A beautiful Hindu temple hidden for ages under the layer of soil until it was excavated in 1966. It seemed to be small part of a larger compound which might be waiting under the land. An example of high civilized society of ancient Javanese.

We had a great day here with a local tour guide, whom we met at the entrance. After many temples in Bali can I say that this ne of the better ones. Can recommend it as a half day adventure.
A 8th century Hindu temple ruins 30 to 40 minutes from Yogya. This place is steeped in rich history and its breathtaking to see and experience!
We visited on a weekday thinking it would be quieter without many tourists but we were way off base. There were buses of schoolchildren on schooltours and the place was packed. Prambanan temple and grounds are closed on Mondays for prayers.

The ticketing procedure is easy and organized well. Its IDR 375000 per visitor if you are a foreigner. You buy your tickets at the ticket office from English speaking staff. As you exit the office you will come across a counter where you can hire guides. The guides are English speaking and friendly. For IDR 150000 you get a guide for an hour, 2 bottles of mineral water and a buggy ride to the 2 other temples within the temple grounds. The guide is well worth it and we took ours for 2 hours so as not to rush.

It can get hot as there are no shaded areas in the temples itself...it gets pretty stuffy and dark inside the temple chambers as well. Pace yourself and stay hydrated.

A high recommend on my list of places to visit in Yogya!!!

Parking lot was very spacious, car park is 15K rupiah.
For tourist you can buy the tickets online from their official account borobudurpark. The tickets now quite expensive, even for local tourist

We booked this trip through ViaVia travel in Jogja. They arranged a driver and car for the hotel pick up and drop off. The assisted with online entrance ticket purchase. Since covid Boroburdur have changed their visitor system. They now restrict numbers on the structure at any one time, so they have introduced 1-hour timeslots in small groups led by an appointed guide. There is no extra charge for the guide, but you do have to stay in your group. When you book your ticket online, you select a 1-hour slot from those available, and that is the time you are allowed onto the structure. You are given a wristband with QR code containing your time. You are also given soft soled 'slippers' as they call them to be worn on the structure to protect it from erosion (Pic attached).
As you enter the structure, your guide will explain and describe each level and the carvings as you ascend. Once at the top, you are allowed to wander around alone but keep an eye on your exit time. You all exit on the opposite side of the structure to the one you entered, and each wristband scanned out. Thus, they know if anyone is overdue. Your guide then points you in the direction of the exit. You can stay on the grounds as long as you like. Be mindful of the heat when booking your timeslot. Warning ⚠️ exit is through a myriad of market stalls and allys, and you will be pestered to buy, and they follow you around, insisting you spend. It is quite a gauntlet. Be firm.

We booked this trip with ViaVia travel in Jogja and would highly recommend them. There was no need to pre book tickets online as visitor numbers here are not restricted like Boroburdur. However, we arrived at 06:30 to beat the crowds and the heat. The gates to the temple compound don't open until 7am, which are to the right of the big white Prambanan sign. This was a good choice as there were only a few other visitors there so early. However, within an hour, there were so many visitors that lines were forming at all steps plus groups ignoring direction signs and entering temples using the exit steps. The heat was also starting to increase considerably. Get there early for some good pictures in cooler temperatures. 😎 we were back in jogja in time fir breakfast.

This a little temple, very cheap to get in. Was very dry when I went with a friend, so a lot of dust flying about.
Generally the place can be walked round in 10 or so minutes, it isn't busy at all. There is a poster/sign with some historical information regarding the place, makes an interesting 2 minute read. If you're on the way to prambanan this is a five min detour from jogja direction... So within 30 mins you could have popped in, walked around it, read the site information and had food at the local warung makanan. Quite pleasent too if you want to have a picnic there, as I saw some youngsters do whilst walking around the perimeter.

Candi Losari buka pukul 08:00 - 16:00

Requiring a guide limited the experience for me. Requiring unsafe sandals that allowed my feet to get sun burned was a drawback to the experience. Recommend taking socks that you can wear with the required sandals that you have to buy with the tickets. We chose not to pay extra for a guide that could speak English. We thought we could explore at our own pace, but we had to stay with our guide. It was really hot at 10:00 a.m. and the guide had us standing in the sun multiple times getting baked. Our group had 15 people, which was too many for one group. It would probably be worth it to find a way to pay extra for a smaller group of your own party to go at your own pace. You definitely should walk up the steps to the top.

