I was there because I saw good reviews and a friend has recommended before I arrive in Kyoto. I honestly was looking forward to the experience.

I ordered a latte, and to be honest, I think they can do better. It tastes like water. I think it was weak, and it was lacking of fragrance. I know Japan's coffee is generally on the weaker side (with more added water) but I think even the milk wasn't fresh. It was really disappointing. I have a friend that ordered oat milk latte, I tried hers because she told me it was bad and it was truly terrible.

Service wise, I think it is no longer surprising that the service here is not something to be rave for seeing the poor service reviews. I am a service staff and I know there are good days and bad days, but I just felt that even during your bad days, you can smile and take the initiative to take orders but the day when I was there, it feels like all the staff were not treated well that they are forced to work. It is rather disappointing especially you are in Japan, although I know Kyoto's culture can be different too. Nevertheless, I am someone that if the service is good and the food is bad on the first visit, I would still go back to give other options a chance. However, in this instance, I will never go back there. I really did not feel welcome and like I owe them a living.

Ambience wise, it is really nice. I like the setup and I think the atmosphere and the decoration are sleek and simple. The white/ wood combination is beautiful and it is attractive as a whole. Especially, it was situated at a quiet location so I reckon it will be a nice and quiet place to hang out.
I am rating the cafe, Soul Brew. Was looking for a quiet and conducive place to do my work for the day (0800-1700) and found this place online saying that it has food & beverages options and also electrical plug for me to charge my laptop & mobile phone. You don't get such set-ups in Singapore much and I really enjoyed my time there and having my coffee and meals too.

We were greeted by a very friendly staff, Peta and she was really polite and nice. She took initiative to introduce how everything works around the cafe, inform us on what they offer on their menu and the F&B options and promotions they are running currently so that we are aware of the cost-saving options. Love her smile and enthusiasm.

I did not stay at the hotel but was glad to have chanced upon this cafe within Holiday Inn and even though I felt that the area of the cafe could have expanded a little more, I was surprised that actually throughout the day the crowd was quite smooth and people comes and goes briefly. I like that there are healthy spaces in between tables and it doesn't feel like I have someone breathing down my neck when the table next to me is taken. The couch is really comfortable and cosy. Even though the hotel is quite busy, I think generally the noise level is quite controlled.

There is a toilet conveniently down the corridor which you will noticed it from the cafe. Love that their staff (including a male manager who I did not get his name) are all very approachable, friendly and polite. Keep up the good work and will gladly be back there again!
