Must go excursion. When communism fell in Hungary, they authorized creation of this place and sent their communist era statues to be displayed.
These 60 pairs of shoes, sculpted from Iron, serve as a memorial to the 1940s atrocities committed against the Jewish people.

Built in 1896, the castle is one of the more recent additions to Budapest's enchanting landscape. Located not too far from the City Park, it is a tranquil area where you can walk around before checking out the vast park surrounding it. Some believe it was once the home of Count Dracula, but it now doubles up as the Hungarian Agriculture Museum and it's exhibits. There are events and concerts here sometimes too, so would recommend checking event listings and tickets accordingly.
Definitely enjoyed this experience! We took public transportation from city central, and it took about 45 minutes. Very simple if you're used to transit systems.
The price of admission was reasonable - despite other reviews. We spent nearly 2 hours looking and learning.
I highly recommend buying a guide book, as all the (historical) plaques are in Hungarian language only.

We visited the museum that is hosted inside the building and it was nice. We were just a bit disappointed because there was only one reconditioned room which was indeed exquisite and with many architectural details. The audio guide concentrated on this room and it was quite surprising to find out that there was nothing left from the original old room, everything was a copy.
We recommend at least visiting the yard of the building since this is free and worth it. Otherwise, the price was a bit high for what we saw compared to other museums in Europe.

Awesome view of the Pest side from above! Some restaurants to eat and beautiful architecture! You can get up by elevator and would definitely recommend seeing little stalls beneath the castle as they have interesting souvenirs - there is also a big terrace with the view of Pest nearby. Not so crowded despite the weekend
This park is not that big but it is worth visiting especially for history lovers. I didn’t really know much about the Hungarian history during the Soviet regime so I was happy to get some knowledge. It wasn’t crowded at all and we got the tickets by the entrance. FYI it has 2 parts: a park with the statues inside and 2 buildings outside the park gates.
The statue park where the soviet statue had been taken to after 1989. On one of the pics you can see the boots of Stalin but not Stalin itself as the statue had been demolished. At the entrance it is Lenin and Karl Marx waiting for you. They have a cinema part with four little movies, interesting. Takes approx 20 mins to get here by car from the center of Budapest. Adult ticket costs 3000 huf. They have a little gift shop too.
A great way to spend a day in Budapest! It's a huge zoo with some amazing animals to see - especially the polar bear, gorillas and red pandas!
There is also multiple areas to fill up water bottles, lots of WCs & plenty of cafés to stop and eat & drink at. In addition, there is also some smoking areas on-site.

Its a very big castle and will take a long time to see complete surroundings. Entrance to the nearby park is free , for going inside you need a ticket. Monday there is no entry inside castle, other days it will open at morning 10 o clock. Night view of the castle is awesome with lights. And morning sunrise also beautiful from here
Incredible monument in a huge square, situated right next to the nicest park in Budapest. You can find many beautiful aechitectural sights close by and it is easily accessible by metro (station ia right before the Square). Prepare to wait and change spots many times, if you wiah to take really good pictures of the square, as it is crowded all the time.
I could spend the whole day taking pictures and meeting other tourists at this square alone. But, better still, there's a lovely agricultural park close by with a peaceful flowing river. It's one of the stops (I think #9) on the hop on hop off tour. Budapest generally is a surprisingly great tourist city. Would definitely visit here again.
Very beautiful statues. The base of the central statue depicts Árpád, the first Grand Prince of the Magyar, as well as the six other clan leaders of the seven Magyar tribes which migrated into Hungary in the late 9th century. Along the side of the square are a variety of statues of famous medieval Hungarians. If you like history, you will probably like this square.
It's one stop souvenir, spices, clothing, home decor and other shops. The prices are reasonable. You can also have food here. I also bought Paprika Spice for Goulash soup. One tip, pay with your card in Hungarian currency. With euro it costs more.
Extensive area to walk around with lots of enclosures and covered exhibits. Check times for events like tiger feeding, gorilla lunch and Elephant training. All great too see. Plenty of rest areas for drink and snacks.

