You can have a feel of the warmth and simplicity of Oman rulers here. ... The palace is cute and really captivating... The red color paving stones and tarmac is truly matching with the architecture of the location...
Entry to the palace is restricted, but can go close to the gate.. and if you are fortunate enough, you can have a chat with the straight forward and smiling soldiers protecting the whole compound
Its a marvelous towering structure built by the King.... Spread over a vast land with ample space for parking and walking... Its assumed that the mosque is built mainly as a tourist attraction to showcase the rich heritage and history of Oman.. there are only few worshippers for the daily sala's, and majority of them are the workers employed in the mosque for its upkeep. Understood that the construction took some years .. Its really worth a visit to see the mosque.
The view changes entirely to a different mood in the night due to the illumination by lights.... The structure can be seen from long distances and its really an asset to the city of Sohar....
No ticket to enter the premises and the mosque.
Non-Muslims can also pay visit to the mosque, but learned that they are not permitted during prayer times to the mosque proper... Lot of visitors from all faith are seen visiting the structure....

Wikipedia describes the mosque as "It was named after the previous Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said. The mosque is built on a site occupying 181,000 square metres, and the built up area is 28,778 square metres. The area allocated for the mosque accommodates landscaping, car parks and other facilities. The main prayer hall can hold over 4,600 worshipers, while the women's area can accommodate 740 worshipers. The mosque has a garden, three main entrances, four minarets, and a blue main dome. It also integrates wood in its design. The interior of the mosque is intricate with subtle colors. The mihrab is tiled in a turquoise and gold palette. The carpet has a horizontally-lined pattern"

Wow!!.. What a place... well maintained and planning done to satisfy all sorts of serious tourists.. lot of spaces for relaxation. ... Enough parking spaces for vehicles... Plenty of attractions nearby... You can see the cruise ships anchored in the port Sultan Qaboos .. the harbour is home to His Majesty's dhow, visiting cruise ships and assorted naval vessels. it looks spectacular at sunset when the light casts shadows across the serrated crescent of mountains, while pavements, lights and fountains invite an evening stroll or a bike ride.

.. the mutra souq is another attraction not to be missed...