This temple should not be miss when you visit Yogyakarta. If you want to know the history, it's good to get a guide. If you just want to enjoy the area and see the details of the structure, it's okay to go explore alone. Sunset was very nice one should not miss!

Amazing and magical place. We did a group tour with Sunrise, so we arrived to the Temple very early, we were the first one entered to the temple's first ground. We took a big walk around the temple and in the area. Around 9am they took us up to the temple. There is maximum 150 person/hour, and we were divided up to smaller group with a local guide, what made the whole experience even better

Borobudur Temple is a historical temple of the Buddhist religion. It is a temple worth visiting for lovers of history, antiquities, and learning about the ancient civilizations of the residents of the region. The place is not large, so you can take a walking tour, enter the temple, and take the most beautiful souvenir photos. The shrine is excellently equipped, with all necessary bathrooms and very clean public facilities available. The temperature is high, so a hat or sunglasses are required. These are also available there where you can buy or rent them, but I prefer that you prepare yourself in advance to reduce the cost 😅 Sunglasses and pre-booking a ticket to climb the temple and wander inside the temple itself. Tickets can be booked online. There is also a market for selling clothes and parts. The memorial is considered relatively cheap. The area is about an hour away from the city of Jogja by motorcycle. The road is excellent and fast. The area around the temple is very beautiful and worth a visit.

Worth the money coming to explore this beautiful temple. We came in the middle of the day and started the climb up the temple around 2 which was very hot, I would recommend coming earlier or later to avoid the heat. The temple itself was amazing and had a lot of history behind it. The number of people heading to the top of the temple is limited, so make sure to plan ahead, as you will need to be accompanied by a guide. You get a free water and pair of slippers that you can keep as a souvenir for when you ascend the temple so it does not get damaged. The guided tour is around an hour and a half with 30 mins explanation about the history of the temple before starting the ascent. Then you have an hour once you get your ticket scanned and start the climb. Our guide did a great job explaining the carvings and different levels of the temple and then we were given 20 minutes to explore the upper tier and to take photos on our own. Luckily since they limit the number of tourists, it wasn’t so crowded at the top and you can get a great picture. I definitely recommend the ticket where you climb to the top, otherwise the experience may not be as worth it. This place is a must see when in Yogyakarta
With the commercial concept of selling tickets, services and a lot of non religions nonsense - we never had at any time the feeling of being at a holy place.

It starts with the ticket service. Totally not organised and confusing. You need to buy the tickets online (which is GREAT) and you get a QR to activate your purchase. If you have a domestic person joining you it will need to pay extra IDR 10,000 for listening to the English guide….for what??

The guide was speaking good English, but what he was telling us is still a miracle.

After an endless procedure to access the area, you are penetrated by locals to rent umbrellas or other useless services. They just can’t respect that you want to understand/listen to the history of such an important place.

The temple itself is not in the condition I expected it, especially for the money you pay for the visit.

When you are leaving the area, you are forced to cross a horrible market of non religious goods and absolute useless products. Endless ways across this area, made me wonder why I was there. Everything is only about making money. Nothing about Buddhism. Very disappointing experience.

Incredibly impressive. Our guide was knowledgeable but knew that most of the group wanted to get to the top and get our pictures. Absolutely the best thing we have done in Java.

Only 150 people are allowed up at the time which is good.

We had a tour take us there, and we did get a better history of the temple and it's significance on Java culture before we went.

Well regulated with their entrance rule of only 150 people per hour (with more people on the temple, the temple would sink). We had a tour guide provided with the tickets we bought and he was a very informative and fun guy. The entrance difference for tourist and locals is huge though. If you go in the afternoon, be prepared for a hot walk. They give out umbrellas for 20k to use for shade. Overall a great experience.

Largest Buddhist temple in the world. Absolutely beautiful and well worth the visit. I'd advise buying a ticket to do the climb as the tour guide is very informative and you learn a lot about Buddhist culture and history. Get there early as tours later in the day are very hot with little to no shade. I arrived at 6:30am but the tour was not until 8:30. Food options while you wait
Stop listening to the hardcore Angkor Watt fans, this place is also worth your time and money! Come early so you can avoid the heat and the crowds. Apart from this majestic temple you will also see 3 more all included in the same ticket, each with their own charm. You do not want to miss any of them!
Do not overlook this gem especially if you have time to spend in the area. The entrance fee for foreigners is only 50k which is a steal especially when you consider that other temples in the area that are less interesting and poorly preserved cost 6 times more. I am looking at you Ratu Boko! This temple is decorated with beautiful sculptures inside and out and the restoration efforts are very impressive.

