A blanket review of our stay feels a bit rough to do but to break it down, we have three categories. Our stay, our experience with the accommodation check in and then the Dinner experience.

Starting off, our experience upon checking was great and I would give it 5/5 stars. The staff were friendly and so helpful. Also letting us know about the water was incredibly helpful and gave us a heads up before our showers. (The have slightly brown water due to the tea tree in the water), but it’s safe to shower in and they include bottled water in the rooms for drinking. On its own, understandable and not a deal breaker.

The accommodation itself was a nice room, the floors were a bit dirty but it was tidy and the bed was clean. The smell was a strange musky scent but we put that down to the age of the building. The view was superb. Downside is you can hear everyone around you in the rooms surrounding. So peace and quiet doesn’t really exist. Especially in the morning when families are packing up for their day and you’re trying to sleep in.

Now for the dinner, the service was confusing to be honest. You have to seperate the food from the drinks order but honestly not a deal breaker. Our biggest issue was ordering meals. We ordered a steak with chips and veggies.. but it normally came with Mash. We were told we couldn’t substitute even for dietaries (I’m lactose intolerant) so we had to order fries separately.

Our second order was a Parma which came with salad and chips…. We asked to swap the salad for
Veggies and were told we couldn’t do that. Generally these aren’t issues at pubs, so just felt strange.

If you’re a Coke drinker, it’s not Coke on tap. It comes out of a stale plastic bottle, so ask for a can.

Overall the location is great, especially after a big day of exploring Port Arthur.

Terrible experience with the chef at The Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel. The chef was extremely rude and showed no manners at all. It’s disappointing to see such unprofessional behavior in a place that prides itself on hospitality. This kind of attitude completely ruins the dining experience. I would not recommend dining here unless the management addresses this issue.

Excellent food at an excellent location. Room could have been better. Lots of spiders in the bathroom and the water was not suitable to drink or brush your teeth with, which the staff does accommodate you with free fresh drinking water.

I am appalled by the experience my partner and I had with Fox and Hounds Hotel, not just during our stay but also after leaving an honest review. The hotel manager responded to my partner’s feedback with an insulting and completely unprofessional comment: “No need to take time to reply to your rubbish… live nicely in your little world, for a little man.”

This response is unacceptable and highlights the complete disregard this establishment has for its guests. Instead of addressing valid concerns—such as brackish water, filthy floors, sub-par food, and a lack of basic amenities—the manager resorted to personal attacks. It’s a disgraceful way to handle feedback and speaks volumes about the current management’s attitude.

Beyond the appalling conduct, the stay itself was disappointing. The water was murky and unusable for anything but the bare minimum, the floors in the room were visibly dirty, and the food was overpriced, delayed, and poorly prepared. Basic hospitality standards were absent, and the overall experience felt more like staying at an unkempt campsite than a hotel.

If this is how management treats paying guests, I strongly urge others to look elsewhere. Save yourself the frustration and book with a hotel that values its customers. Fox and Hounds is an embarrassment to hospitality.

Stopped in for a pint and a feed. Tables were sticky. we ordered a burger (burger bacon eggs cheese) and fish n chips. I chose salad with my fish, glad I did on seeing the chips hubby got. 5 minutes in the waiter announced no bacon and no eggs... but also no change in price for the burger 🤷‍♀️ this is during peak tourist season with an empty restaurant(maybe it was empty for a reason?) Fish was good, salad was decent. Burger and chips were ok too. Overall experience 2/5

It's not a bad spot to stop if you can manage to unlock the dump point.
The lock is down on the ground and difficult to operate

We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms overlooking the pool. The bed was extremely soft and comfortable and everything was very new. On the downside, there was minimal comforts ie a small bin for rubbish wouldn't go astray, and a chair to sit on inside instead of having to sit on the pristine white bed linen to watch tv. Mobile phone reception was non existent and the wifi cut in and out making the tv pixelate. On the upside, very accommodating reception staff, and very efficient air con. We were going to stay an extra night but decided to head home as we were missing our furbabies.

Five stars for the beach view rooms... ahhhmazing !!! New renovations are taking this place to a whole new level of beautiful. If you feel like you want to be in the movie Beaches, rent the ocean room!

A wonderful location and great staff, especially Courtney. The view from our balcony was spectacular. My family and I will definitely return. Highly recommend ocean view.

