Shaw Plaza
2023 Oct 30
A cosy and refurbished family-centric mall with a good variety of F&Bs, entertainment, and education services. Reminds me slightly of Funan’s look and feel; sans the size of course. It’s also home to the only cinema (Shaw Theatre’s of course) within the vicinity.

An outdoor sky terrace is also available for kids to hang around the slides and greenery. Parking is easy and lots are sufficient. The mall on overall is also easy to navigate and convenient to locate the stalls. Signs are well-placed to guide the new visitors too. Not much of a retail mall for fashion shoppers but well serves it purpose for the families living in the vicinity looking to get daily groceries done or sending their kids for educational classes.
Sengkang Grand Mall
2023 Oct 20
Decent mall with mix of outdoor and indoor experiences. Not amazingly large but also decent enough for a heartlander mall. Very conveniently located outside of Buangkok MRT.

It is the first integrated development that comprises of a 3-level retail component, a hawker centre, childcare centre, community club.

They also offer over 90 brands such as FairPrice Finest, Collins, Kenny Rogers, McDonald’s, Uniqlo, MindChamps, City Hotpot and many more. There are also community spaces like the playground and shower facilities at Level 1 - very elderly and kids friendly.

With a diversified selection of essential offerings and ease of convenience to hawker culture, childcare services as well as being able to have group activities in a brand-new community centre, Sengkang Grand Mall is set to redefine the joy of living in Buangkok.
Hougang Mall

It's been around for many years and near Hougang Central Bus Interchange, as well as Hougang MRT station. A pretty vibrant mall at first go which is popular amongst residents and individuals of all ages.

There are tuition centres on the top floor for the young ones and an arcade-like outlet with addictive games. Plenty of F&B choices, from the very well-known homegrown brands to international delights. A couple of new ones have opened up over the pandemic too. A library is also situated here for those keen to have a bit of quiet time to read or simply rest. FairPrice supermarket is also here - no surprises as this mall used to be called NTUC mall way back in the days. Good to have your grocery done easily. The food court is also recently refurbished and rebranded - even houses a gastro bar-like dining experience at a corner!

Parking is slightly limited but there are plenty of HDB parking options nearby too. Definitely a great place to spend time with your family or friends.
Harbour Bay Batam

Honestly nothing much to look forward here other than getting a Grab to your
hotel or next destination upon arrival or check in for departure. Many shops are not opened and amenities are scarce. A couple of pop up stalls selling kueh lapis, food courts and mobile phone operators that’s about it. Don’t expect much but the place is relatively well-maintained, clean and patrolled by police officers regularly. Starbucks is probably the only cafe worth the time for a rest and drink.
Northshore Plaza II
2022 Feb 05
The extension of Northshore Plaza l was completed just near the start of 2022 and visitors can now access Plaza ll via an overhead bridge from Plaza l Level 2 or cross the street on Level 1 instead.

Some of them are yet to be officially opened but more will come in Q1 2022. Some famous brands include A&W (super long queue but confident hype will diminish in a few months), Daiso, 4Fingers, Dancing Crab. There will be a newly opened food court as well run by Kopitiam. Similar to Plaza l, it has an open air design concept with three levels. Walkways are very spacious and there’s even a full view to the sea at the end of Level 2! Really great place to enjoy the sea breeze!

Will be sure to visit again after Q1 to visit the rest of the stalls. Really convenient for adjacent housing apartments. Great for elderly, kids, families and dates!
