If you want to get a good workout in and some cardio this is the hike for you. The trail splits into 2 trails one goes higher and up over a hill and I’m not sure where the other goes but it is lower. Along the way there was beautiful plants and Arizona cacti along the way. Once you are up and over the first hill it gets more difficult from there and you have to hike up/to the top of a small mountain. This hike is definitely worth the view and all the beautiful cacti too! The trail keep going back down once at the top.
Difficult trail but soooo worth it. I started at Calico Basin trail and decided to head up this steep trail which goes up and over and through the mountain. The hike up was difficult and you definitely get your cardio in (bring water and food). Dog friendly saw many dogs trotting up there w their owners. Once at the top there is this amazing view of one vast mountain range that shares 4 different types rocks/colors which was very beautiful. Rock climbing was very common there and the trail kept on going but not sure where it leads to.
Great hike! I didn’t have to pay for entry and the parking lot was very big, there were bathrooms and I visited during middle of December. There were not a lot of people and apparently lots of great climbing/bouldering places all along the way. Trails branch out many places, there’s much to explore. Was kind of cold so I wore a sweater and long pants, take water.
Great visiting the monument, there were cute flower shops and food shops around the area giving out free samples.
