Sushi Well
2024 May 08
Sushi Well uses pink rice to make their sushi! The pink color comes from a premium quality pink sushi vinegar which is made from organic fruits and vegetables. This pink vinegar is said to be highly nutritious and the sushi they make with it is super delicious as well!

I was going to a picnic gathering, and I knew the others would be bringing plenty of other food items so I just ordered three items from here to bring to the picnic:

Mango Avo Roll
Dragon Roll
Salmon Oshi

All three of these rolls were superb! Flavors were on point, ingredients were fresh and we were all very much impressed with the seared flavor of the Salmon Oshi.

This place is my new favorite for sushi. I will happily come here again and again and again!

Bufala Edgemont
2023 Oct 27
With two locations and a third one looming on the horizon, Bufala Edgemont serves delicious Napolitana pizza and Italian food. Featured here:

Olives
Truffle Fries
Tuscan Bean Dip
Brussel Sprouts
Rigatoni
Margherita Pizza
Calabria Pizza
Spaghetti & Burrata

Didn't taste much truffle in the Truffle Fries and it smelled a bit too strongly of pecorino romano for some of us. My husband isn't too fond of cheese in general whereas myself and our daughter both love cheese. However, even she and I found the cheese to be a bit of a turnoff this time.

The pizza on the other hand could have done with a bit more cheese on it. We love ooey, gooey, stretchy cheese but there was no "cheese pull" to be had with these pizzas.

Aside from the cheese being too much or too little, we loved the food here. My husband said his Calabria Pizza was very tasty. My daughter and I enjoyed the flavor of the Margherita Pizza, and we all loved that the pizzas had a nice, crispy crust.

Earlier this year we had dined nearby at another pizza & pasta restaurant where the pizza crust had been quite disappointing so we were over the moon when we discovered how crispy the pizza crust was at Bufala.

There were these three bottles on the table. Each one contained a different flavor of oil which the server told us was meant to be eaten with the pizza. The green oil was a Rosemary Herb flavored oil, and this same oil had been on top of our Tuscan Bean Dip. We loved this oil! It tasted awesome on the Tuscan Bean Dip and wonderful with the pizza as well.

Spaghetti and Burrata was by far, my favourite dish of the evening. It's described as having kale pesto, Italian burrata and toasted pumpkin seeds on it; I was very sure that I could also taste lemon in it although lemon wasn't mentioned on the menu.

This place is my new favourite for pizza & pasta on the North Shore, and I very much hope to dine here again sometime!

Kaneko Hannosuke serves Japanese style Tempura rice bowls known as Tendon in the TABLES food court at the Amazing Brentwood. I ordered the Oyster Tendon for lunch. The tempura was lightly battered and not very greasy. Tempura is excellent here.

While the food here was superb, I was a bit disappointed with the way they served the rice. Everything came in a large bowl which upon first glance gives the appearance of having a lot of rice in it. However, it turned out that there was a shallow plastic tray sitting on top of the bowl, and the food was placed inside this shallow tray. This meant that there was actually a lot of empty, wasted space in the bowl and really not as much rice in the dish as it first seemed. I don't have a very large appetite so the rice was still a sufficient amount for me. In principal though, it does seem misleading as well as wasteful to be using those big bowls, when the food isn't even sitting in those bowls; rather the food is sitting in smaller plastic trays on top of the bowls. It seems to me that they could do a bit of rethinking about how they package and serve their food to people.

I love sushi but I was really in the mood for something lighter, so when we went to Sushi Town with my family I decided to order an Avocado Salad.

I only managed to photograph mine and our daughter's food this time. Featured here:

Veggie Gyoza
Dynamite Roll
Avocado Salad

Even though our daughter is a meat eater, when it comes to gyoza she prefers to order Veggie gyoza. The ones at Sushi Town seem to be her favourite out of all the restaurants we've been to. Dynamite Roll is a pretty standard item, and they do it decently at this restaurant.

At any sushi restaurant, the sushi is obviously the main attraction; however, I have found that when it comes to salad, sushi restaurants make them better than a lot of other places. (In my humble opinion) I think it's mostly about the dressing. There's something about Japanese style salad dressings that just works better for my taste buds than Western style dressings. This Avocado salad was nothing to scoff at. It was refreshing, tasty, and light yet at the same time still filling. In the past, when I wanted to eat light at a Japanese restaurant, I would just order sashimi and anything else that didn't have rice in it. With salads as tasty as this Avocado salad was though, I can eat lighter and healthier without compromising on flavour!

We got to try Kamayan Feast (aka. Boodle Fight) at Kulinarya in Coquitlam. No plates or silverware. Just food, food, and more food piled upon some leaves. You use your hands to eat!

Feast is an appropriate term to describe our meal that night. On our table we had: Crispy Pata, Kaldereta, Adobo Chicken, Ginataang Kalabasa, Bangus Fried, Steamed Rice, Lumpiang Shanghai. Fried Sweet Potato, and Fried Plantain. The table was a mess but the leaves which were used to hold all the food on the table actually made cleanup very easy and quick. Our server picked up the leaves with all the food in it, and with seemingly very little effort, carried it away. The leaves basically acted as a tablecloth, so it was like lifting a tablecloth with all the food in it, and carrying it away. We were impressed by how quickly and easily the table was cleaned.

The feast wasn't over though because what would any feast be without dessert? Our feast included Halo Halo, so even though we were incredibly full already, we had to make room for dessert and stuff ourselves even more!

I can now check Boodle Fight off my list. Once was enough for me. It was an interesting experience but I really do prefer eating with utensils!

Some of the food was a bit of a hit and miss but overall the food was good. Bangus Fried (fried fish) was incredible! I would go back for that one dish alone, and could eat several orders of it all by myself. It was sooooooooo good!
