I have been studying at LFAS for four terms with the aim of becoming a full time professional artist.

I have only got positive things to say about the studio, it has a supportive, inclusive and fun atmosphere.

For me it’s biggest strength is its variety of teaching and tutors. The tutors have been trained in ateliers and art schools across the globe, such as Florence, Russia and the UK. And the nice thing about this is that you are able to cherry pick the ideology and methods that work for you from the different tutors.

This ultimately leads to the school producing well rounded and adaptable artists that have a strong foundation that they can then build upon when they graduate.
Stephen was an absolutely amazing and wonderful teacher for my daughter, who applied to a few very prestigious undergraduate Fashion Design Colleges in the USA and Europe. She worked with Stephen for over 6 months, and we are certain that Stephen's involvement in this process played a crucial role in her acceptance to the best design college in the USA. He was very patient and creative with the entire portfolio pieces. My daughter and I are very grateful to have had Stephen on our team. She loved working with Stephen!

I felt compelled to write a review again for Art Social Club, as it’s been over 2 years since I’ve been coming here and as a regular, seeing my own progress has been very exciting! Jana offers a unique and immersive creative experience for artists of all levels. Under the guidance of Jana, I've personally experienced significant growth in my artistic abilities and unlocked my inner creativity. Jana's dedication to her students and her individualised approach have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making the club a place for mindfulness and creativity, whether alone or with friends. Her impressive concept is accessible to all grades of artists and creatives, and her investment in each individual is truly rare and commendable. I’ve been to so many art classes in London, and the studio's quirky and chilled ambiance adds to the overall unique experience and makes it the best. The art classes are educational and enjoyable, providing a great opportunity for personal growth and creativity. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, Jana's workshops are a must-visit for anyone looking to explore their artistic side in a fun and supportive environment. Thank you, Jana, for your talent, care, and for making art fun!

Had the best evening here in the most beautiful studio - the painting was so meditative. Jana is amazing & so kind - thank you!
Had a Christmas wreath making session with Sue at Inky Owls. Excellent thing to do and really pleased with my wreath. Sue was patient, informative and super helpful throughout the session. Highly recommended. Will be booking in for next year as soon as possible!
Great fun today at Inky Owl Retreats with my daughter and granddaughter. Sue made us so welcome. Beautiful decoratings and memories made x
Thank you so much to Sue at Inky Owls.
Myself and my friends had the most amazing evening wreath making. Don't see myself as someone who can be creative so totally exceeded my expectations. Can’t wait to come back again 🥰
I had a wonderful experience with Sue at Inky Owl retreat. A few friends and I attended one of Sue’s Christmas wreath making classes. The venue is situated in the most beautiful secret garden. The wreaths are created with natural plants grown in the garden. Sue took her time to present to us how to create each wreath and embraced our unique ideas. She is very knowledgable and taught up lots of new skills along the way. What a wonderful place full of passion and knowledge. It was lovely and warm and she was the hostess with the mostest, offering delicious hot chocolate and mince pies. My friends and I felt extremely comfortable and had a fabulous evening together. If you are looking for anything creative for yourself, friends, or for your children, get in contact with Sue as you will not regret it. We are excited to visit again soon. Thanks Sue!
Just had an absolutely lovely evening making Christmas wreaths. Sue was so lovely and helped us all make some lovely creations in her beautiful garden studio. Thank you so much

I organised for Stephen to come in to our Dell Technologies office to run a group painting exercise with a large team (80 people). We had five groups over the course of three hours. Stephen was fantastic. He made the experience fun for all involved and we ended up with a masterpiece which we will hang in the office. Thank you!

I enjoyed the print making workshop but would not recommend the drawing and painting class, they do not offer enough guidance and direction for begginers as they claim on their website.

Could not rate this highly enough! Jana is so brilliant and the class was wonderful. We went on a work social and although people were nervous to begin with, we all really enjoyed it. Everyone came out of their shell, thanks to Jana's encouragement and help.
The location is beautiful, we'd all go back and some of us are currently looking to book for personal events! Thank you Jana, we'll be back soon!

Recently completed 2 courses back to back (beginners in acrylics and Abstract for beginners). As a complete beginner, i was quite nervous but Stephen was great (knowledgeable and friendly) and really encouraging. The classes are small (max 5 people), and i found this worked well for me when i got a little frustrated with my progress (everyone was so supportive & friendly).
I've learnt so much and i've just signed up for another course in Jan :) Fully recommend - great for beginners like me and those with more experience.