Aldi and another small shopping centre literally across the road/very convenient.
Plenty of room. Bit of road and rail noise at night but not bad. I'll be back there.

Room we had is beach view which is very nice. Room is a bit old but currently they are under renovation. Wifi service is poor. Location is good in bargara service we did not need any only reception services smooth service especially if you book in advance.

Booked online and paid for a room. When I arrived they said they don’t have the booking despite me showing the bank transaction with all of the correct information for Don Pancho. I asked to at least receive a refund and they said they have to talk to management and that they’ll speak to them in just over an hours time. ??why not just call them on the spot. Now we have been left with no place to stay and out of pocket what we paid.

Unsure if the same problem but a lady was on the phone next to us demanding a refund saying she’d been on the phone for ages so the place just seems extra dodgy. Don’t risk it and book elsewhere.

I actually worked at Don Pancho 38 years ago, so I tried to book but left it too late.

So I popped down today to have a look at what's changed in the last 4 decades.
The Don is having major renovations done and is looking fabulous...
They still have more to do, but it'll be amazing when it's finished.
The quick walk around brought back so many happy memories and I look forward to actually booking in (in advance) next time.

The Fox and Hounds is well located on the Port Arthur region, close to the historic sites and away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas.
The service was excellent, from booking through to check in and dinner that night. All the staff were great and responsive.
The rooms are good, with spectacular views out over the forest and lake. The room was warm, bed comfortable and we slept well. The water is discoloured (tannin from the trees surrounding the local lake) however it’s safe to shower and wash in, and the hotel supplies an endless amount of bottled water for drinking and tea or coffee.
The meals in the bistro weren’t cheap, but they were generous and the service was great. Given that this is a remote regional area, the pricing is reasonable.
Plenty of parking close to the rooms and easy access to local walks and sites.

Very tidy and has everything a van site has. Probably better re. noise etc.

It's a great showground , but if there has been lots of rain it can be muddy.
Amenities are great and there is an Aldi across the road in walking distance .

Don’t look too close. We were here for just one night - luckily. Rooms are not clean, carpet is disgusting and should have been replaced years ago. Only the location is ok, but this does not make the rest any better. I would definitely not book it again. Even worse, they charge 170 AUD/ night for this.

Stayed there overnight , woken up by trains ,trucks, dogs ,early starting workers and then lawn mowers ! Wouldnt reconmend for $35 👎

Great spot for overnight or 2 or 3 days, very clean, easy to access and staff were friendly and helpful, good shopping centre across the road highly recommend

A great place to stay, even though there are a lot of renovations going on. We had a two bedroom fully contained ocean view apartment.... It was amazing. Plenty of room to move about and very clean and comfortable. We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely go back.

Don’t be fooled by the photo of the Twin Room on the website. It doesn’t exist.
The room we walked into was old, smelly and dirty. Holes in the carpet, lights that didn’t work. We asked for another room and it was just as bad. Left and should have got a refund. Absolutely disgusting.

Stayed at the apartment for 2 nights 3 days. Very clean with excellent views

I was traveling up to Kalbarri and one of my stops was at the pinnacles for sunset. i needed somewhere to stay for the night afterwards and the Cervantes Pinnacles Motel fit the bill perfectly. The staff were attentive, friendly and helped out with any questions i had. the restaurant food was incredible and came out very fast.

the room was spacious and comfortable for my nights but could have easily stayed longer.

Would book again.

Had visits from wild kangaroos, and even a deer. Moment of my life. Great place. Highly recommended.

Saubere Zimmer und Motel typisch mit Parkplatz direkt davor. Die Zimmer sind sehr in die Jahre gekommen, aber für eine Nacht in der Durchreise tiptop. Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter und das Essen im Restaurant war super. Wir hatten Lamb Shanks und Schnitzel.

It's a good stopover though a lack of shade on hot days is not so great. You need to book in online but still have to find a "caretaker?" for amenity codes and where to park up.

Other showgrounds that make you book online, after you have paid, often provide all details in their email to you.

The amenities are new and good.

Disappointed apartment not as stated as booked initially for the first two days of the visit there was a bad stench we had to leave all the doors and windows open to get rid of the smell. Pool was not operating we needed it for health reason and we where not properly notified . We where told by a residence that the pool was having issues for many months. There where no fly screens. On the plus side it was a large apartment, with beautiful views and good parking. Worth two and a half stars.

