This zoo is exceptional! A lot of interaction with animals, and the admission fee is unbelievably cheap! My 8 years kid had a lot of fun here!
Avoid this place at all costs—it's truly abysmal. I have seen much zoos with much better enclosures in developing countries that are considered to be far behind Japan. Barring a handful, almost all of the enclosures fall far short of providing the proper landscape, stimulation, or space for the animals. Most resemble prison cells—small, concrete, and devoid of plants or enrichment. Some were downright filthy.
Disturbingly, many animals displayed clear signs of distress and extreme boredom, including an (underweight) monkey, a zebra, the sun bears, and the large felines like lions and tigers.
The irony of proudly showcasing the Andean condor's wingspan on a sign, only to confine it in an enclosure barely double that wingspan, is hard to ignore. The zebra's enclosure lacks even artificial grass and looked more like a small parking lot than an enclosure for a large herbivore hailing from the African savannah.
The zoo has ample space available. Incorporating a few plants into specific enclosures should be a no-brainer. A slight increase in the cheap entrance ticket price could easily fund many improvements. Some of the animals just don't belong in the zoo, especially not in these horrible enclosures. The current state of affairs is truly unacceptable. There is no way the people behind it have any care in the world for animal welfare, conservation of zoology.

Yagiyama Zoo in Sendai is a true gem! The well-maintained facilities, diverse animal exhibits, and engaging interactive experiences make it a must-visit. The passionate staff, beautiful landscaping, and thoughtful conservation efforts add depth to the overall experience. The zoo's accessibility, amenities, and educational focus create a perfect blend for visitors of all ages. A delightful day out that exceeded expectations!

They just have a bird, flamingo, giraffe and pinguin that’s a real animal rest of it they literally nothing. So many children coming here as group tour from school. They so cute, excited and lovely to foreigners ✨💕 they just have a toilet inside of the zoo the ticket also not that pricey. 600 yen.

Really relaxing place that has a small town community park feel blended with a zoo. Due to this more open layout, you are free to explore the various exhibits how you like, which means you do need to keep track of where you went/what you saw if you want to see it all. Many other zoos have set walking paths that kind of guide you through much of those zoo exhibits to a certain degree. Plentiful large seating, shade, and play areas, even a mini amusement park. The tickets were very affordable and cover both the zoo and the aquatic life park.

We spend a delightful day at the Park and Zoo. The zoo is close to the train station. The weather was perfect, and the exhibits were great. There was no wait to get into the zoo. They have plenty of public bathrooms and vending machines.

If you are slightly familiar with animals in general and their origins and needs:don't spend money there.
That beeing said:let me elaborate a bit, why.
1)Passing several herbivores I first got the feeling :Uff. Do they even have enough space? Additionaly :the amount of children passing by them, screaming and shouting and so on (ok those are children - so they do what they do), the animals don't have even the slightest possibility to escape the noise. Taking into consideration, most of the are also flight animals... Count 1+1about the stress they are exposed day by day.
2)showing off, how big the wingspan of a condor is... 3.3m-Yes impressive. Putting that humongous bird in a cage maybe 10-12m wide,7-8m height and 15ish deep is questionable at least. The same applies to other bigger eagles, caged nearby.
3)the big cats. Lions and Amur Tigers.
Excuse me, but last time I've checked, there is no solid concrete pasted either in the savanna nor in the steppes and forests of Asian origins of the tiger. How in the gods freakin name did you come to the idea of putting concrete as an appropriate bedding for these animals? How? Explaine it please. The reason of "easier" cleaning is a lazy one. There you definitely should re-evaluate the thought behind a (proper) zoo.
And how do you expect these animals to be entertained and busy, if they hardly have anything to do. A tree for scratching the claws isn't close to what they actually need. Hearing them roar gave me goose bumps. Those screams were not mating/territorial ones. It was just pain and suffering I heard. The enclosures for lions and Tigers are way to small.
And please, don't come me with the reasoning:we couldn't provide a popper bedding because of "insert any reason here". The Orang-Utans have a huge variety of plants, trees and bushes at the bottom of their enclosure(which also seems to be very versatile and offers a lot to climb/do for the animals-so at least props to you there) . So it's not you aren't able to, but you don't want to,it seems.

The quality of enclosures is a mixed bag. The macaque area is very large and accommodating with a lot of space for the animals as well as plenty of toys and enrichment. It is easily the best enclosure in the park. Other exhibits like the black bear, reptiles, and red panda ones are adequately sized with some form of enrichment. The other primate enclosures are a bit small and cramped, but most have some form of climbing equipment to keep the animals from getting too bored.
There are some animal enclosures split into 2 parts (one indoors, one outdoors) and while the outdoor ones have more space, the indoor enclosure for animals like the giraffes is always depressingly small. The capybara indoor area had four of them in a small section, and the water they were swimming in and drinking from was filled with their feces.
Easily the worst area was the polar bear enclosure. One bear was sleeping and didn't show any signs of neglect or stress, but the other was constantly pacing and engaging in repetitive behavior while drooling excessively and showing other signs of animal distress (vocalizing, pacing around the enclosure, panting). If you're going to house an animal like a polar bear, you HAVE to accommodate their needs: plenty of space, ice/fans to regulate the temperature when it's too warm for them, a large enclosure, and lots of enrichment. It was heartbreaking seeing that poor creature in such discomfort.

