We showed up early for our reservation and only had to wait several minutes to be seated. Very organic friendly interaction, not forced or patronizing. The whole meal was seamless, from drinks to the check. The Skagit Valley Chicken Schnitzel was unexpected with yuzu vinaigrette, and it totally works. The Bucatini Amatriciana was excellent, with a kick that lingered, so be prepared. I have to say bucatini pasta is no my favorite. Chewy and a perfect medium to hold the sauce. Cheesy Asian pear with in house made focaccia was perfect. The menu seems to change so no worry about running out of options. We will return. And you should, too, after the first time.
On a breezy, sometimes sunny, day, we walked in and felt the goodness here. Friendly staff, took us right outside to enjoy springtime al fresco dining. Seared tuna taco for me, with a great half cob of elote. So flavorful. Big burger for Julie, nice and pink, tasty fries and excellent bacon. A perfect lunch, then off to the airport.
A chilly night in Berlin(it is December), we found ourselves gazing into the welcoming warm interior of Brasserie Am Gendarmenmarkt, and we were actually seated immediately. As much as English is spoken in Berlin, it is still a moment when a server, or store person has that, ”switch language”, moment. I can make myself understood, with long pauses as my brain translates, and the situation works out. There is nothing quite as enjoyable as shedding layers of winter coats and scarves and feeling the warmth coming from the room, along with the amazing smells of well prepared food. And we were taken with both. No hurry, the wild mushroom soup was warming and so tasty, each spoonful kept the flavors of the previous taste. The steak frites was perfection in medium rare, with herbed butter melting slowly down the sides. The frites were thick but light with just enough crunch.
The staff is professional and smiling and wished us a good evening as we left.
If you find yourself around the Gendarmenmarkt, find yourself here. It is so worth it
