What a fantastic venue. Surrounded by Australian plants, beautiful architectural design and a good variety of historical items to look at. Even better are the fun activities for the kids to engages in, plus a bean bag rest area, small cafe, and quiet sensory room . Well worth the visit with the family
I had a great time with my family
We spent about two hours browsing the exhibits
It is wheelchair and stroller friendly, has restrooms, and an outdoor picnic area
And coffee shop as well.
Free Entry. Well maintained. You'll need a couple of hours to get through the exhibit if you are very detailed. There's young children's play area/ activities near the cafe.

Love it. Not very big, but with lots of activities for kids, perfect place to spend relaxing Saturday morning.
Powerhouse Castle Hill is now open. Built to store all pieces from the closed city museum.
We found a few interesting activities for young and old. We also attended the construction tour which was interesting.
Was interesting to show my kids some of the tech item we grew up with: walkman, the nokia brick, faxes, atari and so on!
Overall a wonderful museum just freshly renovated for close to $42 million!

My girls absolutely love spark lab. Their 9 and 4 years old. It's great fun, very entertaining and a really fun way to learn! My only suggestion (which I'm sure would be expensive but) it would be lovely to have things swapped and changed every so. I've found my girls running from one thing to the next these days because they've done it all before. I must say thought today's creative area were doing electricity using batteries and cables. My girls loved that!! Even I love it. Definitely will be back again. Thank you for creating such an awesome place for our kids to learn outside of the world of technology! 😃

We had such a lovely family fun day at the museum. It has got a lot of engaging kids activities which was different from normal coloring or arts n crafts. The exhibitions and displays are educational and covers a good variety. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. Saving the trip to go all the way to the city is always a bonus.
We visited the Powerhouse Museum (Darling) on January 2, 2024. Because Sydney is a very walkable city, we walked there after we finished visiting another museum. This one in Darling is near Chinatown / Paddy Haymarket. The cost was free which made it even better! The museum was amazing. I loved the various exhibits with a focus on steam engines. It was fascinating how the use of steam powered so many things from a printing press, to a fire engine. They also had various instruments on exhibit as well. We met a wonderful employee that provided in-depth information. If you love technology from the past, you must visit! I also encourage anyone with children to visit too. They had a cool exhibit for the kids.

Visited the Powerhouse Museum for the first time on Sunday. Definitely worth a visit. There is plenty to look at and such a range of displays to suit a wide variety of interests. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There is a gift shop and cafe there also.
We were there on Sunday, their first tour started at 1:00 p.m. and they explained everything very enthusiastically and very interestingly, and the next tour started at 1:30 p.m. and we learned all the interesting information for free, and we all had a lot of fun. We won and it was a nightmare.

It's amazing display of a museum.
So many things to see from its different eras of products.
There are four levels of buildings to see. Don't worry, they provide escalators and lifts!
Toilets and shop including cafe (try their orange cake!)

To visit this museum by bus 501 from Central or just walk from Chinatown (paddy's market).

Note : come now before they will renovate it on next February.
Free of charge.

A must see before they close for a 3year renovation as of Feb 2024! An AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL experience with something for EVERYONE! Electricity, steam power, space, fashion, history and PRIDE! Clean, beautifully presented exhibitions, fully accessible, lots of quiet low light areas too if your from a Nuro-Spicey family. We were lucky enough to see the volunteer steam engine master come in and start up all the steam powered equipment. He even stopped to chat to us after as we were following him around quietly in awe of how he went about starting each machine. A fine art these days! Absolutely a must see if you are in Sydney and entry was free at the time we went too.

I remember this place being so amazing and while it was okay for the older kids they drastically downsized since I last went and so all the things 2-4yr olds would enjoy (like the moving tunnel, the slanted room, the giant furniture) are all gone and now it's majority experiment stuff catered to 5-11yr olds. It's also not that easy to find the entrance so I spent ages wondering around looking for the entrance

Very nice museum to visit with amazing collections. I was getting there to see the famous PBY Catalina aircraft, but I was delighted by the other collections, and especially, as an engineer, by the scientific discovery of electricity, magnetism, gravity etc… Nice

It will close soon (5-Feb-24) for 3 years for major renovations. Not much exhibitions to see. But it is free for now. A good place to take young kids to take a look. And enjoy the outing in nearby areas and dine in haymarket for good food.

This is the best museum I've ever went to! I came to see a replica of the Mars Rover! It was fantastic, next, I went to a place where you can make food with art supplies like coloured string, cardboard and wool sheets. There was a place where you could cut fruit and it was oddly satisfying when I cut it. I definitely recommend

It’s a free activity so you can only gain by coming here.

Plenty to see for everyone from fashion and LGBT to the original train and trams.

The 1001 items exhibit in the heart of the building was my personal favourite. Lots of connected rooms with different colours and themes based on the random trinkets on display

‘Twas a rainy day when we went so this was great to hide in for a few hours.

