away before deciding if that is for you. Plenty of space to keep social distance.
Good second hand store with some hidden treasures if you now what to look for...
Great for getting yourself set up for the outdoors
