Reviews

It's serene here, very few people in the winter. The birds were out and trails were frozen under the snow bog trail was frozen too but there's too much construction

FortWhyte is a place that never disappoints. It is equally fun to go during each season and see how much the landscape changes. Kids can have fun looking for bugs and learning about Manitoban animals.

Beautiful winter wonderland. Lots of birds - chickadees, nuthatches, eagles, ducks. Owl prints in the snow?

Great place for Photographing all different kinds of birds.

Follow the short and flat trail. You may see hummingbirds, chickadees, squirrels etc.

Inglewood bird sanctuary is a favourite place of mine. I go to photograph the wildlife and scenery and get some quiet time in nature that's safe and accessible.

Beautiful board walk, visited during early October when there was nice fall colors. Did the trail, probably around 1-1.5 hours worth of walk. Recommended

Well maintained trail with lots of trail markers and info. Enjoyable walk and hike depending on the paths that one takes. The board walks are safe and have lots of room for busier days. It’s a good spot to go for a walk and get some air. Parking is only in Jack Darling Park but the walk over to the conservation area is fairly quick from the park.

Quite the adventure to reach Dutcher Lake on foot. OFSC trails dead end into vast marshes in multiple places. Full of moose and bear tracks. Current maps don't correctly indicate both the collapse and creation of beaver dams.

Beautiful place to go for a walk. Nice little nature retreat right in Mississauga. It is a conservation area though so please be respectful and follow the rules posted on the boards.

Such a beautiful path for nature watching. We took our dog (leashed path) and had a lovely time looking at all the birds. A few of the wooden boards were loose so make sure to watch your step!

Great place for a walk with family. Free parking! Feasible with a stroller but a bit rocky here and there. Outhouse for bathrooms near parking. Picnic tables for lunch too. Beautiful during the fall!

Our must go to every time we are in Vancouver with time to spare to enjoy nature. I can let my 4 year old run to his content and not worry about traffic and people!
At the end of the trail, there’s a playground which my son spent about 30-45 mins playing on.

Very nice. Has a beutiful board walk on the path. Goes under Vimy bridge. (Picture us on the bridge)

Great walk to stretch your legs. Beautiful scenic walk takes about 20-30 min to complete. (If you walk fast). Lots of ducks, geese and the odd deer here and there. Free admission is always a bonus. 5 🌟 +

I recently visited this place and was completely fascinated by the beauty and serenity that this place offers. From the moment I entered, I perceived a feeling of tranquility that is difficult to find elsewhere. This is a real gem for nature lovers and those who wish to immerse themselves in an environment rich in biodiversity. The variety of plants, trees is extraordinary. I loved how each section is precisely curated, allowing visitors to explore and discover the wonders of global flora. Every corner offers a new educational and visual experience. This is also a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Strategically placed benches offer quiet corners to sit and contemplate your surroundings.
In conclusion, I highly recommend a visit to this place to anyone who wishes to spend time immersed in the beauty and diversity of the plant kingdom. It is an experience that I deeply appreciated and that I will certainly repeat.

Awesome trails and lots of greenery. Good place for watching goose, ducks and other animals and a lot of history. Bison viewing is available. Great place to spend weekends and watch sunset. the museum has a lot of taxidermy stuff of owls, bears, bison, deer, cougar, foxes and so on.
Entry tickets for two is about $21 dollars if you are not a member. It is worth it.

We parked at Jack Darling Park, walked along the shoreline path to the Rattray Marsh. A well kept boardwalk through the marsh, easily walkable with plenty of birds, bees and fall colours just starting to emerge. Some shade provided by the tall canopy. Benches are available to take a rest and admire the scenery. A little gem.

Pretty conservation area, quite busy, not big, but i can easily spend 2+hours here in a relaxed pace and sit on the beach watching waves and the toronto skyline. Nice long boardwalks, well maintained. The marsh offers great place to watch for birds and other wildlife.
I parked at the free parking lot at Jack Darling Memorial Park, and walked here in around 10min.

A nice trail walk , beautiful and serene. Easy hike along defined path with wood chips. There is also a shorter trail with boardwalk with disabled access

Wonderful place to walk. Great pathways and boardwalks. It changes every week. If you’re lucky you might spot some wildlife too. Extremely well cared for.

