A 20th-century creation, Palace Bridge is undoubtedly one of the most famous sights in St. Petersburg and is quite literally unmissable for most visitors, who will use it to move between Palace Square, from which you can see the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum, and the numerous historical attractions on Vasilevskiy Ostrov.
In 1901, a design competition for a permanent bridge was held. Until then, this crucial link was provided by boat or by a pontoon bridge, as a legacy of Peter the Great's interdiction against bridge-building in his new capital (he believed doing so would foster sailors).
After eight years, the jury finally chose a winner. They picked Andrey Pshensitsky's designs, a recent St. Petersburg Institute of Communications Engineering graduate. An Art Nouveau artist, Roman Meltzer, was commissioned to design the decor. In 1912, construction began.
Due to the First World War, the project was delayed considerably, and the opening of the Palace Bridge in 1916 was relatively discrete, with many of the decorative details unfinished. Palace Bridge has changed its name only once throughout its history: between 1917 and 1944, it was known as the Republican Bridge.
Currently, over 30,000 cars cross the bridge every day, which leads to some of the most intense traffic jams in St. Petersburg. However, the views of the Winter Palace, the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the rows of historical buildings along both sides of Neva River are some of the best in the city.

Красивый мост, напоминает железнодорожный мост в Риге. Мост хорошо видно из моего окна, по нему часто ездят поезда, пару раз видела разводку (не очень зрелищно). Мне, как уроженке Латвии, мост очень нравится, много приятных чувств вызывает)
I find it quite awkward that people (and boats) flock to the vicinity to see the bridge getting opened at 2am at night. The view in summer where there is still a bit of light is quite appealing, with the nice blue night sky background. At other times, this is "just another bridge" that connects the two sides of the Neva river.

Он соединяет правобережную и левобережную части Невского района. Мост связывает два берега Невы между Володарским и мостом Александра Невского. На левом берегу проходит над проспектом Обуховской Обороны, на правом - над Октябрьской набережной. Это единственный в границах Санкт-Петербурга железнодорожный мост через Неву.
Интересный факт 21 августа 1963 года Авиалайнер Ту-124 авиакомпании «Аэрофлот» не долетев 4 метров до этого моста приводнился на реку Неву.

Just happened to discover this place when we were walking along Hermitage. We ended up spending 30 mins here staring at the boats which were passing by. We took some wonderful photos here. The architecture around this place is just brilliant.

st petersburg at nite is architectural beauty in full display. the descent to the subway feels like going to center earth. do not plan to travel by subway after 11 pm, it is closed. cabs are cheap and plentiful, just close your eyes to avoid stress.

That's what means love from first view.Wonderful little bridge with view to canal andiracles of architecture or if you turn aroun view to river Neva what is so magical.That is one of the places what never look same (even if it is) and it gives you feeling of real Saint Petersburg.I've seen it at all time of the year at night and day time and I always want to stop and look at it before continue my walk.That's plenty to see around the bridge but main thing what's coming to my head is how can that small thing make such big and positive emotions?That's what this place does over and over again.

Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge (aka Peter the Great Bridge) was built in 1908-1911 by architect Vladimir Apyshkov.
I walked on this bridge one night, saw a memorial being held by some guys with big gallons of water being used to write something on the floor of the bridge. Shrugged it off as some anti Putin movement and continued my night tour of Moscow (it was beautiful!).
Only after I read All The Kremlin's Men did I realise that I had actually walked by a momentous historic place. 🙏 RIP Mr Boris Nemstov... You shall not be forgotten.

This is a famous bridge in St. Petersburg that crosses the Fontanka River along Nevsky Prospekt. It is a relatively short crossing that is decorative and features four landmark sculptures of horse tamers.
Constructed in 1841-42, the bridge features appealing iron railings. However, the highlight is seeing the four large horse tamer sculptures, which were installed at the two ends of the bridge between 1849-50. These are individually impressive works of art, particularly for those who enjoy viewing sculptures and statues.
Note: The Anichkov Bridge and its sculptures are particularly nice to see when viewed from the opposite bank to the pink coloured Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace. If you position yourself correctly, you can capture all in the same frame, allowing some decent pictures to be taken.
In the end, we liked the Anichkov bridge. This is a quick attraction to view and enjoy if you find yourself in this area of St. Petersburg during your visit to the city.

From this bridge you may have an excellent view of Moscow Kremlin, the southern side of the wall. Also you can see St. Basil's and the southern entrance to the Red square. The bridge has four view zones. At night the view is especially good. If there is no wind you can also see the reflection of Kremlin wall in the water.

My favourite bridge. Stunning. I could stare at the statues for hours. When the Fontanka froze I went and walked on the ice and it looks beautiful from the ice. Equally stunning on the pavement or by boat in warm weather. Highly recommend the trip up Nevsky to see it
Толе изначально не очень грамотно спроэктирован выезд на мост, толе в последствии отнеслись не сильно ответственно к установке вывесок, но факт не скрыть, те кто впервые здесь едут, приходят в замешательство, мол "на лево пойдёшь - коня потеряешь, на право... и т.д."

There is a place here that shouldn't be missed: The Popular Memorial to Boris Nemtsov. Boris Nemtsov, one of the leaders of the Russian opposition, was assassinated here on February 27, 2015. The Memorial exists in spite of numerous attacks of communal services and ``patriotic'' government-supported provocateurs.

Автомобильный мост через Водоотводный канал. В отличие от соседей, имеет небольшие декоративные элементы. Длина моста 70 м, а основного пролёта - 42 м. С обеих сторон моста имеются тротуары, также есть несколько лестничные спуски на набережные. Это единственный мост на канале, имеющий спуски к воде и стационарный причал вверх по течению.
Своё название мост получил от Матросской слободы, находившейся рядом при Петре Первом. Открывается живописный вид на Яузу и набережные в обе стороны. В современном виде мост построен в 1956 году по проекту инженера Б.Г. Наумова и архитектора Г. Г. Шаховой на месте моста 1910 года. Первый деревянный мост существовал на этом месте с 1793 года и был обязан своим происхождением купцу Мазаеву.
Decorative bridge in the place where Fontanka river meets Nevsky Prospekt. The bridge itself is not that long, though, some tens of meters. But views at and around and statues also are definitely worth a visit. Especially during the light nights.
