Such a humanistic leader. This is why his values and principles are always up to date ❤️
Was not aware about history read later:
The statue stands as a lasting tribute to the significant role played by John Adrian Lewis Hope, 7th Earl of Hopetoun, 1st Marquis of Linlithgow, in Australia's history. It serves as a reminder of his influential contributions as the country's inaugural Governor-General.
The date went good boys

A memorial in a small garden.
I'm not gonna lie I don't know who Marquis is but it's a very nice statue and I really like his horse. The statue is best viewed from the rear side as then you get the backdrop of Southbank in the background which is really nice.

Lest We Forget

As it sits alone in the middle of the road it's not for a service, but flowers are still laid.
A memorial statue sculptured by a Scotsman, who's yet to visit Australia.

Peaceful, tasteful memorial set as a fountain in a small inner city park.
Nearby is a footpath that can provide access for wheelchair accessible to help make that memorable moments and stroll through Kings Park botanical gardens, a nice peaceful place for walk or running exercise, there is is also public toilets just minutes away.

What came first? The statue or the intersection? Must have been the statue.. but then they really really really wanted an intersection right on the dang spot. So roads all round it...

Burke and Wills, the leader and second in command of the ill-fated expedition to cross the Australian continent, died on their return journey at Cooper's Creek in June 1861. Their bodies were exhumed and returned to Melbourne on 29 December 1862 and interned here on 21 January 1863 (Australia's first state funeral). Subsequently, in May 1866 the monument commemorating the explorers was erected over the grave site. This monument, a large Harcourt granite block, is twelve feet high by six feet square at the base and tapers to 5 feet square at the top. The block itself weighs nearly 30 tons and was the largest block ever quarried in Victoria and it was one of the most difficult undertakings ever effected in the colonies to get it from the quarry to the cemetery. The inscriptions on the four faces on the base were added in March 1873. This grave is one of the most visited in the cemetery.

He is such a big leader so that he still lives all around the world...
A most unusual memorial made up of three tiers of shells from the dreadnaught class battleship HMS Queen Elizabeth (1913). The top, very large, shell having been converted into a moneybox accepting coin donations "towards upkeep of sailors and soldiers avenues in this park."

The South African (2nd Boer) War Memorial was designed by Arthur Peck and unveiled on 12 March 1905. The memorial pays tribute to and commemorates the St Kilda soldiers who fought and those that died in the South African (Boer) War, from 1899 to 1902. The memorial is a tall, tapering shaft, built in brick covered by faience work and stands on a granite-clad plinth. On the west side panel, there's a life-size figure of a soldier dressed in Australian khaki, and facing the sea. The panel on the north side lists the 7 soldiers that died in the war and two other panels record the names of the 58 who fought and returned.

Great
The bronze equestrian statue on a granite pedestal located on the corner of St Kilda Road and Government House Drive, Kings Domain is a memorial to Marquis of Linlithgow formerly John Adrian Lewis Hope, the 7th Earl of Hopetoun, who was a British aristocrat and statesman and who, at the age of 29, arrived in Australia to serve as the Governor of Victoria from 1889 to 1895.

He returned to England in 1895, with a reputation for being one of the most conscientious governors in Australia. He returned to Australia in 1901 to become the new federation's first Governor-General but resigned a year later and returned to his native Scotland, where he died in 1905, at the age of 47. In 1902, the Earl of Hopetoun was made Marquis of Linlithgow. Because of his extravagance, Hopetoun's term as governor-general is generally regarded as a failure.

The statue was unveiled in June 1911 by Governor-General Sir John Fuller and acting Prime Minister William Hughes.