Beautiful lakeside park There is a promenade along the coastline. You can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake. Breathe in fresh air that fills your lungs Listening to the sound of the waves and the wind helps to relax. There is ample free parking. I walked under the shade of a tree. and meditate i feel great if you have free time must visit this place

A lovely little park in Richmond with many accessible and easy trails. Very well maintained, also very kid friendly, there were lots of little pamphlets with info around. Came after the nature house had closed, but will come again to check it out. Picnic tables for people to have a meal and a playground for kids. Overall a great little park in the city, good to get out and get some fresh air in!

Excellent place to experience trail walking and biking. Bison viewing so close to the city is awesome. The animals and arts in the museum are so lively. The flooding boardwalk trail is so nice.

A real hidden gem. Definitely worth a trip, has a nice area of beaches and some rather enjoyable walking paths. The conservation area is really great to experience. Marshlands are an extremely important part of the ecosystem. Public benches, bbqs and washrooms are available to the public. Parking was a little full during our trip today.

I loved seeing the Bison!
The trail was nice, easy and accesible. The trail provided nice information about bison and the indigenous people.

Nice place for walking ,lot of wildlife in there.

Went on the north side of the trail(close to Sterling Lyon Parkway) and it’s a pretty solid trail. Seems like it’s mainly used for bikes since that’s all I saw but it’s a good walking trail too. Didn’t visit the rest of FortWhyte Alive but definitely will in the future.

This was an excellent place to visit. Tucked away from bustling traffic. Only drawback to me, its very loud which spoils natural quiteness.

Completely free and open 7 days a week, this museum is great family fun and gets the kids interested in the outdoors

An excellent trail that’s located right within the city. With a combination of paved and wooden pathways, and small bridges and waterways, it never gets boring. And the trail goes right under the Vimy Memorial Bridge, and that is a sight to see.
Highly recommended.

Such a great place full of so much nature. This place is right in the middle of the city but you feel like you're outside the city.
We have two young kids and they loved it.

Had so much fun! Lots of activities to do like kayaking, paddle boats, biking, etc. There’s also a cafe inside and the staffs were really accomodating. This is the perfect getaway within the city.

Visited here in the winter to try out snowshoeing. We rented from them and also brought our own snowshoes. It was fun going on their trails and on the frozen-over ponds and lakes. We even encountered a couple of deer in their forest trail. After snowshoeing we spent time on theit toboggan run. They have large toboggans on-site and these are free to use once you are already in the park. Of course, it's always nice seeing the bison enclosure. They also have a shop, cafe and a small museum.

It was ok and nice to go for cycling or walk

Used to be a landfill in the 50’s but now is a very nice trail with alot of hard works from a very committed group of super volunteers (including myself) from Dont Mess With the Don

Such a nice quiet area to explore with tons of different wildlife to see. Just being there a short time I saw lots of different birds, some deer close by, fish, and 2 Canadian geese with their new born babies. This wasn't my first time here, but definitely won't be my last!

Gorgeous hiking trail along the Rideau river which loops under the Vimy Memorial Bridge. The trail is super easy and accessible with well marked signs. There are lovely wooden footpaths and park benches with beautiful vistas of the waterway. Well maintained and easily doable in every season. Highly recommended.

We went to buy some new plants and found so many we weren't familiar with! The variety was impressive and the staff is so friendly. The book selection is awesome! The whole place just feels good to be in. I am thankful for this gem.🤗🦋🌻

This is my go-to spot in the summer when I want to get out of the house, have a sunny walk, and maybe try to find some snakes in the tall plants. Very well maintained, quaint, relaxing.
The best time to visit is during the week as it can get busy on a beautiful summer weekend. Keep an eye out for the little fairy houses along the path!

Great to watch the birds at the bird feeders, especially hummingbirds. A few different walking trails. There is also a nature house. Adequate parking, never too full. Kid friendly park as well, there is a small slide and a few other playful outdoor areas.

my favourite place in winnipeg :) walking through the grassy paths in late summer/early fall, the bugs jumping and humming, perfection. if you can find The Special Bench, it’s my most treasured spot in this whole scary town :)

Nice quiet walk to hear different bird sounds. We went in fall on Sunday, it wasn't busy at all. There weren't many birds either, but nice group walk anyways.