Most romantic part of Budapest. Incredible views. Highly recommend going at sunset and staying as the lights of the city come on. Dazzling views. No tickets needed. Free.
If you want to do it during sunset hours, this place will look magical. Unfortunately I didn’t have time so I did it at noon, was super sunny and hot. But the views were just as good and I went into the chapel that was so gorgeous. Sat down for a quick prayer. Amazing place, great views and almost Disneyland like
Hero's square is one of the best attractions in Budapest. It's a National monument which includes the seven chieftains of the Magyar tribes that founded Hungary and other important heads of state.
One of the highly recommended places to visit in Budapest. With its high vintage point, it offers great view of city including some of the attraction areas along Danube River like the Hungarian Parliament and Széchenyi Chain Bridge.
We visited around 11am and it was already packed with tourists. So better arrive early to have the place to yourself.
It has nearby cafes and restaurants including souvenir shop for those who wants to chill while in this area.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience visiting this place.

In my opinion it’s one of the most beautiful places in Budapest. It’s worth visiting anytime since it’s open 24 hours a day. Sometimes it can get extremely crowded because of the tourists but it is what it is. It’s one of the most famous city landmarks anyway. Most of the areas are free (except for the church, etc).
after the big climb it is really pretty! there are nice view points and places to hide from the sun. entry to the top is cheap, but i didn’t bother as you could see a beautiful view from the middle. recommend!! it is like a not painted disney land castle 😂🫶
Pretty like a Disney castle, but when we went it was also crowded like one. Away from the bastion, wandering through the quiet streets of Pest, the atmosphere was very different, so I suppose choose your timing well, because mid day in August is definitely not the best time to go.
A must-visit if you're in Budapest! A great way to spend half a day with lots of vegetable, meat, coffee, beer, clothing and food vendors.
This is among one of the most authentic places for food in Budapest with lots of vendors selling just about every Hungarian cuisine. Fast, fresh and delicious.

Very beautiful and peaceful memorial. Nicely located near the parliament and along the Danube. Can recommend if you are ever nearby.
Truly amazing and we'll worth the visit. Beautiful ancient architecture and a beautiful lake and nature to relax and take some pictures.

I tend to avoid visiting zoos due to ethical concerns, but we decided to go to this particular one because it's one of the oldest and most famous in the world. I had also heard positive reviews about it and was intrigued by some of its Art Nouveau-style buildings. However, it turned out to be a genuine disappointment! The spaces were maze-like and in a state of neglect. Many enclosures were empty, lacking any animals. The areas where the animals were kept seemed much too small. Lions and all the feline species were confined to cramped cages, as were other animals, such as squirrels desperately trying to escape through the bars. The only real highlight was encountering lemurs moving freely inside one of the buildings. I'm puzzled as to how this place still maintains its reputation and high ratings.

It's a remarkable place from the point of view of history and as a hommage to those who were murdered as a result of intolerance and antisemitism. Nevertheless I missed a text explaining in detail what happened there in 1944-45. The monument looks neglected and dirty.
A stunningly beautiful old market building hence 2 stars. The shopping experience is very poor. Seems to target tourists only. Mostly salami and paprika vendors. The 1st floor is souvenirs only.

Love it! An amazing palace. Looks like Disney and drakulas home together. It had a lake nearbay and a music museum.

The zoo is very big and interesting, lots of different animals and themed places.
The zoo also houses a botanical garden with a diverse collection of plants, trees, and flowers from different regions. This botanical aspect adds an extra layer of appeal for visitors interested in both animals and plants.

It is a monument of a jewish victims in WWII. They ordered them to put off their shoes here. Definetly worth visiting and remember the victims. You can visit it for free walking by the Danube just in front of the Danube bank.

A beautiful park and a fairy-tale castle, where you will take nice pictures, take a leisurely walk, but you can also find different small kiosks for food or coffee.
The right side represents literature and arts. The left side represents strength and power....or something similar.