It looks better, than the first time I came here couple years ago. There's UMKM that's sell food and drink.

Poorly we couldn't go the second floor building (front part).

I wish I couldn't see people standing on the grass.

Beautiful Hindus temples actively in used. The guided tour is recommended to get to know the panels better. The best time to visit is during sunset. But the ticket closed at 4.30. So u better plan ahead. We come from Borobudur at 2 and got here almost 4.15 due to the heavy traffic condition. There is a Hindus prayer at 4.45. We are lucky to catch the last batch up the main candi. This is a relatively new temples compared to those in other places in south east Asia. The altar and gods and goddesses figures are mostly still fully intact. Bring hats or umbrellas because it is very hot.

This is one of the must-visit UNESCO HERITAGE Sites! The view will blow you away! The architecture of the various temples is intricately built and restored. Take your photos in any angle and it will look like a postcard. Haha... welcome yo Prambanan Temple guys!
It's a must visit place in Yogyakarta. Its one of the famous Buddhist monuments in the world, built between 8th and 9th Century. The best way to visit the temple is to take a guided tour. A limited number of tourists are allowed to enter inside the temple at a time. Without prior booking It's difficult to get a slot. More than half day is required to visit this temple. Enjoyed my visit to this place.

It’s a must visit if you are going to Yogyakarta - the largest Buddhist temple in the world and it’s awe inspiring.
It’s advisable to book tickets online - they give you time slots when you can go up the temple. The ticket cost includes special footwear that you need to wear if you want to climb to the temple. You go in small groups at an allotted time slot and a guide comes along with you. All this is included in the price. During dry seasons it’s advisable to carry water to drink.

The temple itself has been ravaged by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but kudos to the Indonesian authorities and UNESCO for restoration and taking painstaking efforts to maintain the premises.

It's a little temple at Yogyakarta, visible clearly from the road. Though we bought tickets to go inside, it's not worth it as there is nothing inside.
Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, is probably the largest and best Temple in Indonesia. There are supposed to be 224 temples in the complex. The three significant temples are of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Attached to the three main temples are three smaller temples for their Vahana (vehicle) Garuda, Nandi and Hansa. There are also temples of Goddess Durga, Agastya, Ganesha. The temple is very popular among the tourists as well as locals. It gets very crowded during weekends, especially to watch sunset. It took us one hour just to come out of the parking lot on a Sunday evening. The view of the setting sun in between the majestic temples is worth watching. There is inscriptions of entire Ramayana on the walls of the temples. It require a minimum of half day to visit the temple. Though it's expensive a guided tour is a must to understand and appreciate the architectural wonder of this temple. A combo ticket with Borobudur temple can be purchased to save some money. I tried buying it at Borobudur temple, but it was not available, but the same was available at Prambanan Temple.

Very beautiful place. Our guide leaded us through Prambanan and it was so amazing. He has a very broad knowledge, know answers of all our questions, also the comparison between prambanan and borobodur.

If you are interested in culture, architectural and the story about ramayana things, I would definitely recommend a guide (official price 150k IDR per hour; August 2023)

23/Aug: Old historical temple for tourist attraction. Nice for photo shots. Many have yet to restore after been destroyed by the earthquake. This place nay not be as famous as Borobudur, but it's good to visit after all one have arrived in Jogja.
Recommended to visit early to avoid the crowd and not hot. Temple surroundings is clear of trees, thus not much shade for visitors
There is tour guide for hire but there was no price list, that's the downside. I did not hire one, so no story telling.
Upon exit, one have to go through the maze of shops similar to Borobudur, but not as aggressive like Borobudur.
Overall, it was a good visit.
2nd visit to the monument using the guide and with limited time to spend. The previous visit was much better as there was no time limit. Had a bad experience when exiting, had to go through long lanes to reach the parking like going thru maze of souvenir stores

A majestic temple complex. Opening time 8.30 for the groups (with guide). No sunrise tours at 4 /5/6 am anymore. Purchased tickets online a week in advance. A tour with guide last 1 hour plus (inside the temple, climbed all the way up). Only about 1200 tourists allowed daily. Lots of souvenirs shops around, cafes etc.
Such a beautiful space - a shame that people don’t really visit it!

