I attended the Introductory Welding Class for Artists, and had a really great afternoon! I learnt so much in a short time, with the help of a really friendly and inspirational tutor. The session covered Mig, Tigg, Arc and Spot welding, grinding and finishing. I have always been a little afraid of welding, but after attending the course it is definitely something I would like to do more of in the future!

Brilliant facilities - great group and tutor

I took this course last year and it ignited a passion in me for working with copper. The tutor (Robert Worley) is lovely, knowledgeable and openly engaged with all levels of student. The facilities are great and I love their studio location on the river. I have taken several classes at LSW (bronze- casting, pewter casting and welding) and all have been first-rate. Plus I have met some lovely other people in the group - it is a great bonding experience creating alongside others. I have never left a course without holding something I feel proud of making, and energised by sharing in the surrounding creativity.

Well where do I begin! This is a fantastic sculpture workshop fit for novice and expert alike. The courses are excellent - value for money, specialist tutors and clear achievable projects that are completed in the course so you always have something to take away. The atmosphere is great - welcoming and definitely not intimidating. The courses are fun, practical and confidence building. I would highly recommend going on a course here or signing up to become a member. Great community workshop.

I joined the bronze casting course which took place over 6 saturdays, each session about 6 hours long. I think it has been one of the most interesting creative experience I’ve had...Giles, our instructor, is really friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Given the fact that he is a professional artist/ sculptor himself, he has a great eye and is very instinctive in regards of the execution of a design. We went through the whole process step by step; the pace is not intense at all and very relaxed, but somehow we managed to cover a lot and a lot of students ended up working on more than one piece of work. The studio itself is bright and clean, with beautiful views over the Thames. Giles kept a very nice atmosphere in the studio. I just thought my time here was very enlightening, and also therapeutic! The workshop is open source and offers membership which allows members to work on their projects in their own time, for a fee. I have since signed up and it’s been great. Highly recommended.

The first course I did with LSW was the bronze casting workshop. It. Was. INCREDIBLE! I was a complete beginner in sculpture but have a background in art. People on my course ranged from one other artist, a retired doctor, a woman who I think was a healer, a designer/architect, a hobbyist, a guy who came all the way over from Singapore and was learning the skills to be able to go back and set up his own studio to teach it, and more – it’s a real mix and they cater for everyone.
I can’t believe how much they packed in and taught us over 6 days/2 weekends, and we still had enough time to work on our pieces and develop them so we had an awesome bronze artwork or functional item to take home at the end. The teachers throw so much energy and expertise into supporting and teaching you; nothing was too much. They really helped me develop my idea.
You get a lot of bronze included in the course, which is awesome, and if you want to make something big you can always top it up at cost price (they are great like that). I learnt so many techniques, processes and how to use a range of awesome tools. Everything was so hands on that I felt the training really sunk in. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.
At least 3 people out of the small group on my course had done numerous courses there before so that felt like a stunning review in my opinion as I began. I’m now trying to decide between a mould-making course, maybe some copper sheet sculpture or a furniture building class next. Maybe once I get the hang of it all I’ll become a member as it’s an open access workshop too and then you get access to all the machines and tools etc, not to mention the space.

I booked the ceramics introduction course for me and my gf. We both really enjoyed it! We were complete beginners (no artists at all) and the teachers were wonderful and very attentive to everyone. I feel like we really learned quite a lot over the two days of the course. We'll do the glazing course as well now, continuing our pottery adventure. Thank you LSW!
