Bottom line: most expensive & worst theater experience I've had post-pandemic

I travel full time and like to watch discount Tuesday movies wherever I go. Most places, this is in the neighborhood of $5 - Cinema West, Cinemark, Regal all provide that (though usually you have to be a member of their free membership tier.) And mind you, every theater I've been to this year has those nice recliner seats, sometimes even loveseats if you want to cuddle up.

When I visited home for Christmas, I've been disappointed to find the Tuesday discount for AMC theaters is $9, well above the rest of the country. And that's for aging, non-recliner seats, and an overall filthy theater. (And that's besides the overall rudeness of other people - cell phone usage, talking out loud, propping bare feet up on the backs of seats, etc. This last time, the guy sitting right in front of me left halfway through the movie to smoke a joint. The fumes when he came back made my eyes water.)

I will say, I went to a special showing in the "Big D" theater and enjoyed it more. The seats are more comfortable, but I'd still hate to watch a "Killers of the Flower Moon"-length movie in them. And the sound in both movies this week was very good, theater temp ok, and the young staff does well.

One last word about parking. In big letters above the door walking in, they proclaim free parking with your movie ticket. Park in the garage above and they'll validate your pass BUT that's only good for 3 hours. For my 3-hour movie, I was parked for 3.5 hours and had to pay $3 that I wasn't expecting - felt like one more kick in the pants on the way out! Better to park for free on the street after 6pm.

I'd rather drive to *any* other theater than revisit the downtown AMC that's literally around the corner from where I'm staying. And as run-down as the Chattanooga Regal is, for the prices and recliners, I'll probably only go there.

I don't think Chattanoogans know how bad they have it with AMC. It's not like this in other cities.

Friendly and helpful staff. Easy parking situation. Utterly worthless cinematic presentation. Projection was blandly bright on a darkly lit film washing the strong cinematography out to muddled greys, with an exit sign positioned so that it actually glowed over the lower left corner of the screen. During bright daylight scenes the white could be seen to visibly flicker. Audio was pathetically low, with the trailers booming louder than the film itself. All in all, would have been better served waiting to watch the film at home on my modestly sized 4k a few months from now, an embarrassment in cinematic presentation. Shame on AMC, but thanks to the regularly helpful staff. -Sept. 17: 'A Haunting in Venice", 7:00 showing

The staff is always friendly but this theater is in need of significant cleaning and some remodeling. The vents on the side of the drink machines have a thick layer of dust, which makes me worry about the cleanliness of the drink and ice dispenser itself. The women's bathroom could use a good, deep cleaning and the carpeted area before entering the bathroom needs to be replaced. The flickering fluorescent light above one of the stalls would add a great spooky element to your movie experience if you are seeing a horror film. The whole building just seems very dated and a little grimey. Also, this location does not have recliner seating (none of the Chattanooga AMCs do), which is unfortunate because I prefer the AMC selection of movies, but the Hamilton Place Regal has recliner seating, which is a game-changer.

The place was filthy. The family bathroom smelled like an outhouse and there was hair in the dirty sink. The screen was blank during the previews which they said would not happen when the actual movie started . Not true, it was blank then too. Had to wait for a manager to fix it ten minutes into the movie.
Oh and the popcorn was stale. Never again. Will stick to the Hixson location from now on.

We saw Oppenheimer in the morning. First showing of the day. The theater was filthy! The register, the drink station, all the carpets and surfaces… looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed or cleaned in days. And we walked into the theater the screen was to small for the picture. I know Barbenheimer has been a lot for theaters but holy cow this place was gross. Great movies tho. Cheers.

Theater was great. Staff was kind.

Homeless man in the lobby soliciting for money was quite aggressive about getting a $20 bill from us when he saw that’s all we had. Said he was hungry so offered to buy him some food but said he just wanted the money. Followed us from one side of the lobby to the other and even up to the counter where the workers are. The younger girl working behind the counter asked if he was bothering us. I was irritated by his insistence on getting the $20 but not bothered necessarily. Will always give to someone in need and may have even given the $20 had he not been rude. Would benefit from hiring a security guard for the lobby to keep patrons and staff safe prevent unsolicited gestures.

Family bathroom needed to be cleaned. Soda was kinda flat which isn’t cool when it cost over $15 for 2 drinks.

The theater itself was nice. We saw a movie in the Big D. Screen was big. Sound was great.

Staff was friendly. Lobby had quite a bit of trash, maybe it was just after the rush? If you follow the signs on the theaters front door to the free parking garage make sure that you take your parking ticket inside the theater so they can validate or you will pay for parking however it’s only good for two hours max is what the parking garage attendant told me. Street parking after 6pm is free, keep that in mind. All in all I will return.
