I think one of the best castles to visit in the Dordogne!

Remember there is a parking lot at the top, almost at the enterance!

Very enjoyable walk up a steep hill with lovely early century places, you can drive if you want to, at the top apart from the Chateau is a couple of bars and shop. Really lovely views.
A stunning 1000 year old castle smack dab in the middle of the 100 years war. Looking down on the Dordogne River, and across the fields, with several other castles in view, this historically significant castle is not one to miss. Surely you know of Eleanore of Aquitaine, King Richard and the rest of her royal family, they all lived here.

Château de Beynac is a particularly interesting and beautiful "castle". The vistas out to the Dordogne are amazing, especially when the balloons are soaring overhead.
Eindrucksvoll und abgelegen, trotzdem touristisch.

Mont Saint-Michel was beautiful! A tourist attraction indeed, but worth driving for! All stories of history are well-found in this extraordinary town on the edge of Normandy. Again, a lot of people travel to this site to see the spectacular view and old streets. There are lovely souvenir shops and (pricy) restaurants. Worth visiting once in your life! The bus ride across the bridge is free, we took it towards it. However the hike back to the parking spot was also incredible!

What a place, spectacular, jaw dropping from every angle. The cite is free to enter, wander freely through narrow streets enjoy the buzz. There are many restaurants, shops and bars plus the cathedral and the chateau and ramparts, the latter of which attract a small fee. You could take photographs all day long, I've just attached a few
Great place to visit, lots of medieval buildings to see. The wall city is quite compact with lots of quaint narrow streets, making it easy to navigate yourself around. The narrow streets also give lots of shaded areas to escape from the hot temperatures. There are also lots of restaurants and bars or ice-cream parlours for either lunch or just somewhere to have a relax with a drink or ice cream. All the restraunts were either with shades or lovely shaded gardens. We paid the 9.50 euros for the medieval villa and walked along the tops of the castle walls, which gave great views of the old city within the walls and panoramic view looking over the old town of carcassonne. A memorable day. It would be fantastic at night with the lights on.

What wonderful & magical place to visit.
The walk there is awesome. We spotted Spoonbills & Egrets on the walk.
There is a shuttle to and from there. Lap or handbag size dogs can travel on it too.
Every step anyway you take leads to surprise & wonder.
Restaurants there also.

Visited in August so unfortunately was really busy and took 1 hour to climb to abbey as line moved slowly. I would recommend visiting off season. Well worth a visit, spectacular and an amazing building. Shuttle buses run every 10 minutes between car park area and abbey and vice versa. Didn't get a chance to explore city below, appeared to be souvenir and food stores.
There is a jaw dropping moment when you first cross the drawbridge and walk up the cobbled street. You are transported back to medieval times and, although it's quite commercial and "touristy", the architecture has been lovingly restored and maintained! There are many shops, some selling very good quality art and some selling tourist trinkets and everything in between! There's a wonderful choice of restaurants to choose from and, surprisingly, very reasonably priced! A great place to wander around for a few hours!

Well worth a visit. All guides and the audio tour are available in English. If you're a history buff you'll enjoy learning about the castles story and if not, there are amazing views of the Dordogne to enjoy!
The little town on the island with its beach, walls, narrow streets, stairs and view surely deserves five stars, but it was so crowded in the summer we could barely walk around. Perhaps an off-season visit would offer a more genuine impression.

🌟 Mont Saint-Michel is an absolute gem! This enchanting island abbey is a must-visit in France. From the awe-inspiring architecture and rich history to the breathtaking bay views, it's like stepping into a fairy tale. The tidal changes are a natural wonder, and the local cuisine is a treat. The staff's dedication to preservation shines through, making it a memorable and well-maintained destination. Don't miss it! 🏰🌊🍽️
Very nice fortress, with camp spots all around.
Amazing place of spectacular heritage. My seven year old thought we’d gone to Hogwarts. It is crowded however so expect waits for restaurants, toilets, shuttle buses etc … and if it’s low tide go play around on the massive sandbank!