Only 50,000 per person for foreigners which is welcome considering Borabadur and Prambanan are 25 USD each!

Parking at Plaosan is 3000

We decided to see this temple as it was less overrun and less expensive. No regrets, though we didn't actually go to either of the big temples.
This was beautiful, with few visitors. It was nice to relax and wander around to look at everything. Highly recommend.

I LOVE the Prambanan temple. I personally think it’s better than the Borobudur temple by a long shot. The temples are stunning and you can enter them! How lovely.

The grounds are quite massive and they have a shuttle bus to transport between some sites, but the schedule isn’t clear nor reliable. There is a museum, but there are no English translations available. I do feel the $60 USD entry fee could’ve been better delegated to address these things.

However, it’s still worth every penny!

Very beautiful. Although the two separate entry points aren’t being made clear to tourists. There is the general admission where you can explore the grounds, including AROUND the temple, then there’s the separate admission (with a schedule on a first come first serve basis) where you can walk ON the steps of the temple and whatnot.

However, I love the museum. It has a lot of great displays with the descriptions available both in Indonesian and English.

Many ruins. Some intact and others fell apart since it's very old, over a thousand years. Beautifully sculptured animals and people. Good workmanship. It's located in Yogyakarta Special Region. A lot of visitors from other countries were there too. Good to take photos there. A lot of local guide who can speak many languages if you want to hire them and listen to the story of the temple. Ample parking areas.

So beautiful and cheaper than going to the bigger temple but shares a lot of the same beautiful architecture - the guys at the front are super friendly as well. Foreigner tickets are 50k. You get to walk inside the temple and take beautiful photos I highly reccomend.
This is a cute little temple, less crowded than the other big temples. Do give it a try, it's gorgeous when the weather is clear. Plus the entrance fee is super cheap too

Candi Borobudur in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a breathtaking masterpiece of ancient architecture. The intricate carvings and serene backdrop create a truly captivating experience. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases the grandeur of the past.

Exploring the temple's grounds reveals the rich symbolism and intricate carvings that adorn its walls. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are remarkable, showcasing the incredible skill of the ancient builders. The peaceful ambiance surrounding the temple is incredibly serene and conducive to contemplation.

I highly recommend visiting Candi Borobudur for a unique and enriching experience. While access to the temple's upper levels may be limited, the lower levels still provide a glimpse into its magnificence. The sheer scale and spiritual significance of Candi Borobudur make it a must-see destination. It's a place that will leave you in awe and offer a profound connection to history and spirituality.

I came back to this place after almost 1 decade! The 50k entry ticket is not too expensive compared to the extra care to preserve the preservation of this historic place even though I entered at a ticket price of 25k (students understand). The older this place the more beautiful. Prambanan is very well maintained, and extraordinary care.

Since 2010, when you enter Prambanan Temple, you have to wear a batik sarong because it was indirectly a place of worship for Hindus in ancient times. Foreign tourists usually wear shorts. As a result, to respect Prambanan Temple as a place of worship, he was given a batik sarong

Exquisite Hindu temple complex. Must see in Indonesia.
Prepurchase the tickets for access on the main temple.
I suggest buying the last scheduled tour, 4 pm this way you will see all the temple structure ( in a good day ) in the " golden light - before sunset.
There are no more tours for sunset only so take this chance to have a heavenly experience.
Access on the temple terraces requires a set of special flip-flops that are provided by the visitor centre, brand new, your size and that you can take home in a nice local tote as a gift.
All these tours are guided and the guides have pretty good English skills. Hope you have the patience to listen to their stories about ancient history and local history.
You will not be allowed to go on the terrace levels without a ticket and special shoes.
The walk / stairs : stairs are fairly standard in size and can be easily approached by anybody. I consider the terrace tour is a must

I do not agree with the opinion of other tourists that this temple can replace the popular Prambanan temple. It is not. They are completely different and this temple is much inferior in size.
You must remove your shoes at the entrance to each room. There are shelves next to the entrance where you can leave your shoes.
The cost to enter the grounds for foreigners is 50,000.