Wonderful gem of a gallery, featuring contemporary works and a serious contribution to the art world. I really enjoyed the work on show and as an artist I really enjoy the gallery’s enthusiasm and professionalism. today’s ‘artists talks’ were a real insight into the work on display and thoroughly welcome.

Really enjoyed the Painting for Beginners course and would recommend to anyone new to or not very confident in painting techniques. Stephen created a friendly and relaxed environment and tailored the course to what the group wanted to learn. I loved that there was a small group of us and feel I learned a lot. I plan to try Stephen's other courses in future. Thank you!

I attended a total of 3 evening courses - a drawing one with Zoe, an oil paint one with Nicholas and a watercolour one with Natasha. I found that the quality of the course, and therefore my enjoyment, really depended on the professionalism of the teacher. Zoe was great, going around students to give great advice. Nicholas spent a lot of time talking about himself to specific students and didn't really take the time to come around everyone to give feedback. And with Natasha, the class was just very theoretical. She refers to art masters, asking students to reproduce some of their works, which makes it really not fun for beginners who just want to have fun. This is maybe to hide a lack of teaching skills or knowledge as she wasn't able to give personalized feedback or explain concepts in a simple way.

Had such a great evening with Jana at art social club, I’ve not felt than calm and relaxed in months. Great cozy atmosphere as well! No experience necessary at all, Jana is an expert, super knowledgeable and so helpful. We will definitely be coming back. Beautiful cats are always a bonus too! Thanks Jana for such a great calming experience.
The structured approach to learning the craft of drawing and painting offered by London Fine Art Studios is, for me, an essential foundation to my growing confidence in making art. All of the tutors I have had in my two years of studying part time here are excellent artists and teachers, with the ability to give insightful critique, advice and encouragement. The ratio of tutors to students is great and the setup, often with widely varying experience within a class, means that there is a great deal to learn from sharing one’s art journey with the other students. It is a wonderful community to be a part of. I cannot recommend London Fine Art Studios highly enough.

Fantastic free art gallery, with a surprisingly high quality level of art work in the summer exhibition that rivalled the summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts I went to a couple of weeks ago in London, great curating! I would definitely recommend this art gallery. Went here after a visit to the pen museum and 1000 Trades independent pub, so it made a fabulous day out today despite the rain and I will be back soon to see what other exhibitions are on.

I visited on a Saturday afternoon. The gallery is quiet and modern-looking on the inside. The staff were very friendly and encouraging, and chatted happily about pieces they personally enjoyed from the current exhibition (their Summer Exhibition featuring mixed media artwork). There is a lift as well as stairs. Toilets are available. The shop on the ground floor has something for everyone, from cute postcards to tote bags to ceramics and jewellery. The shop accepts cards. Admission is free but a £5 donation is encouraged, which can be paid in cash or by scanning a QR code which directs you to pay online.

Went to Stephen for some one-to-one tuition as I am self taught in portraiture and wanted some ideas on how to further develop my own style. Stephen has a wealth of knowledge, is sensitive and very skilled in facilitation. I came away with more space and possibility to try new things out. I attended a one day drawing class with Stephen first which was a very enjoyable day. The atmosphere he creates uplifts your ability from the get go, so he subtly pushes your potential by seemingly doing nothing. Highly recommended!

Great small gallery over three floors in a nice old part of Birmingham. I saw the Prize Exhibition 2022 and spent ages being fascinated by the remarkable array of different styles and media. The quality of the work was extremely impressive. Well worth a visit. Admission is free but the experience certainly deserves a donation.

Surprised to read these positive reviews. I enrolled for a term and I felt I wasted £300 - I didn't learn much and the teacher was unprofessional. They do not allow you to have a free trial, and I can see why. My experience might be due to the teacher. He acted like he hated his job and was bitter about life and his career. He kept talking about himself and showed little interest in his students and their development. I'd like to question his skills too as he would give advice that made no sense - such as that we should only paint really fast, like Monet would. I give 2 stars because he was occasionally funny and the building is good. I would not go back, save your money (or research the class and teacher you pick!)
Thoroughly enjoyed it and grew. Did the beginners course for acrylics. Never done it. Always curious. Nervous about the material, the process and the techniques. Turns out everyone was in that boat. Phew. Stephen was engaging, fun, informative and supportive. The environment and approach made you feel like an artist, not a rookie. I learnt about terminology, hacks, and styles. Also got a bonus experiment with oil on canvas. Would recommend. Also, don't slack on the paints. I did. I ended going back to the art shop 3 times.

