Very nice theater and a real attraction! Tickets for the different language tours can be purchased directly on the left side of the theater.

An absolutely beautiful building and right in the center plaza. The paintings are stunning and it was cool being able to see the restoration process. Definitely worth the price to go inside. Tour was about 45 minutes.
Our guide seemed a little newer and not as confident with all of the info, but did a great job handling people who didn’t listen very well.
It would be nice if the touring schedule was more easily accessible and if there was an easier way to buy tickets. The box office was only open for 20 minutes before the tour and there was a long line for purchasing for the tour but also shows; we almost missed our tour time.

First time visiting Alajuela Costa Rica. This theatre is a classical building right downtown across from a town square. Beautiful architecture in a great location.

Bueno estuvo bien , solo que no es apta para menores de 14 , sobre todo si van los padres .,para los jóvenes sería penoso . No apta para menores

I read about this theater in the Lonely Planet guide which promised it would be an excellent tour, and it was! The theater is grand and gives a glimpse into the culture and history of the area. The knowledgeable tour guide and the clever surprise made it fun and fascinating. Please note that English tours are given at 1 and 4 o’clock while Spanish tours are given at 2 and 3 o’clock. We had people in our group from Algeria, France, China, and California, so it was extra fun. This was well worth the time and the money.

Even if you don't have time to do the tour pop into the foyer and have a look round or grab a coffee in the lovely cafe. Definitely worth it

Wer nicht ins Theater reingehen möchte, kann zumindest am Abend herkommen und auch der Beleuchtung erfreuen.
Davor gibt es einen kleinen Park mit Denkmal, das Gran Hotel und etwas weiter um die Ecke gibt es mehr zu sehen.

Beautiful building. The tour is inexpensive, the guides do an amazing job and the interior is amazing. Definitely worth it.
La obra de teatro "Destino capital" fue excelente. El lugar excelente, así como la atención de los funcionarios.
A must see! It's gorgeous and has so much history. We were fortunate enough to have a couple of actors as our guides. They were hilarious and informative. I got so many beautiful pictures

Beautiful place to visit. The tours are really nice. My only negative complaint is that the tour guide (female 6/18) was not nice to the locals and super friendly to the expats (specially Europeans and Americans). Her English was okay and it felt like she was drill in the locals to speak in English when she herself had a lot of room for growth. The make guide was hilarious and super friendly.
Historic theater in San José. If you are visiting the city you might want to check if there's any concert of your interest. The Orquesta Filarmónica of Costa Rica plays there often, highly recommended! The pictures were taken from the 3rd floor!
While the theatre is beautiful and well worth a visit, make sure to avoid the two row of seating (4th balcony). We couldn’t see ⅓ of the stage without standing and the seating and space were insufficient and uncomfortable. Beware, there is also no air conditioning in the building… 🥵

Historical spot with most of the original architecture intact. It's a gorgeous place and worth spending some time watching a play. They also have a cafe and it's a cute little spot with a variety of options. This spot is great for a date or just a night out.

Best underground theatre in San Jose
El mejor lugar para visitar, tienen cafetería y el teatro es acogedor. Además de la maravillosa atención de sus dueños.
This place is really nice, people who works there are kind. But I was in 4th floor, I felt unsafety if an emergency ocurrs there is no way to run, the AC wasn't turned on or at least I didn't feel it. The vast majority of the people nearby was joking about how hard is to try to be seated without touching everyone and an event of earthquake we all would die. Thanks God, everything went well.
Súper agradable, inclusivo, artístico, con bebidas y comidas. Excelente para disfrutar una noche de teatro u otras actividades artísticas que ofrece el espacio.
Fui a ver una obra llamada "Tres Relatos antes de la media noche" de Sharon García Cavallini. Excelente puesta en escena con referencias metafóricas súper bien creadas.

Obra Rajodka buenísima
Les invito para que entre el 14 y el 31 de julio del 2022 vean en el Teatro 1887 la obra: Esos tiempos del después. Lleguen temprano, de jueves a sábado a las 7pm y domingos a las 5pm. Lleguen al menos 15 minutos antes, porque la puerta del teatro se cierra al empezar la obra y después no pueden entrar.
Lindo y cómodo lugar para disfrutar del teatro.

I attended the "Festival Folclórico, "Frutos de Nuestra Tierra" here in June 2022. One comment: the lighting was absolutely horrible. Poor kids ... they gave a great performance, but we couldn't see it. Only one spot had appropriate ighting, where I took these photos.

Bad Popcorn, and too little space..
Un teatro pequeño que acogedor, se puede parquear en la calle como buen tico o si quieres estar más seguro por la cruz roja queda un parqueo 24 horas abierto, el teatro tiene buenos asientos y en cada fila hay campo para que esten 15 personas bien comodas, solamente el tema de que si va alguien con baston pues se podria sentar adelante, o inclusive yo medi buen espacio entre los escalones y podrian incluir un apoyador en cada escalón para las personas que tengan alguna dificultad de abrir o levantar mucho la pierna, por lo demás una experiencia muy tuanis.
Super buen lugar para reír y olvidarse de la rutina.
Solo he ido una vez, pero me pareció muy agradable. Además, es uno de los pocos espacios nuevos para eventos.

Las butacas son algo incómodas, se percibe mal olor dentro del teatro. Es rescatable la labor que hacen por ser el único en su clase en Heredia.
El lugar es muy agradable con varios ambientes, se puede visitar con la pareja o toda la familia. Las opciones de comida son variadas y muy buenas, en especial las bebidas. Incluso, es posible conseguir un recuerdo con las personas que ofrecen algunas artesanías a la salida. En resumen vale la pena visitarlo

Loved it, very classical looks and great acoustics, the resident band is just awesome! It's the national philharmonic orchestra, we saw them at the Queen tribute. Bathrooms are a little underwhelming but hey this building was built really long ago, I think remodeling the bathrooms could compromise the structure so I'm fine with them as they are.
Nice, kind of historical place...but the equipment access is mayor problem!!!👎

Small and popular as its name calls it. This is an amazing place to enjoy events from music to theater and arts. No parking, and on street park is abusive in illegal prices for parking on the street. Look for near by official parking spots or take a cab.
It is not comfortable. It also has no air conditioning so it gets really hot with the show lights.
Attended the Filarmonica of Costa Rica concert interpreting Iron Maiden songs and was not disappointed. We had seats in row H and they were great. I don't think there is a bad seat in the place. The ushers were very accommodating to handicapped persons.
Very well known in CR, despite the fact of being a very old building, the place is easy to access, seats are comfortable, great sound, there was no A/C though, so it was very warm. It has no parking lot, so it's recommended to arrive in Uber or taxi, there are some parking lots around (3 blocks away) however the area doesn't feel safe to walk late at night, our function ended at 9pm and there were cops every 2 blocks, although I'm not sure if it was because of Easter, and there were some suspicious people walking around, if you choose to do so, be pending of your belongings at all times.

El espacio es alternativo, el piso no tiene desnivel , por lo que si uno se sienta atrás podría tener problemas para el visionado de la obra. No obstante, los montajes que se ofrecen son una alternativa a la cartelera teatral convencional. Cerca del lugar hay múltiples opciones para comer.

Small public Theatre at the main downtown Alajuela. It is an old building that has been remodeled for artistic and cultural activities. It has no parking. All activities are totally free.
A beautiful theater in downtown San Jose. It can get a bit warm due to the age of the theater and it not having AC so wear something light.
It's beatiful and well kept. It is a good space for culture and relax.