The Catholic Dutch architecture buildings with hundreds of doors (which were rounded to thousand = Sewu/Seribu) are obviously the main attraction to this place and it's quite well-preserved by the local govt. They had quite lots of infographics to read from to know more about Lawang Sewu and had many photographs and paintings from old times to view.

You could unironically get a bit lost while exploring, or at least that's what happened to me. There are too many doors to step into and go out from. Not every story/floor is open for visitors, though.

If you're looking for a classic recreational site to visit with family, friends or loved one, this is such a good place. There are a lot of food stalls, coffee place, clothing store and even live music and CFC restaurant to spend time in.

Restrooms were under a fixing process when I visited so it wasn't quite nice. They have a Musholla for muslims to pray as well in case they need it.

Very basic Temple in the local community. Gives you a good idea of the smaller scale temple dotted all over the region during that period. Now the area has changed to Islam faith. Historically the place was Hindu Buddhist. All depends on the rulers of the time. Still the locals are very peaceful and friendly.

Looks beautiful from the outside. Nothing much to see inside. Mostly are empty rooms. There was performance when we came to visit.
Not spooky at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It's basically a historical trip back in time to the colonial era from a train enthusiast perspective. If you want to gain the most experience possible, please do hire a guide there.
The temple is one of the crowdless one near to Prambanan. It looks similar in co struction but very less crowded.
The idols at the places are missing and renovation works are still happening. The place looks like a remain of an olden hindu temple which would have been a really big place of worship.
The entry fee is 50k for foreigners and 20k for locals.
Compared to spending more at Prambanan, i would suggest visiting this temple.
Small but nice temple. We visited here right before going to Pawon Luwak Coffee that’s only couple of meters away. There will be many sellers offer you merchandise and gift, buy if you like or reject it politely.

Religion: Unknown.
Main features: Organic compound; staggered square.
State of preservation: Only the base of the temple is still standing.
Description: This site, in a poor state of preservation, has partly been excavated. It was made of at least two structures, a temple and a rectangular building (now disappeared).
The temple was composed of a square base (8.75m x 8.75m) and a staggered square body (6.50m x 6.50m). Although its orientation is unknown (east or west), its axis is SE-NW and 6-7° from magnetic north.
The rectangular structure, may be some kind of pendopo, was located 25m south of the temple.71 It was roughly 4m (east-west) x 6m (north-south).72 As the square temple, the building axis is SE-NW, but it is more than 10° from magnetic north.

Candi Klodangan ini ditemukan warga tertimbun tanah di area persawahan dan di belakang bangunan rumah. Akses menuju candi cukup sulit karena harus melewati pematang sawah.

As if in tandem. After Borobudur Temple, you will be brought over Pawon temple by your guide. Pawon Temple. A small temple in an open, like garden setting, space and within like, maybe 5 minutes, it will be time-out. On your way out, those traders? They are adamant in closing sales with you and they will make sure you run after you. Buy if you feel.

As compared to others temples surrounding Yogyakarta this one is less busy. Perhaps due to the scale of this temple, there's only one temple in the centre and a few small ones around it. However, dont let that fool you for this temple is comparatively as beautiful as others. Only because it is not that well-known yet. Oh, another thing the entrance fee is only one fifth of other temple fees which is 5000 rupiah.

Not as well known as candi Prambanan and Kalasan, but what's interesting is the sunken site at a depth of about 10 m. To the North you can see the Merapi mountain, to the West is the main entrance to the candi. Unfortunately, there's little space for parking your car, more convenient to use a motorcycle. The entry fee is Rp. 6K, there are some toilets to the left (West) of the entrance.

Jejak yang masih tertinggal. Reruntuhan candi yang ada di belakang rumah-rumah warga, berbatas sawah. Aksesnya lewat pematang atau halaman rumah warga.

good place for a short holiday. this temple is located 6.5 meter below the surface, because it had been covered by the vulcanic dust.
now they have renovated the temple and the area.
the entry ticket is only 5k per person. pretty cheap, then you can explore and learn this beautiful historical site.

What makes this ancient architecture beautiful is where it located. Its an underground level temple. Some says it has been buried when Merapi had massive eruption thousand years ago. Nowadays, this Hindi temple us becoming popular tourist destination among the others.