Great if you like a self-guided tour. There was a helpful staff there to answer any questions we had. The centre is fairly small with lots of taxidermy and preserved insects inside along with animal pelts and Indigenous regalia. There are lots of native plant species growing along the walking path. The path is quite narrow, so you would have to walk in a line if you are traveling in a group. The museum allows for cutting some of the plant species - specifically the sweet grass and sage. Just make sure you do not disturb plants that are going to seed, and you should be fine. Overall, the experience is quite informal and free, which are the two main reasons I enjoyed my time there.

As always, a great place for a walk. It's a small park but worth the scenery.

The trail is great for morning walks in ☀️ Summer. Nature is very close, it's enjoyable. Newborns of ducks, rabbits and sometimes birds and squirrels make you feel close to nature.

Comprehensive information about prairie flora and fauna. Seeds are available to buy to plant at home. Many native tools and bison skins with various taxidermied birds. Walks through paths in the prairie preserve area give an opportunity for peaceful experience and for inspiration for art. Lots of plant species grown on site for physical reference.

Went to their monarch festival. Staff and volunteers were so friendly and cheerful. Too much to explore in the hour that we were there and the kids were engaged with the various crafts. We will have to come back to see the sheep!

It was amazing, we went with a group for students, and we had ore booked it, so we got a whole tour, it was really nice. We got to see the different kind of plants and flowers and saw turtle and they had a small water bugs playing and viewing for the kids too

I love it because of nature. All the trails, birds sightseeing and sounds. A superb place to visit.

Nice place to walk your dog .

,💕🥰

This place is awesome for mtn biking. Not safe for ppl walking or with little kids . Very steep and rocky. Took off one star for the dog people leaving poo behind. Not cool dog ppl.

This trail is such a gem. I love the calming sound of the water stream. In spring many trees are blooming. The ducks and all kinds of birds are cute to watch. The majority of the ducks that stayed for the winter have moved on but there’s still a few.

Great for hiking solo or running, best for biking. Definitely not for strollers.
Narrow trails all the time. Muddy after a rain fall.
Constant ups and downs.
I heard a wildlife in the bushes but didn't face it.
I parked my car by the Loblaws.
No need for tickets, access for free.

Great trail to walk your dog

Beautiful trails in dense forest, right in the middle of the city. The trails are a bit narrow, and are also shared by bikes, so bit careful. A bonus: abandoned railway track.

Perfect location to launch a mountain bike adventure. The summer riding is amazing. Don't mess with the Don is doing good work to maintain the area. Still a nice winter riding area. Upgrades to the trails are making a significant difference.

Beautiful trailhead hidden away in the busy city. The trees turn amber in late october and the forest turns golden. Saw a very healthy deer as well.

Open house was excellent! Our tour guide, Josh, was very knowledgeable in all that is "Prairie ". Thanks for the milkweed plant! It's going in the ground tomorrow morning! Update. 2023. The milkweed plant that I got from you has finally started growing nicely!

Nice area for a walk. Board walk is really nice. There are water facing benches along the way. Great view of the Rideau river and Barrhaven Vimy memorial bridge. You will see mostly walkers but once in a while you will bump into bikers which can be bit challenging. There is public washroom near parking area.
Finding parking can be bit challenging but if you are willing to walk a bit you can park at Riverside park and go to this trail via bridge.

Great interpretive centre and remnant/restored prairie trails. They also sell rare nature books and host native plant sales. A hidden treasure in Winnipeg.

Great trails for not too fit people to enjoy some time outdoors in nature. A lot of people mentioned this but there are many mountain bikes that share the trails, so do be mindful of that and you won’t have any surprises! There was quite a bit of fungi growing along the trail when we visited in mid-October, which was interesting to see and not pick. If I was more knowledgeable, maybe I’d choose to come here to forage!

This is one of my favourite trails to go through in Toronto. It's easily accessible by transit, but once you're in the woods, you quickly forget the city. There are a couple of beautiful spots to sit and relax. There is also an area with several slopes to have some fun on your bike as well.
Just pay attention for cyclists and understand that we're all sharing the trail. They go pretty fast here but they also generally try to slow down for people walking. There are parts of the trail that is just barely wide enough for one person.

Visited with my daughter and her classmates on a school field trip. The staff there are extremely friendly and fun. We have gone back since to walk the trails. It is a great piece of nature right in the middle of the city. If you enjoy nature and walks in the park I strongly recommend you check this place out
