Stitch Sew Shop

I love this place! It’s so convenient to have this shop with great prices and supplies so easily accessible. It’s also the only local place I’ve been able to find Swedish tracing paper!

I learned how to sew here for the first time in my life! The beginner class was lovely, and I got to take home the pin cushion I made. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about taking on sewing. It was very easy to follow.

I completed the Beginner Series and cannot recommend it enough! I never touched a sewing machine before in my life and am now super inspired to continue sewing. Ellen was my teacher and she gave clear instructions. She kept us on task and went above and beyond by letting us start a little early or end a little late if we were behind. The Beginner Series helped me feel confident at the sewing machine and I can’t wait to head back to Stitch Sew Shop get the supplies I need to continue on my sewing journey!

I really love this store, mainly for their classes. I moved away from the DMV area and it took me so long to find a sew shop with actual lessons (that were also affordable). I really wish they did virtual lessons also. I would happily pay the same amount of money. You can’t find sewing classes abundantly and I’m not someone who can teach myself using YouTube. I want someone I can actually ask a question to and receive an answer in the moment. It’s an untapped area guys! Get in on it! It’s the digital age! Quarantine should’ve proved this would be a great addition!

My initial visits to this shop were pleasant as I had taken and completed their introductory sewing class session in August. I was pleased with the skills I had learned and wanted to continue using their work space in September to complete an item from the sewing class as well as try my hand at sewing an item on my own. I reserved and confirmed my time to use their work space but when I arrived, I was completely ignored despite my request for assistance. I left after waiting 12 minutes. The one employee on staff (who actually taught me during the initial sewing class in August) was dismissive and helped other customers who came in after I arrived. I have spent a good deal of money at the shop and intended to continue to support them but after this experience, I will never go back.

I have taken two wonderful sewing classes/workshops at the Stitch Sew Shop. Both were fantastic. Most recently I took Mary’s class featuring the "Camber Set", a Merchant & Mills shirt/dress pattern. I am astounded by how much I learned thanks to Mary’s expertise, guidance, and endless patience. I had never before made a muslin prototype hence had no idea how it could be used to custom fit a pattern. Other skills learned in Mary’s class included making bias tape and perfect darts, topstitching, and using a serger.
The classes I took at the Stitch Sew Shop were fun and relaxing and apart from the terrific instruction, I really enjoyed meeting and learning from fellow students. I also appreciated how much room there was for pattern layout and cutting and that we were each assigned our “own” Bernina sewing machine.
I now have a beautiful new custom-fitted tunic – made with gorgeous fabric from the store – and a pattern custom fit for me. The Stitch Sew Shop staff is highly knowledgeable and always incredibly helpful. I highly recommend both their classes and the wonderful array of fabrics and notions.

This is a beautiful shop! Everything is clearly arranged and placed with care. The entry area if full of apparel patterns on both walls, arranged by brand. Then the rest of the shop is split in half lengthwise with half deducted to a studio workspace and half fabric and notions. There was a dressing room in the back and a wall of samples of clothing that you could buy the patterns for. It was unclear if you could try those items on or if the dressing room was just for students working on their own pieces and making adjustments. Definitely geared towards apparel makers but as a quilter I was still able to find plenty of fabrics to add to my collection. I would love to see some more bag patterns added to the stock!