We didn't go inside, but even just taking a walk around the castle (which by the way looks like something straight from a fairytale) was very nice. The castle is surounded by a beautiful park with a lake, which offers a lot of spots to just chill and enjoy the day
It is a great place to buy a lot of daily needs. Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Meat are all available. A wide variety of products are available. Fresh fish is also available at the basement of the market. It is a popular destination for the tourists and there are several different varieties of souvenirs available. Best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays.
Really interesting place. Cheap access for students (4€ or smtg). The park was not as big as I expected but still great. You also have access to a photo exposition and a little movie (it was not working the day I went).
Right now some construction is going on. You can not visit inside as a castle because it was looted during WWII but you can visit the museums inside. Outside it is beautiful to visit in early morning and the evening when the light are on (they turnoff the lights at 10pm). The view of the city from here is phenomenal.
This is the first place to visit in Budapest, the outside is open 24hrs and free, the church and tower is open from 9 to 19 and there is a ticket. The church is beautiful and there are about 300 steps to tower but the view is phenomenal. The best time to visit the Bastion is in early morning when very few people are there because this gets crowded real fast. And make sure you also come here in the evening too, the view to the city is absolutely amazing. You can also walk from here to the castle, this is all connected and on the same hill.
This is a part of Bastion. This particular part is a restaurant so you can only visit this particular part when you go to the restaurant and this particular restaurant is mostly booked so reservation is required in advance. But a great place to take pictures especially in early morning and late evening.
A beautiful place .. but I recommend going early .. although the park opens until seven in the evening, most of the animals sleep or disappear after 1 o’clock .. I did not feel that there was enough care in the fish aquarium and animals .. the tanks were dirty, and the animals appeared a little tired. .. But in general, it is a good place to visit, and there are discounts for students and universities🤩
Breathtaking castle with agriculture museum inside. Very nicely located next to the Heros square and a big park, this castle looks amazing next to a lake. It looks like it is out of a fairy tale.
Oh, my gosh this place is huge!! You can easily spend a whole day here. Get a map of the place right after the entrance as you will surely get lost otherwise.

It’s a very sobering experience. As an American, we read about WWII. We’ve seen movies, perhaps, if we were lucky, we met a holocaust survivor. But until you d stepped foot in a concentration camp, until you see shells and ruin of buildings bombed in WWII, until you look at these shoes filled with pebbles as a remembrance of a loved one, you don’t even begin to fathom the depth of pain and suffering. It’s a silent, sobering reminder that we must do everything in our power to not let hate win.
Not the variety or diversity of produce in comparison to other world renown markets but still definitely worth a visit. Great food stalls upstairs serving delicious Hungarian indulgences but very congested to negotiate. Upstairs are also many stalls selling souvenirs so make sure to browse before purchasing. Downstairs are fresh produce vendors and lots of stalls selling Hungarian paprika. The quality of meats is excellent and there's a huge variety of small goods. The market is housed in a huge neogothic building next to the famous Chain Bridge, overlooking the Danube in a beautiful bustling historic precinct. Recommend a visit 😊
The Heroes' Square in Budapest is a place that certainly won't leave you indifferent. Full of charm, its statues provide an unbeatable opportunity for photography lovers. Without a doubt, I would recommend it 100%.

We read at many places that is a must visit but the only nice thing about this place was grocery shopping. The fruits were very fresh. The ground floor have meat / spice and vegetable shops. On the first floor there are stalls / shops where they sell clothes/ magnets and hand Bags.

Great place to get some good photos. Easy to get to and the view is great. Can be kind of full so you might have to wait to get the picture you want, but it would be worth the wait. A must see place if you plan on visiting Budapest
Great place to spend some time. The art gallery inside can be viewed in about 2-3 hours if you take your time. You can also climb the dome and get a view of the city from above. The gardens outside were in maintenance, but you can still find a lot of great places to take some photos. There are 2 cafes inside and one souvenir shop. Overall great experience and worth visiting
This castle is a copy of a castle in Romania, and it contains parts of buildings of different architectural styles, so it's a bit of a mishmash :) However, this is very interesting and it's worth visiting. You can pay approximately £2 pp to visit the Apostles Tower and £1 pp to visit the Gatehouse Tower - both offer some views over the area. The castle houses the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, but we did not visit it as we preferred having a walk around.
Great structure on the top of mountain, beside the river Danube. Sprawling across a large area. The views are breathtaking. You can either take a fernacular or walk. The walking is not too tiring and you get to see a few viewpoints as well. I have not entered the museum and hence cannot comment. But the place was empty early in the morning, like 8:30 AM. Also the bus 16 is the best option to visit the castle from the Pest part of the city. This bus directly links to Tram 2. Overall, great experience.
A monument for the 550.000 Hungarian Jews who lost their lives between 1944 - 1945 by arrow cross militiamen. Thousands of them were shot at the banks of Danube. Before being shot, they were ordered to leave their shoes ashore. For most of them, this was their only valuable possession. The installation was erected in their memory in April 2005.
A must-visit in Buda area. Take the funicular uphill and explore. From there you can have a nice view over the whole Pest area. Try to be there either early morning of before sunset.
Must visit place! Every inches of this city is really beautiful and even more to see them from up top! And the best part is, there is escalator and elevator for those who doesn't want to and/or can't climb the stairs. The way they make things convenient for tourist to go up there easier is very generous! Definitely one of the free place you can go to in Budapest!