Stayed 2 nights and was so impressed we booked in for a longer stay at Xmas. Staff are helpful and professional and food is the best we have had. Room very comfortable with shower hot and airconditioner, refrigerator and microwave working well. Very clean and neat and close to beach. Pool well kept. My husband and I fully recommend this place for a peaceful getaway.

$30 power and water. $25 unpowered. We had to borrow another 20m power lead from the office to reach the power box from our particular site. Water was at the same connection and we had to use our main hose plus our smaller extension to reach it. Access to clean and spacious amenities is via a code. A lot of miners in vans down the back who generally ignored the speed limit plus there was a lot of back and forth along the access road by them which was annoying after a while. Being woken at 5:30 by them heading off to work, plus trucks starting up and idling for over ten minutes, was not a lot of fun. It was by far the noisiest and most annoying showground we have ever stayed at. Seeing there is no alternative caravan park in the town limits, it is what it is. We just did not stay as long as we planned because of it. Would never stay here again.

Wonderful quiet location in the beautiful Grampians, the cabins are very clean and fully equipped, great bbq area, nice little pool and playground. Wildlife right outside the window. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's a must stay for those travelling here

Absolutely loved our stay at Halls Gap Log Cabins, the hosts were really friendly, the cabins were extremely clean and almost everything was provided. The little one loved the playground and the BBQ area very clean and again utensils provided. Seeing the kangaroos and emu each day was so good. We will definitely be coming back.

We booked a 3 Bedroom, and only one bedroom has an aircon machine in it. There’s only 2 showers/toilets and you can’t shower at the same time otherwise they are stone cold!!! The pool and spa is great though and the reception staff was so nice. They’re super huge and spacious rooms with a nice view of the water.

Stunning location. Fantastic cabins.
Better than we expected.
Like an old world charmed log cabin as nature intended with a beautiful touches.
For the price, it was brilliant.
Oh and the fireplace was magnificent and very warm.

Beautiful, cosy and spotlessly clean accommodation in the heart of Halls Gap. Loved the spectacular views, super comfortable beds and the attention to detail. We spent a week hiking in the heart of winter and it was great to return to such comfortable accommodation each evening. Hope to return soon.

We absolutely loved our short stay at Heath House. Perfectly located just a short stroll to cafes and shops & quiet enough to enjoy the serenity of the beautiful surroundings. The house had everything we could wish for and was a cosy warm luxury escape from the chilly weather. Vouchers were supplied to use at the local cafes and businesses (what a great idea) & finally, the very friendly kangaroos and bird life made for some lovely precious memories. 5 stars - we cannot wait to return.

Do not waste your money 🤮 rooms with old broken furniture , bathroom full of mould , smoke director beeping ever few minutes we couldn’t get any sleep . Waste of money !!!

Booked a 1 bedroom apartment with DeVille Apartments for a weeks stay in Main Beach. Absolutely stunning views right in the waters edge. Amazing staff at the reception, always so kind and responsive! The apartment was in the heart of everything, across the road is the surf lifesaving club with delicious food, and you are able to swim literally off your doorstep! The Uber ride into surfers is roughly $7 and takes 5 min. Or you can jump on the e-bikes or walk the esplanade for amazing views. Overall this apartment was amazing!! Will be defs coming back to this apartment for our next stay!!

Heath house it is one of the most comfortable and well appointed tourist and holiday accommodation we have stayed in. Excellent location to all of Halls Gap recreation activities, cafes and restaurants. Stunning views of the Grampians . A must to visit.

Room was lovely, pool was great and excellent location- however, the low star rating is for a SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. We were on the 6th floor and all bedroom windows opened the entire way (some up to a meter wide maybe) and had NO screens. Also, they are very easy to open. Anyone with young children should avoid at all costs. Is this even legal in Australia? Pic shows hight and size of windows (didn't take one when open).

WOW. Just WOW!! We loved our stay! Everything was so clean and convenient. The kids loved the telescope and outdoor spa! The beds were so comfortable we didn't want to leave. Highly recommend, We will be back.