Took our kids here on a weekday afternoon before visiting the well-known museum nearby. I was impressed with the quality of the exhibits given that I went in knowing it was a small zoo. This zoo reinforces the idea that kids don't need a massive overwhelming zoo to enjoy animals.
The playground was nice as well, probably best for kids under 10 years old. Price was good.

Very interactive and fun. Kids got to feed elephant and watch bird show.
Located in a very calm and nice and green area of Tokio, this small Zoo with is superb playground is a very nice spot when you search for a place where your two small kids can run around freely and have an enjoyable time. Also nice for adults who want to be alone and away from the city

Beautiful park. My favorite part was the cage with squirrels. You can walk into it and watch the squirrels up close.
The park is very big and very clean. The map advertises an elephant but apparently the elephant, Hanako, had passed away in 2016, and they haven't acquired a new one since. Just letting you know, there are no big animals in this zoo.

Best rose garden in Japan! It was such a beautiful display. The zoo was so much fun, too. All the animals we saw had such spacious enclosures. I typically don't like zoos for keeping animals in cramped places but this was the opposite. Saw some really cool animals that I'd never seen before. Don't leave Fukuoka until you visit this place.
Well laid out and clean. I hope the animals are happy here. Lion and tiger cages were very sparse, and hippo looked bored. Anyway, as far as family time out looks great. Children were very excited. Nice play ground at the top with a children's size big wheel etc. Very colourful and cheery. In the botanical gardens, the roses looked beautiful and the greenhouse lovely. For the admission price I'd say good value for money. Just a few minutes walk away nice view of city from the car park
It’s a huge zoo. Please take time and visit the zoo. There are so many animals but we couldn’t see some animals as we entered the zoo after 15:00. If u want to see all the animals go before 14:00 as many animals will be gone back to there cage. Mainly tiger 🐯 lion 🦁 rhino 🦏 panther 🐆 the main animals were back to the cage instead of the display cage. My little one enjoyed a lot. All zoo takes around 3 hours as it’s on a hill with many ups and down.
Fukuoka Zoo and Botanical Garden is open every day 9am to 5pm (last entry at 4:30pm) except Mondays with a few exceptions. Individual prices are 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for high schoolers (some exceptions may apply, information about them is available on the website). It is located on the hillsides of Fukuoka with lots of trees and lush greenery and offers excellent views looking over the central Tenjin/Fukuoka city. We went during the cherry blossom season and it was beautiful. The zoo and the botanical garden are home to many hundreds of animals and plant species and they continue to expand as guests can see construction sites even today. The area is largely divided into three parts which are very well maintained. One may need all day to see everything. We spent one afternoon and barely covered one of these areas. It is well worth a visit especially with children to learn and see many animals and plant species and stroll up and down the hills.
Beautiful zoo in the park. I went there on Saturday around 11.30am. The crowd in the zoo was ok. But the park gets busy around 12pm. The zoo has 2 parts, 1 focus on small animals and the other on aquatic animals. Just need to pay for 1 ticket to visit both park. The small animal park has a small amusement park in it. I had a good time there spent around 1hr+ then we head to the park to enjoy the surroundings. There are food vendors and cafes around the park, so looking for food is not an issue there.
It’s free charge for junior high and elementary school students , so we could enter it as cheaper as. There are great zones we could visit and play. My boys were happy there .
The entry ticket is 400yen which is for both zoo and aquarium together.
The zoo is not so big, spacious with limited number of animals, all are well maintained.
I would definitely recommend squirrel house they were so notorious and cute as you could see my pics.

外からの標識だけでは気づきにくいですが、中に入るとびっくり、とても開放的で新しく綺麗な施設です。スタッフの方もとても感じが良く、色々な無料イベントも開催されていて、子供から大人まで楽しめます。2歳の娘はリサイクル紙でつくるハンドバッグのワークショップに参加して大満足でした。いろんな展示もあるようなのでまた是非じっくり訪れたいです。
This zoo is honestly the worst zoo I have ever seen. Nearly all of the animals were showing signs of boredom/stress. The enclosures are WAY to small and run down. I have never cried at a zoo before but I was uncontrollably balling my eyes out witnessing the conditions these animals live in. The polar bear had multiple wounds, the monkeys know nothing but life inside of a cage, and the hippo enclosure is smaller than my living room and the giraffe was living on the side of a building on concrete. The list could go on and on. These animals need a major upgrade. The elephant keepers also had bull hooks on hand. I wish facilities such as these didn’t even exist. These animals deserve so much better and the care they are being given is unacceptable. Do not visit this zoo, it is not educational for any age group.
The kids love the place so much. There is a wide range of various animals. Entrance isn't very expensive. If you are in a family and one of the parents is a student then your family enters for free.

For 600¥ for both Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a great deal! Highly recommend, very family friendly areas. Plenty of food, bathrooms and benches along the ways.

By Japan animal standards its pretty good, but if you are from Denmark where the zoo's have bigger and better cages for All the animals, then its a bit sad to look at some times
always come here to have great time with my children. the facilities is getting better and better. except panda, I think they have all land animals, such as elephant, giraffe, polar bear, tiger, hippo, and rhino. easily reached by tozai subway line. I think their mascot is laser panda.
