Visited to look at evergreen selection for upcoming project. Multiple sizes available for each of the 2 evergreen varieties that I was after. The first extremely helpful staff member that I spoke with was working in the tents, and offered to stop her work to show me additional evergreen options to consider. The second staff member was super pleasant, and working on prepping bushes and trees for the cold weather, he alerted me on what he was doing, and made sure that he and I did not get too close at times, so I would not get any spray drift. The third staff member at the checkout was very kind and made sure I was aware of a sale on the pansies that I was buying. I bought a few more (planted all as soon as I got home). These were the best looking pansies that I had seen at any garden center in recent weeks, and now my planters will look good into the spring.
Colesville is where I have gotten most all of my shrubs in recent years. They are easily my first and best choice in Hanover.
Outstanding selection of healthy plants. But lets be clear. This is a working nursery/farm. NOT an orange/blue box store or retail nursery. It is geared to landscape professionals but also sells retail. Do not expect a typical retail interface. IF you need lots of hand holding, this is not the place for you. If you love plants and love to pick out very specific varieties, Colesville nursery is for you. And they have excellent prices, too!

I spoke with three different employees and all three were friendly and helpful. Great people work here.

When you arrive you MUST pickup a clipboard that includes an order sheet and a map of the nursery. This nursery covers many acres. You drive around to the plant location where your plants you want are located. You select your plant, write down the plant information on your clipboard, and put the plant in your vehicle. A car will work, but a pickup truck, van or SUV would be better. Depends on how large and how many plants you intend to buy. Drive back to the office/store and walk in with your clipboard and order sheet. Leave your plants in the vehicle.

Some tips.
1. Download the list of available plants from their website to your cell phone. It will tell you the name, size, location and price of the plants. The plant location is CRITICAL to finding the plants you want. Trust me, you don't want to walk around through all the green houses and other locations looking for your plants. KNOW THE PLANT LOCATION.
2. Do your homework. Arrive with a list of the plants you want to purchase. Select backups in case they have sold out of your first choice. Know what size you want/need. Plants are often located in different areas based on plant size.
3. Be prepared to get dirty/dusty. Be prepared to load your own plants. But they will try to find someone to assist if you need it. Remember, this is a working nursery/farm; not a retail store. Consider bringing small trash bags or tubs (I used small cement mixing tubs) to contain dirt and water from the containers.
4. Have fun hunting for your plants! Signage and directions are not the best. I drove around quite a bit trying to find the correct location for one of my plants.

Incredible selection of healthy annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. Considering the tens of thousands of plants, I was impressed that almost every plant was health and in good shape. Plants are well taken care of. I was told most of their plants are grown there or on their farm. Some are brought in from other growers, but most are grown at this family run nursery.

And they have a great selection of large ceramic planters in all shapes and sizes. A little pricey but probably cheaper than most places. I think I am going back for a couple after discussing with the boss. ;-) Fertilizer and soil amendment selection was very good and reasonably priced.

I planted some berry covered winterberry shrubs and read I needed a male for them to produce again. Trees of Fredericksburg suggested Colesville. I’m new to the area but took the jaunt down to pick me up a shrub. The nursery is something that I have never experienced before. I parked between the two buildings (garden shop & main building I assumed.). I took a walk to see what they had on display. After about 1/2 way around the tents a lady asked how I was doing. She walked me over to where she thought the shrub would be. Not there, she got on her walkie-talkie and got the location…on the other side of the property. I drove toward the area and got a man in a golf cart who slowed down and looked at me suspiciously. I confirmed the location and glad I did. He was a huge help, corrected me and sent me on my way.
What a sight to see. The biggest working nursery I have ever seen. Trucks, flat beds, UTV, driving all around picking up plants.
At this point I feel over my head coming to pick up a plant.
I find my shrubs and there are ribbons on some. I wasn’t for sure if that was an I.d. to reserve or who to credit for the plant. I grab a tall healthy plant and take it back to the main building.
As I unload a nice fella came over to tell me just to leave it. Then I ask what the ribbon meant. Of course it’s a tag for a reservation. I offer to take it back and get another. He kindly offered to go look for the paperwork on it. No paperwork for this shrub providentially and I can purchase it!!!
The trip was quite intimidating for someone like me. I appreciated all the friendly faces driving around and all the help I received from the kind men and women.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to call next time about the blue dwarf irises I want and see how to reserve and pick them up. But thank you everyone for your help and kindness today.

Great selection of natives and other unique and interesting plants, probably the biggest in the area that I've found so far. The lady who checked us out was also incredibly kind and made the entire shopping experience a pleasure. Will definitely be back here. Thank you!
Colesville has excellent customer service and knowledgeable folks working there. The plant material is healthy, and you can see that they take good care of them.
What a great experience! The staff was very helpful and patient. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciated their professionalism and energetic demeanor. I would highly recommend them for your nursery and planting needs.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Be sure to check in and get a clipboard and instructions! Large variety of plants and trees. Check online to confirm your selection is in stock, or you can also pre-order. Some pottery and statues are also available. Nice clean restrooms available. I purchased some mint!