A small gallery in the Jewellery Quarter, it is near St Paul's Square. They have exhibitions on. Vote if you want for your favourite artwork, voluntary donation. The gallery has a history going back a few centuries, and was formerly on New Street until the end of the 20th century .

This used to be a charming Victorian house with the souls of many artists. Unfortunately it had to change into a modernised block thanks to the signature we all gathered (because the developed wanted to close it up). It is an asset to the community. More clarity in its management would be beneficial.
My daughter attends regularly as an after school club and son to the holiday clubs. They both love how Sue integrates real art technique into fun activities. They learn so much and are keen to go more!! They are occupied for hours, and this is the hardest task especially with my son. I can never get them to leave. The art work they produce is phenomenal!!!
I have also been to adult experimental drawing classes with Sue and again have learnt so much in a very short space of time. Sue always makes sure they’re are plenty of drinks and snacks available and she usually incorporates mindfulness and relaxation which really helps 🥰
I have enjoyed Sue's experimental art classes, in her beautiful garden studio for many months now.
Sue is a great teacher and has given me back my love of art. It's 'my time to relax'.
Both of my boys have been to the holiday workshops (which are great!) and my eldest son had a series of 1 to 1 sessions which gave him the guidance and confidence boost he needed for his GCSE Art this year.
I thoroughly recommend Inky Owls Retreat for young and old and I am looking forward to attending one of the watercolour classes during the summer break.
I went to Inky Owl’s Retreat a little while ago when I had retired and wanted to get back into drawing and art work. Sue’s approach to tutoring was very supportive and empathetic and the course of six lessons was interesting, challenging and really helpful. The welcome and facilities at the Retreat are superb. There is a supportive, mindful aspect to Sue’s teaching and everything is very individual and pitched at the right level to make her students develop their own practice and skills. I would wholeheartedly recommend the courses at The Inky Owl Retreat, there is a great variety of arts and craft courses, all held in a beautiful setting. Since going to Sue’s drawing course, I’ve developed my art in a different medium but her course gave me the confidence to get starting again and develop some new skills.
The best art school in London! Excellent teaching and watching pupil's progression from beginner to artist is amazing. Once you're part of the community you'll never want to leave!
Since studying at LFAS I’ve learnt so much! A great, relaxed atmosphere to improve your technical abilities. If you want to learn to draw or paint using traditional methods this is the studio to go to.

The course tutors were very good. However the premises were of concern as there was a lot of flammable material around in and around the basement classroom and poor fire drill information/ equipment. 8 lesson course with the welder out of use fully for 1 lesson and ran out of gas on 2 other lessons. Small classroom/ limited bench space which sometimes made working on the project very difficult. We all managed to get our projects completed
Absolutely loved doing a colour course with Stephen at Art Courses. It was great to try painting in oils (which I'd never done before) and try a different way of working than usual to challenge myself. Stephen is really approachable and gives good feedback and direction. I enjoyed the class very much, it was fun and not too formal or pretentious. If you are looking to improve your skills in a friendly environment, this is the place. Hoping to do join another course in the summer. Would definitely recommend!

Wow! What a fantastic evening. We had the most incredible time at Jana’s beautiful studio last night and still feeling the glow of the wholesome activity this morning. She is an attentive and engaging teacher, and we all left feeling relaxed and accomplished. None of us had picked up a paint brush in a good few years, but our end results were all something we could feel proud to hang up on our walls at home. We all loved it. Thank you so much, Jana. We will certainly be back for more.

