It's not easy to navigate. Aside from its huge size, there are networks of exits and sea of people that add to our confusion of sense of direction!!! We were having a hard time looking for the Via Rail station within the Union Station!!! There seems to be a rarity of staff because we couldn't find one when we needed it most. So when we found a security staff, he directed us to the right spot. We missed it because there IS no very visible and accurate signage! It's upsetting especially if you are a stranger in the city.
Very busy station with everything in one place: streetcar, subway and Go trains. Easy to get lost but there are boards and directions to guide you. Also has shops attached to it which can add to further confusion. One of the nice thing is its architecture. Very beautiful.
Union station is one of Toronto’s most visited national historic sites. Built during the First World War, Union station was Toronto’s first ambassador’s welcoming immigrants to a new world and a gateway towards Canada’s western provinces. Construction of this Beaux Art design structure was officially completed and opened by His Royal Highness, Edward prince of Wales in 1927.
The massive building was used by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), the Canadian National Railway (CNR) and many other feeder railway lines to carry passengers and cargo across Canada. Currently it is used as a connecting hub by VIA rail, Go Transit and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).
I suggest that you look around the station’s architecture to see historic carvings in the Zumbro and limestone walls and foundations. Then just imagine what stories these echoing walls could tell.

Yes it may be an very attractive building but, boy, it is ridiculously complicated. The GO train part is fairly simply but the rest just seems like a massive rabbit warren. I was using it for three days and I don't think I ever managed to come out of the same subway entrance once!

Union Station is a hub for every means of public transport available in Toronto. Even though it is a transit place it is also a destination by itself. Wide open spaces, abundant seating, shopping, fast foods places, sit down restaurants, and even some shopping. Adequate signage, exits, and friendly staff located everywhere to answer your questions make navigating Union station a breeze. I discover something new each time I come here.
Passed through Union Station Toronto several times during a visit to Toronto in late May 2023. Huge transport hub in a historic building. It has a shopping mall and many eateries. Signage is good and it is fairly easy to navigate.
Nicely designed to manage the flow of passengers with enough elevators and corridors. With food court and access to streets, nice junction to catch train, bus, go, subway for east, west, north, south Anywhere.
