This is a beautiful cemetery full of history and interesting epitaphs. This may have been one of the cemeteries Anne wanders in "Anne of the Island". However ye be warned... There are no hours posted or listed on Google maps but apparently closes around 8 because we got locked in.
Saint Boniface Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral of Saint Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The founder of Manitoba, Louis Riel is buried in the cathedral cemetery. This indeed is one of the most photographed cathedrals in Winnipeg, after knowing its history of the fire and destruction it went through even now it has its royal aura and is very appealing.
Please do not call the phone number listed. It isn't associated with Old Burying Ground any longer. Please contact OBG via email on the website. Thanks so much.

With 4 generations buried here I have been to this cemetery for many years… the history here is really quit amazing, and there are some very unique markers if you’re in to that type of thing. Kudos to the fantastic staff for the rejuvenation and maintenance of this grand historic site. A special thanks to the office staff in their help finding our families “lost” grave.
Cool place to wander around and see some history.
A beautiful and peaceful place for a quiet walk among the ancient dead. Volunteers are on hand for tours by donation. A must see.

We got a “by donation” tour from Geordi, the resident tour guide-slash-groundskeeper and it was the best tour I’ve taken in ages. Fascinating stories, just the right amount of depth, more historic than macabre. Really enjoyable and top notch. If you are at all interested in the history of Halifax, this place should not be missed!

Well I must say that this place is pretty nice. Well maintained and clean. I can say that on several occasions I have spotted a sickly ghoul waltzing around the “park” as he calls it. He sometimes carry’s his old guitar as long as the weather isn’t too hot outside, wouldn’t want it to split the wood. He grimaces and complains about the pain in his old bones. Not sure if he works here or is just a ghoulish fiend using this pristine resting place for leisure. I can say that the ghoul must have had a twist of good fortune as he has been all smiles as of late. I can also say that the ghoul looks very familiar. I remember an Interpol poster I saw on my last trip to Southeast Asia for a wanted man. He looked eerily similar I must say to the ghoulish figure from elmwood cemetery. Anyway nice guy but I feel bad for it when he complains about how the people in his rooming house are melting wires and electronics for copper in the shared communal kitchen of his elmwood rooming house. Must be hard to sleep with all that scrap metal industry going on in his house.
Since it’s elmwood I wonder if I’ll ever run into Doug mcthrill, I hear he just moved to elmwood, somewhere near Talbot and watt.

Anyway nice place for a stroll and I have an uncle, or maybe it’s an aunt? Buried here nice place to pay respects.

They've fixed the rusty fence which has greatly improved the environment. Its a lovely place to visit loved ones lost and take a stroll
What can one say? This truly remarkable historic cemetery right in the middle of downtown Halifax, is WELL worth a visit, even if you pass it every day on your way to work, as many folks do, without giving it more than a passing glance. Has an INSANE number of very historic and interesting headstones to explore, and is also large enough for a quick "retreat" from the hustle and bustle of city life. Very well maintained in addition. We are QUITE fortunate to have such a place so well preserved, in our Fair City.
Little oasis. Calm, quiet, peaceful!! Close to nature. Love it.
We kind of happened across this place, I had heard of it but didn't really realize where it was in Halifax or how cool it really was! It was so neat to walk around and spend time reading about the people who were first generation Canadians. Such a neat and odd atmosphere but stunningly beautiful.

I have lots of relatives here. Grandparents, aunts, granduncles and grandaunts and many many cousins. Peaceful, but older cemetery, frost heaves and vandalism have affected many headstones. I photographed the entire cemetery about 10 years ago. Those photos are on the CanadaGenWeb's Cemetery Project website. As far as I know, it's an offshoot of the St-Boniface Cathedral cemetery, started because they needed more space. Enjoy going there and just walking around.
Lots of relatives here. Beautiful cemetery.

Very old very large cemetary... several improvements over the last few years. Amazed they maintain the grounds as well as they do considering the size and layout

An old, well maintained city cemetery. I have an ancestor buried here. The staff helped me find the grave marker. Very friendly and helpful.