Such a lovely Gallery to visit, the standard of work is exceptional and I loved the variety of artistic mediums too. The prices for the art are really good and reasonable as well the prices of the arts and craft in the Craft Shop. The shop has some lovely handmade items too from local crafts people. It is free entry so is a must visit gallery in Birmingham!
Wonderful. I've never painted or drawn since I was 12 many decades ago. I went to a beginners class then on to a more advanced class. The teachers are patient talented and teach you everything from mixing colours, applying the paint perspective etc. After 2 years I'm not bad.
HSOA is a wonderful place to visit, I have visit many schools over the Years & I consider HSOA the best! The quality of work the students create is truly remarkable! Credit has to be given to Isabel, the teachers & the staff, who are always working hard to make the school the best! The teachers are very concentrated on the work in helping students, so be a little patient & enjoy the Cafe, they will talk with visitors & guests after classes! Absolutely love the place, Good Luck to everybody fortunate enough to attend the school! Yours sincerely, (Latestbanda expecting everything now on Youtube)[email protected]

I have completed my first beginners course & now signed up for a second - amazing teachers & a very friendly environment - a must for any amateur artists 🎨
I took the beginners 10 week drawing class and absolutely loved every lesson. Our tutor Zoë was wonderful, the lesson structure, the teaching style, the facilities and my peers were fantastic. Would highly recommend. I’ll be coming back for a beginners paint course.
Been taking classes part time for several years at HSOA. Painting, ceramics, jewellery. Lovely place, very talented teachers at very reasonable prices. A jewel in north London. Come and see for yourself. Lovely café as well where you can enjoy exhibited arts for students and local artists.

At first it seemed like a good school, but an incident occurred which can only be summed up as gross negligence. They have children in the school and then allow almost naked models to be painted in the building. My child was exposed to seeing a naked model. Avoid at all costs.

Did an introductory course to welding for artists, teacher was amazing and within very little time we where all making sculptures! Amazing - also transferred the skill onto my classic mini, and even repaired a friends handrail! Haha! Thanks guys and look forward to doing the stainless steel one!
I attended the Introductory Welding Class for Artists, and had a really great afternoon! I learnt so much in a short time, with the help of a really friendly and inspirational tutor. The session covered Mig, Tigg, Arc and Spot welding, grinding and finishing. I have always been a little afraid of welding, but after attending the course it is definitely something I would like to do more of in the future!
Brilliant facilities - great group and tutor

I took this course last year and it ignited a passion in me for working with copper. The tutor (Robert Worley) is lovely, knowledgeable and openly engaged with all levels of student. The facilities are great and I love their studio location on the river. I have taken several classes at LSW (bronze- casting, pewter casting and welding) and all have been first-rate. Plus I have met some lovely other people in the group - it is a great bonding experience creating alongside others. I have never left a course without holding something I feel proud of making, and energised by sharing in the surrounding creativity.
Well where do I begin! This is a fantastic sculpture workshop fit for novice and expert alike. The courses are excellent - value for money, specialist tutors and clear achievable projects that are completed in the course so you always have something to take away. The atmosphere is great - welcoming and definitely not intimidating. The courses are fun, practical and confidence building. I would highly recommend going on a course here or signing up to become a member. Great community workshop.

I joined the bronze casting course which took place over 6 saturdays, each session about 6 hours long. I think it has been one of the most interesting creative experience I’ve had...Giles, our instructor, is really friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Given the fact that he is a professional artist/ sculptor himself, he has a great eye and is very instinctive in regards of the execution of a design. We went through the whole process step by step; the pace is not intense at all and very relaxed, but somehow we managed to cover a lot and a lot of students ended up working on more than one piece of work. The studio itself is bright and clean, with beautiful views over the Thames. Giles kept a very nice atmosphere in the studio. I just thought my time here was very enlightening, and also therapeutic! The workshop is open source and offers membership which allows members to work on their projects in their own time, for a fee. I have since signed up and it’s been great. Highly recommended.
The first course I did with LSW was the bronze casting workshop. It. Was. INCREDIBLE! I was a complete beginner in sculpture but have a background in art. People on my course ranged from one other artist, a retired doctor, a woman who I think was a healer, a designer/architect, a hobbyist, a guy who came all the way over from Singapore and was learning the skills to be able to go back and set up his own studio to teach it, and more – it’s a real mix and they cater for everyone.
I can’t believe how much they packed in and taught us over 6 days/2 weekends, and we still had enough time to work on our pieces and develop them so we had an awesome bronze artwork or functional item to take home at the end. The teachers throw so much energy and expertise into supporting and teaching you; nothing was too much. They really helped me develop my idea.
You get a lot of bronze included in the course, which is awesome, and if you want to make something big you can always top it up at cost price (they are great like that). I learnt so many techniques, processes and how to use a range of awesome tools. Everything was so hands on that I felt the training really sunk in. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.
At least 3 people out of the small group on my course had done numerous courses there before so that felt like a stunning review in my opinion as I began. I’m now trying to decide between a mould-making course, maybe some copper sheet sculpture or a furniture building class next. Maybe once I get the hang of it all I’ll become a member as it’s an open access workshop too and then you get access to all the machines and tools etc, not to mention the space.