The Fisherman's Citadel is a wonderful place, full of great architecture and charming places. From the Citadel you have a great view of the Parliament, the bridges and St. Stephen. A place worth seeing and visiting. I highly recommend this is a must-visit in Budapest.

Wow! The architecture of this place is amaziiiing. So many picturesque places, different angles and a breathtaking view of the city.
Don’t recommend the souvenir shops here though, theres better and cheaper ones in the centre.

Ooohhhh…. The place is beautiful kust like didney Castles. Has a small market as well where you can buy drinks like leamonade and juices. Right oppsite is the church which again is very aesthetic. Make sure you get ample pictures at this beautiful place.
The Fisherman's Bastion is a stunning place to visit - but unfortunately the tourist hordes are well aware of this fact. If you would like to experience it at its best (and take some beautiful photos) then set your alarm and try to get up here as close to sunrise as those three cherry beers last night will allow. I managed 5.40 this morning 😇and still had to contend with a wedding photo shoot, a girl lip-syncing a pop video and the usual Insta types. Before 9 am (and after 7pm) you won't need to pay to go up to the upper level either - another bonus. Am planning an illuminated evening post-hordes trip later this week after the bank holiday is over: will update with how successful this turns out to be...
Romanesque looking statues and columns. Huge and stunning. Totally worth a visit and pictures. There added two different museums that are on both sides of the square and the city park is a super short walk from there. Easy to use a city bus to get out to that area, took us about 40 minutes on the bus. It is away from the main downtown areas.
One of my most memorable experiences during my visit to Budapest was visiting this location. It has a beautiful view of the city and the entire grounds is completely free, 24/7. My boyfriend and I spent hours here, just chatting and admiring the scenery. We watched the city lights turn on at around 8:20pm and took so many beautiful photos of the landscape. It’s not that crowded, making it feel extra special. Don’t miss this location during your travel to Budapest.

Firstly, this place should be definitely free. This place is in such a bad condition it doesn’t cost a cent. It costs 3.000f for regular ticket and 1.800f for students. Nevertheless, the quality of the service they provide is incredibly bad. Park is not taken care of - all roads are covered in gravel and uncomfortable, tiles are rarely seen and sometimes simply end in the middle of the road, lawns seem to be never cut, brick pedestals are all falling apart. The styled telephone booth was broken and instead or repairing they decided to close it with the construction tape. I wonder where does all the revenue from the pricy tickets goes to, but absolutely not to the needs of the visitors and park itself.
Even as a natural park this place is bad, since it has no trees or flowers.
Secondly, the vast territory of the memorial only includes about five interesting statues. Others either are either memorial signs or dull and uninteresting.
Thirdly, there is no information stands, very limited information on the statues themselves. The main attraction - giant black boots left from precisely a full statue, are incredibly high on the pedestal and cannot be seen fully from any distance! The museum was small and only included one worth mentioning showpiece - the same big boots but in the white color. The floor of the building was unstable and the it’s construction was probably done in a hurry. The screened movie inside was not intriguing either.
Overall, do not suggest this place. Expected much more. It could be an incredible experience with the amazing concept of preserving the history telling us the stories of the repressive communist past though statues. Nevertheless, what we get is a capitalist desire of people to easily take our money without providing any comprehensive, or even minimal, service.

Sad story of the massacre of Jews during the Holocaust who fled and plunged into the cold and deep Danube river. An art installation of the victims' shoes made of iron became a tragic monument to that event on the banks of the Danube.
See the statues and sculptures from communism era its super interesting. The aesthetic its super unique and tells a lot about the mindset of the communism party. The bunker with the busts of Stalin and Lenin has a very creepy atmosphere.

As a fan of the book, I shed a few tears when I went to visit the monument. I read the book in three different opportunities in life. If you are a fan, this is a must go!
This monument is made as a remembrance for the heroes of the same named youth roman written by Ferenc Molnár. It's loved by so many generations up to now, so that older generations became also fans of it.
The monument itself (two boys left to the entrance of the highschool and three other guys with their bags right from the door) looks simply awesome and unbelievably authentic - it's really worth to make a visit there in the neighborhood of the Corvin Plaza!

was a journey back to my teens, when I read the book at school in Brazil. delighted to see this!
A novel which is an obligatory book in primary schools in whole Poland,and a story that every Polish kid knows and is very familiar with...It really made me drop some tears when, as an adult, I was able to see the sculpture of my little heroes from the time when I was 10 or 11 years old and could olny imagine the square located near Pal street,where the beautiful story takes place.