Just a few minutes walk from light rail station. The staff at the entrance was nice and reminded you to get the map from the table.
The locomotives displayed on level 3 (Exit/Entrance ) are very eye-catching. Let's know the history of transportation in NSW.
The Space section is also interesting, especially the feeling of zero gravity and driving a rocket.
The experiment section is good for kids to experience science.
There is also a large area for displaying historical relics and contemporary art where more staff stand by. They can answer your questions about the exhibits. It does not display the exhibits chronologically.
I'm not sure about the theme of this museum. It also displays drag queen and fashion.

The museum was very interesting and I would recommend having a look at what displays they have up before going. For the main exhibit, children under 17 had free access and they also had sunflower disability lanyards at the front desk. It is a short walk from central station and has lifts for easy access within the building.

Beautiful museum with much to see in engines and various transports!
It has a very nice portion on space exploration, and another portion just on steam engines and trains.
A great place to bring your family to learn a bit about science.

I work in the building next door and am an admitted physics nut so I'm likely biased, but it's very worth a visit for those suitably "inclined" ;)

Went to the 1001 Remarkable Objects exhibition. What a fantastic free event.

Saw some very cool things, old, not so old and random items. Really enjoyed it.

Got to see some old planes and space travel things as well!

Stumbled across this museum on a walk. I had great fun exploring it. There are tonnes of interesting exhibits, including trains, fashion, furniture, planes, science, space, and music.
It is a great place to bring children.
Entry is free.
The museum is fully disability accessible. There are accessible toilets. There are wheelchairs for hire, but these are limited, so it is best to call in advance.
Sunday museum stroll was excellent!
Cant believe i have never been to Powerhouse for the last 5 years in Sydney!

Love the interactive experiences and as I used to be major in Physics in high school this is like a trip down to the memory lane 😅😆 the museum has a huge range of exhibitions we cant finish them all before the museum closed.

Might come back some other days

There are some great sections, and then there are some not so much. Kids may enjoy the exhibits on space and old trams, trains. Entry is free, and there are school tours often here. Guidance on exhibits can be better, and a map with the recommended path can help. A nice experience for may be 2 hours. Interactive sections on science, space, and old steam engines will keep kids happy.

This is ticketed activity located inside Museum. Plenty of things to to especially for your little ones that like arts and crafts. Totally recommend if you want to spend an hour or two and keep your little tots busy.

A fantastic little space to take young ones to explore some fun science areas. Although a little smaller than expected, there were some great attractions, a few small events by staff members which were really engaging and interesting, and plenty of hands-on science related activities for the kids to get involved in. A great place to combine with the dinosaur museum and general museum too, and the tickets were not too expensive at all.

We took our son to Spark Lab and he absolutely loved it! It's interactive and engaging. The making station was a big hit, trying to make a chair. Probably something we will do each time we are on holidays in Brisbane! It's fun for the whole family!

What a brilliant little space for the budding scientist! With friendly and approachable staff who are super-keen to share their love of science, and a clean space with plenty to do, heading here is a no brainer!

We went on a weekday, which meant we only had to share the space with a handful of other families. This also meant we got to get up close with the demonstrations at the Spark Bar, and were able to talk to a data specialist whilst the kids were being entertained elsewhere.

It is a small space compared to the floor space of the museum, however, it sure is a feast for the eyes, ears and senses!

Love this place, we got the annual pass and kids love to hang out here and play in the maker space or various building activities. Love how the maker space activities change regularly and how the staff are so friendly and on hand to assist. These activities are carefully thought out so younger ones can join in as well.

Awesome history of physics equipment PLUS the pitch drop experiment. Very cool.
Absolutely amazing museum, would highly recommend it to anyone vaguely interested in physics or science.

I went for the opportunity to see the dripping pitch, and it was everything I hoped for. You could spend an hour in the tightly crammed museum. Having the audio guide is really helpful since I don't have a science background and had no idea what most of the collection was for.

Very interesting, but also very small. Swing by if you are in the area, it's a good time, but it's also a short time and nothing to make plans for.

The UQ Physics Museum is situated in the Parnell building and is a fantastic place for those wanting to look at a small collection of historical physics instruments.
I highly recommend following some of the audio tours available online.
A key part of the Museum is also the Pitch Drop experiment, which is brilliant to learn the history behind while being a little uninteresting to watch.
Overall, if you're at the University of Queensland and looking for something to do - the Physics Museum is a great way to pass the time while learning something new.

Well worth a look for the scientifically curious, particularly for the princely sum of $0. Smells a bit dusty and in need of better airflow.

The UQ Physics museum consists mostly of three cabnets in a hallway within the physics block.

Two of these cabnets (not pictured) house an array of scientific equipment used in the past, the other cabinet (pictured) houses the famous Pitch Drop Experiment, which has been running for over 100 years.