We have stayed in places like this all around the country - but this is the BEST. From the friendly welcome, to the clean cabins, all very well equipped and set up, it is great.
While it is a couple of minutes drive from the town, that's no real problem and is more than compensated for by the spectacular mountain views and the ever-present close up wildlife.
Will always be one of our favourite places.

Lucky enough to stay on Level 25 - amazing beach and gold coast views! The apartment was clean, comfortable, well-equipped (kitchen, laundry and bathrooms), easily accessible, underground parking, friendly staff, well maintained. (We went for the view rather than a renovated apartment but our room was perfectly fine).
Great pool and spa, Australia Fair shopping centre close by, very short trips to theme parks.
Highly recommend this place and hope to stay there again in the future.

(Vacuum cleaner didn't work and no replacement was provided despite requests but who wants to vacuum on holidays anyway??)

For where it located. Its an okay accommodation. Close to one of the biggest malls. Room wise though..... needs updating and an air freshener. There was an odd smell like old cigarettes smell. Shower curtains touching the floor. (Mould hazard) tiles don't look clean.

Immaculate house in the heart of Halls Gap, right near restaurants, cafes and hikes. Zero noise, kangaroos and stunning scenery greeted us on arrival and the view from the back deck was everything we hoped for. The house was so tidy and well stocked with lovely furniture and the basic necessities. Our favourites were the huge bright lounge room with lovely couches, the large spa and the comfy beds. Very communicative and friendly host who makes sure the house is presentable for every guest. I would highly recommend a stay at Heath House.

Really loved our two nights stay at the Heath House. The property is very modern and luxurious. It has amazing mountain views and you'll be surrounded by kangaroos and bird chirpings. Cathy was very responsive and kind. Hoping to visit again in the future❤

Wow! Everything about our stay at Heath House was 5 ⭐️. Cathy’s communication in the weeks leading up were so welcome. And the house itself is just stunning, with everything you could need. We (myself husband & 9yo daughter) had a long weekend in the middle of a freezing cold winter and we were so happy with Heath House. The house was just like being at home, full kitchen, quality furnishings, peaceful, with a paddock of kangaroos to look out over to the Grampians. Our daughter even enjoyed a quick hot tub in the rain. We will be back and we’ve told all our friends and family about Heath House too, they oohed and aahed over our photos and videos. Thanks Cathy!!

I called to make enquires before booking and was told due to lockdown they weren't excepting booking except it showed online that they where. The woman who answered didn't speak English very well and was hard to understand. I had a Asian friend call and she offered him a room. Obviously racist would not stay here

A basic motel, but at only $100, we were impressed. The room was clean, had separate toilet, shower and hand basin/kettle areas, comfortable bed and plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Will stay there again if the need arises.

Well, it was a pretty shabby place. The first room we were placed in needed a major spruce-up. Very basic housekeeping was badly needed, vacuuming, fresh coat of paint on the walls etc. The bathroom needed an hygienic appearance.
We were upgraded though, this was a slight improvement. I will definitely not be recommending this establishment to anyone. The upside though, the manager Gary was helpful and pleasant.

Staff were very friendly.
However the room was very dirty, the only thing in the room that looked clean were the sheets (thankfully).
We stayed for 4 nights and not once was our room serviced, not even fresh towels. I had to go to the service desk and request more towels. On my trip to get more towels (after the second day of my service of the room) I mentioned to the staff that this hadn’t occurred at all, yet still no service.
The basin and mirror were filthy, walls painted yellow looked more black-brown from previous visitors touching walls and the shower left much to be desired, lets just say I wore thongs in the shower.
Level of cleanliness could definitely be improved and should probably ensure that your cleaning team services the rooms daily, which is pretty much the standard of all hotel/motels

The worst place. My Brother booked this place for my wife, myself and our two young kids for Christmas night. I am So disappointed. We left. White stains on the couch, dirty walls, smelt like urine, no fly wires. My 5 year old daughter said that this place scares me!!! When I confronted the clerk/owner about the fact that we had to abandon the "hotel" we got a response of " it hasn't been renovated, and the Website takes the money and we can't possibly compensate you. Out of our control.
Do not ever stay here!. Go F#!k a Donkey! You ruined Christmas!!!

Not bad at all this place. I arrived late (11.30) and they waited up for me.
Room was very neat and tidy.
My room was at the rear and I couldn't hear any traffic at all.
Good spot for a quick over night error.
