This bird sanctuary is right beside the Bayou Bend Gardens. Please note that the sanctuary itself is not part of the gardens as a lot of photos posted here are of the gardens and not the sanctuary. If you expect nicely, manicured gardens you’ll come away disappointed.
Entry is free. It’s a short 600ft walk from the parking area via a paved track to a point in the middle of trees and bushes. If you stay quiet and look up, you might spot some bird species you may have never seen before.

I like the trails here. Some trails are in a lightly wooded area and good for hiking and biking (Green Ridge Trail). You will encounter a few steep jumps (about 2 feet) and a lot of mature roots all across the paths. So a moderate trail for beginner bikers and an easy one for regular hikers. The other trails (Purple Trail etc) are easy for walks and hikes with some paved paths not accessible to bikers.
Views: You get to be in the middle of a wooded forest right in the middle of Houston. A few small streams that lead into the Bayou are quite nice to see.
Flora: Oak, Pine and Cypress trees everywhere with a few palms (how did they get here?!). Also wild berries, golden rods, and mushrooms (after rain).
Fauna: Squirrels and Hares are common. I saw Yellow-tailed Cuckoos and a quick glimpse of a red fox. You have to be really quiet to see them.

Amazing rock formations of at least three different colors - due to the type of rock and mineral content. Rose Valley from the pink shaded rock seen here.
The Park is closed for now. The greens are overgrown and it appears to have been left to nature. Probably a good thing.