This medieval city is so unique with its castle within a castle structures. It still breaths the medieval times, although almost all buildings have been modified to fit shops or restaurants.

They might have gone a bit more withholding on that part, that's why it's a 4 for me, as I like the fact it's being used, but not everywhere they took in account the history and authenticity.

Worth a visit you ask? Definitely!!

Steep climbing to get to the castle. Make sure to go early or low temperatures. 11,50 euro entry per adult is ok, there's enough to see. Guided tour with your own telephone by scanning qr codes.

I cannot recommend seeing this beautiful Abbey enough! It is magnificent. Make sure you bring a water bottle you can refill and bring snacks in case the restaurants are too crowded. If you do some research on the history before hand, it gives you the background you need to truly enjoy the experience
Amazing medieval city and castle. Had a quick visit but would need more time to really appreciate it. You can walk around inside the city for free but you have to pay to go inside the castle. Wonderful history to take in everywhere you look. There is a car park which we were lucky to find a space in during August, as the sign said it was full.

Nice place to visit. Old town (cite) is amazing and the whole city is beautiful. I recommend going to the castle if you like such type of stroll. Waiting around the cite, the city center, along the river is a very interesting and relaxing way of spending time. As in France in general, take care of the timings for meals. Pretty much closes down at 2pm, reopens at 7pm and close down again at 10pm

We did not enter the historical citadel, we just wandered around the exterior area and visited a restaurant for lunch.

It's all been very well restored and we had a great time. Amazing views from the entry / bus stop area as well as how spectacular the castle is.

Worth noting it was very busy so if you don't like crowds you're better off visiting this place in the off season.

Krasna, pekne opravena pevnost, ktera dominuje mestu Belfort.

We spent 3 hours at the Mont and made it to the top... but it is a lot of stairs up and down when you are there and even more in the Abbey. We could have spent longer, but we were on a schedule. It is one of those places that you have to see to understand and get the picture of how people had to live here.

My suggestion is to be there at opening. We were there at opening and had a great parking spot and caught the second shuttle, so the wait was very short. As we were leaving, 3 hours later, there were so many people coming up that it was difficult to get down the "ramp" through the shops and to the exit gate.

This would be an extremely difficult place to visit with kids who need strollers and aren't used to climbing stairs. Parents need to be prepared to carry their kids, if they get tired.

We had our tickets when we got there and it made it really easy. We were moved in the abbey entrance into the building, and people without tickets had to go wait in another area to purchase their tickets.

The bathrooms at the visitor center near the shuttle loading entrance are free and nice. The people T the visitor center can also give you your map and Abbey ticket too, which will make it much faster when you get to the Mont.
Steep climb up from the river but we’ll worth the climb. Audio guides available from QR codes, not the easiest to follow but informative.
Amazing views of the surrounding area.
Couple of nice restaurants outside of the chateau itself.

Absolutely stunning walled castle. Definitely get the audio tour. About a 30 min walk from the train station. The town inside the wall is very touristy..best to head back to the lower town for meals, etc. Just remember that many restaurants close at 2pm.

We didn't have advanced tickets, but arrived when it opened at 10am and got in without any problems.

A great walking experience around a fortress that has seen lots of action in its life. You can see the additions that have been made by various military leaders.
Mächtige Festung in gewaltiger Gebirgskulisse - beeindruckend!

A solid piece of military past. Eerie, almost spooky. It is safe to wonder around especially inside the underground tunnels and staircases. It's pitch black. In the darkness you find an underground large room surrounded with a narrow corridor. What could this have served under the earth, carved into the mountain? Please post if you find out. While exploring cold drops dripping on you from the rocks. Bring a flashlight!

So ab 300€ aufwärts.

francese. Si prosegue solo a piedi e quasi subito,
sulla sinistra troviamo una postazione fortificata
risalente al periodo dell'ultima guerra mondiale.
La carrareccia prosegue con leggero dislivello
sino a incontrare Fort Tabourde
