Milestones
2024 Aug 16
I visited Milestones for an evening social event with my colleagues and had a good time overall.
The restaurant is a free-standing building next to Scarborough Town Centre, with plenty of parking spots, which I appreciated. Inside, it was spacious with ample seating. Here's what I ordered:
1989 Burger: The burger was just alright. It came with a choice of fries or a Caesar salad, and I got the salad. The patty was thick but ultimately disappointing. It was cooked well-done and had some juice, but not enough to compensate for its hard texture and lack of standout flavour. The other toppings, like bacon, cheese, and the soft sesame bun, were fine. The healthy amount of veggies and sauce, combined with the patty’s fat, made the burger messy and difficult to eat. Definitely not first-date food. The Caesar salad, on the other hand, had a good amount of cheese and dressing, though the veggies could have been a bit fresher.
Thanks to happy hour, I got the burger at a discount, which made the meal very affordable.
The overall ambiance was great. The server gave us space to chat and socialize, checking in occasionally to ensure everything was good. A 20% automatic gratuity was included in the final bill due to our large group, which was fine. The washroom was very clean.
Overall, I had a good experience. While the burger patty didn’t impress, the ambiance and value made up for it. I wouldn’t mind revisiting if I’m in the area.
Andrews NYC Diner
2024 Apr 22
I recently visited Andrews NYC Diner with my group for breakfast. I noted that they advertised chili on the menu outside. However, I was slightly disappointed to find that it wasn't available on the main menu and was not offered in the morning either.
House-baked Muffin: I chose the pistachio flavour. To my surprise, the muffin was quite big and filling. Although it was primarily walnut, which makes sense given the high cost of pistachios, the muffin's vibrant green interior was striking. It came with jam and butter, but it was tasty enough on its own that I didn't need either.
The service was generally attentive, though we experienced a slight hiccup initially while trying to order the chili. Also, I felt there weren't enough restrooms for its size. Thankfully, a staff member informed me about an additional restroom downstairs, which was a useful tip.
Overall, despite a few minor issues, my experience was quite positive. The food, particularly the muffin, offered great value, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming. I would not mind returning to explore more of their full menu the next time I'm in the area.
Kroran Uyghur Cuisine
2024 Mar 26
I've heard many praises for Kroran Uyghur Cuisine and was thrilled to experience it firsthand. My visit during Ramadan resulted in a very quiet ambiance, reflecting not on the restaurant's quality but the fasting period observed by its primary clientele. Here’s what I ordered:
Lamb Kawap (Kebab): This dish was a highlight, with four large, juicy grilled lamb skewers presented over pita bread, complemented by onion and green onion garnishes. Using a spoon, I transferred the meat to my plate, and enjoyed the meat that was tender and juicy. Smoky and earthy spices enhanced the lamb's natural flavours.
Kidney Kawap: A skewer per order, it had a bold, gamey flavour, with a delightful blend of smoky and spicy tastes.
Quruq Qorima: An intriguing dry stir-fry featuring short, chewy noodles coated with a savoury and slightly sour sauce, primarily tomato-based. The beef slices and julienned bell pepper added layers of texture and flavour. Dry peppers scared me at first, but the overall taste was surprisingly mild.
The restaurant’s ambiance was understated but inviting, with tasteful decor including black tables, light brown walls, and captivating art pieces.
A minor inconvenience was the single shared restroom for all genders, which could potentially lead to issues during busier times. Also, the server's availability was limited, understandable given that we were the only patrons.
While the dishes were undoubtedly high quality, the total bill was higher than my expectations. A more affordable pricing would have improved my satisfaction with the meal.
Overall, I had an authentic and enjoyable meal, marked by quality dishes. However, the cost considerations will influence my decision on planning a return visit for another indulgent culinary adventure.
Phat Kaphrao
2023 Feb 22
If you're looking for delicious, authentic Thai food, look no further than this hidden gem! Phat Kaphrao offers a range of Thai dishes beyond the typical curries and pad thai to delight your taste buds.
I had the Khao Man Gai (chicken on fried rice) during my recent visit. The chicken was soft and tender, and the accompanying sauce had a strong ginger taste that made the dish stand out. I appreciated that it was boneless, which made it very easy to eat. My friends tried the Phat Kaphrao (Stir fried meat with rice) and Padthai, both very fragrant and fresh.
One thing I noted was how friendly and helpful the restaurant personnel were. They were happy to answer our questions, offer chilli oil on the side, and even recommended the level of spiciness for our dishes. I ordered mine medium-spicy, which had just the right amount of heat for my taste.
The restaurant was small, with only four seats. We were lucky because we did not know about it but could still dine in. Most people ordered takeout instead.
Overall, I had an enjoyable experience and would recommend Phat Khaphrao to anyone looking for authentic and flavourful Thai food. I can't wait to return and order more dishes, this time to go!
Bourbon Street Grill

5 stars. In my opinion, this place will give you the best bang for your buck in this food court. They have many choices and everything tastes good. Some days their noodles/rice would be harder than normal, and that’s my only complaint. They give you a lot of food for the price. The best part is that they are quite consistent when it comes to what you can expect from them. “Tremendous value” is what their sign reads, and I sort of agree. Highly recommended.