I’m not one to write reviews, but the experience I’ve had with specificity Hanover Veg farms in office customer services, is horrible. I ordered 5 yards of their “screened” top soil mixed with hummus and compost, and what I received was FAR from that. It is almost all chunks of dense dense clay, and sand, at best its fill dirt. I called trying to explain to Megan that I am a seasoned gardener. She tells me it’s not potting soil it’s top soil, like I have no idea what I’ve ordered and don’t know what I’m doing.
I’ve ordered top soil from Cross Creek, and other local company’s and have always gotten beautiful topsoil, ready to amend with my own compost and put in my beds.

I did a trial run with this topsoil because I was extremely skeptical just by looking at it, and lo and behold, it turns into a hard rock when you add compost and water. And the 3-5 inch chunks of clay are almost impossible to break up.

Clay and sand makes concrete…. This is not top soil, the customer service I received was so terrible, condescending, and rude.

I’m so disappointed, and now I’m just out 250$, and have a giant pile of fill dirt I can’t do anything with.
Be prepared to wait. Guy at the counter said it may be 10 minutes for someone to load an order of crushrrun. I said fine. After 20 minutes I see a guy loads a truck full of mulch then gets out of the backhoe and drives away. Another 10 minutes a guy walks past me and says he’s got to get manure from the back pasture before he carload my stuff (which would take less than 3 minutes) That was 10 minutes ago. I wish I packed a lunch. I think I could have saved time using my own shovel. 2 people were in the store. Price was okay, but now I think the delivery fee would have been worth it to get my hour back. Prettiest day of the year so far and I’m sitting in the parking lot. Update: it ended up being just under an hour from start to finish. They had a lot of rain and another guy got stuck way out in the back field. This is probably an unusual occurrence and normal service is probably better.
Bueno como siempre
I’ve loved going to Hanover Plant Farm since moving to Ashland. I’ve bought over a dozen trees so far and they’re thriving. Not only have I enjoyed the plant/tree selection, but I’ve learned so much from Mike who runs it. I have a million and one questions and he’s always patient and eager to help. Can’t recommend this place enough!
If you want to buy local and talk plants with the owner, then this is a good spot. I have been gardening for decades and these plants were all healthy. I stopped by and found what I was looking for and had a good talk with Mike about plants.
This is an exciting venue. Recently, we went there to pick pumpkins with the family, hang out with friends, shop and enjoy live entertainment. Over the years, we have attended many musical and festival events here. Great place to be!
Every time we come here, it's a great experience! Today we came for the goblins, gourds, and ghouls festival. We were a little disappointed the wine tasting fell through at the last minute but it was still a fun day overall. Will continue coming back year after year!
So many great choices!! Shrubs, trees, mums, pansies, fall vegetable starts! They will help with your design plans and install and make special orders. Great staff!
Quaint country venue surrounded by cornfields and horse farms. The staff is friendly and they hold events frequently. There is also a store and nursery (not pictured) that has a lot of offerings. Will be returning.

We love stopping by the Market when we drive by here. Today I picked up some really sweet white peaches, zucchini, squash and cantaloupe. Everything is so fresh and inexpensive. I also bought a Tomato Pie, cannot wait to try it. Their freezer is filled with butter beans and frozen green beans. They have all kind of salsas, jam, pickles, and preserved vegetables. Don’t forget the most popular Hanover Tomatoes.
Good people to work with, healthy plants, good selection and fair prices.
We love this place...very friendly staff and they have a great variety of both veggies and flowers for planting.
Buyer beware…. If you buy a plant that dies they will blame you and not replace it. That’s no way to serve your customers as a small business. We bought 3 plants, planted them in a row in front of the house. Two died, one lived planted in the same location. We were blamed and although I asked nicely there’s a no replacement policy. Good luck!
Very nicely ran business. Big selection. Plants look hearty and prices are good.
Great staff, prices and huge selection of plants!
Beautiful venue and great events - smoothly run, great customer service. Market has the best local veggies, fruits, meats and artisan items. Highly recommend!
Not bad selection of basic plants and supplies. Don't expect any advice or assistance, but if you need some annuals or chemicals or pots, they have them. Clearance plants are a plus.
We got tickets online the night before for the Pumpkin 🎃 Festival. Unfortunately it was a rainy day, but we decided to venture out anyways. Very glad we did. Even though it was wet and a little muddy, lines were short and the place wasn't packed. We've been at this before where we had to wait almost 20mins to get on the Hayride to go pick your pumpkins. Today we had no wait and the whole ride to ourselves. Lots of little activities to do, especially for the kids. They had live 🎶, lots of food trucks and vendors. Few goats and chickens were out to feed. They have corn cannons and a hide and seek tent set up. We had a good muddy walk through the corn maze. Wife got a 🍷 slushy and a beer. The Apple Cider and Apple Cider doughnuts were amazing. Finished the day after picking our pumpkins with fried oreos and a funnel cake. Great family fun, even on a wet and dreary day!
drooping plants but amazing nice employees
Products are a little lacking, but it's still out of season. Everything should be full in a couple of weeks, after season comes in. Salesperson was very helpful.
Very limited selection.
The customer service is terrible in the garden department, I bought the Suv and trailer to get the 40 bags of dirt I need to build the garden beds my aging father wants to play in. I was told to pull up at the drive through location, when I got there the gates were locked. Finally after calling the store someone came out, with no keys to unlock the gate and asked if I could backup in a very narrow space, I tried yet didn't want to run into cars stopped. After 10 more minutes they finally brought my dirt out on a hand cart. Shortly after they finally opened the gate, a little too late.
