Shawarma شاورما is a popular Middle Eastern dish that originated in the Ottoman Empire, consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in an inverted cone, and roasted on a slowly turning vertical rotisserie or spit. Traditionally made with lamb or mutton, it may also be made with chicken, turkey, beef, or veal. Thin slices are shaved off the cooked surface as it continuously rotates, stuffed in a fluffy pita bread slathered with a creamy sauce, lettuce, rolled into a wrap and handed to you with an assortment of picked vegetables, usually carrot, beetroot and chilies. Shawarma is a popular street food in the greater Middle East, and Sharjah is where I had my first on my trips in early 2000’s.

In this visit though I managed to get a chicken version on Day 1 hoping to have more throughout the 7 day trip. Picked this beauty from Al Forat Restaurant facing the Fish Roundabout in Al Wasl District Dubai.

Unfortunately this happened to be my first and last in this trip, but nevertheless it was a delicious one with wonderful Arabic flavours exuding out of this deliciously cooked meat, served with a large chili that oozed out all the pickled juices, it was a messy affair but the me to remember back home.

I wasn’t expecting much when my friend took me to this place. But boy did this turn out to a pleasant surprise.

The Mix Grill (AED47) is really up there in terms of quality and taste. The veggies (tomato, onion) used were very very fresh. Usually these sides are not much thought upon and exist only to visually complement the dish. We always joke these tomatoes/onions are generously served to add up the weight of the mix grill (half kilo contains 50 gms of actual meet and 450 grams of everything else).

The Hummus/Salad itself served once seated set the bar high. The picked veggies and fresh cuts were fresh!

The meats were perfectly grilled, tasted great and portion sizes are apt for 2persons. Normal Kuboos/ Pita-bread is served.

Tried their Falafel out of curiosity. Fresh, crispy and delicious! 2 falafels cost 1AED.

Indoor (about 4 tables) and outdoor seating is arranged. Place is not generous on space but felt comfortable. Parking may be difficult.

My friend remarked they prefer Forat when it’s Arabic cuisine on the day’s menu.

It's an Arabic restaurant famous for its falafel 🧆
Hommos and falafel are worth trying.
They also, have fresh juice and milkshakes.
The price is a little bit higher as compared to another Arabic restaurants.
Staff service is the worst, they only like to serve Arabic customers as they think we are asking for free.

Been there last week for dinner. Not satisfied with the service. Feels like bit overpriced about what they offer and what they serve.

We have ordered a mixed barbecue combo platter for four and what they served was hardly enough for four. At least they could have told us that this platter wont be enough for four or so. And it wasn’t worth money dish comparing to other similar restaurants.

Staffs at this place is not good enough to treat their customers. They think once they received and served a table. Dont have to check on them again even if they needed anything else from the menu. They dont even bother to ask.Have seen them arguing with each other during the time we dine.

I saw the ratings and number pf people attending i got excited and went there, and found out that it's overpriced, 1 plate of mix shawerma for 45 dhs that too much in comparison to the same area other restaurants, so i end up with 1 shawerma chicken for 7 dhs and 4 pieces of flafel for 2 dhs.

The taste is normal, nothing extreme or super about it, the staff was trying to be kind but i can see they're already tiered as i went in the night, so I'll not judge them.

Place quite and small can fit for 10 people max, and it's clean, not sure I'll go again as the price keep me off