I feel like we really learned quite a lot over the two days of the course. We'll do the glazing course as well now, continuing our pottery adventure. Thank you LSW!

Excellent tuition tailored to your projects, friendly atmosphere and great value.
The London Sculpture Workshop is a gem of a place I totally recommend! I loved the atmosphere there so much I attended all of the short courses they offer. Inspiring tutors – all practising artists, a great variety of classes - from metal work to bronze casting or wood furniture design, in super well equipped workshops. There I met students with very different profiles and objectives, from practising artists willing to upgrade their skill-set or experiment with new processes & materials, to absolute beginners wanting to just “do things with their hands”. They also offer a open access scheme to a versatile metal and wood workshop where you can develop your own creative projects in your own rhythm, once you feel confident to go autonomous.

I started taking Portfolio Preparation classes with Nick in September 2017 and came to his studio quite lost as to how to go about it and what kind of work universities were looking for.

The studio is a wonderful place to be able to work in and Nick was very patient with me throughout the whole art school application process. I struggled when it came to the fundamentals of art, not having been taught that well in school and he guided me through each of them and also brought art history into the mix of those classes as well. As soon as I would come in he would get me to start drawing or painting something straight away and he has an amazing library of resources which helped trigger my conceptual mind when I was stuck for ideas.

Nick says on his website that he has a 100% success rate when it comes to helping get his students into their choice of art school and that is very much true. With his help, constant encouragement, and a fantastic reference he wrote for me, I managed to get into my first choice Uni!

Thank you so much Nick for your time, patience and for all your help getting me through this!

Nick creates a great atmosphere in his classes. I always have a great time just exploring different painting styles. The flexible nature of the classes is the Besr thing.
I've been going to Nick's Art classes since November and I'm delighted to have found such a fantastic studio! Nick provides a comfortable and inspired space where you can feel at ease to practice or experiment with paint and painting materials. Nicks guidance is great however don't expect him to hold your hand during lessons! You must be ready to throw yourself into painting! I would recommend this to anyone!
PS: the lunch on Saturdays is great!
Just opened! Many well-known and loved teachers. Under the benign control of Ann Witheridge, fondly remembered by a generation of students of the Charles Cecil School in Florence, and the Lavender Hill Studios.
I think Hampstead School of Art is wonderful. I have been going to classes there for 7 years and am now doing the Foundation Diploma. I have gained an enormous amount and become far more creative. The tutors are very skilled and experienced and able to guide and develop everyone from the beginners to professional artists. It is very friendly and there is always something new and interesting happening. It really is a very special place.
We have found the HSA a real asset to the area and beyond. They have provided a great deal of help to our library directly with pictures and equipment and indirectly by supporting our events. The school is an amazingly efficient place with happy students supported by keen staff. If things are not perfect, remember it's a charity - the intentions are good and honest. We know, as we are the same.

I did the Foundation course in 2013 and then went on to do the Certificate in Sculpture and Drawing. Had a fantastic experience and learnt some valuable technical skills - would highly recommend them. It has a very friendly, personal and relaxed feel to the place - the staff work above and beyond for the students and tutors. The Foundation course is the most practical one I've found out there. You can go onto a BA knowing you have a basics down and a pool of skills to pull from which will serve you well later down the line. There's a regular amount of contact time with the tutors on both courses and it's located near several art galleries (small and large) where we had regular visits.

The Art Academy offer courses on a wide-variety of art topics, from drawing, to sculpture, to digital manipulations and digital art. They also cater for all levels, which is great for me as a complete art-novice.

The courses are available in the evening time which is great for after work art-learning.

I'm taking the beginner drawing class, the teacher is friendly and helpful, and all the people in the class I'm in are also fun and nice which is important to keep the atmosphere free of stress and pressure.

I had a brilliant time at the Saturday art class. I'm a beginner to painting but I felt completely at ease in the studio. We learnt about techniques for using acrylic paint and I was really pleased with my first painting. The teacher, Nick Malone, is an artist and he made the topic lots of fun. I met some really nice people amongst the other students and I'm really looking forward to my next session. It's also great to be able to pay as I go, I work some weekends so I couldn't commit to a course.
