I never thought I would be giving a 5 Start review. But hear me out. For the first time, a lady picked up the phone, she was so cautious, calm and assertive. I was shocked! I was like, am I I dreaming.

After I laid down my complaints, I was assured that I would get a response with regards to my complaints.

Guess what…

The next day, I got a call from the same lady and I was like 😳 is this for real. She assured me that I should get an update soon.

But I wish they tighten this relationship across board. It’s not that hard, you just have to be firm with your policies, structure, hire the right people and always work hard for the people cos we the tax payers are the ones who keep your job going - it’s a win win for us all.

I was very impressed with how my experience went at the NYC consulate. Their website had the most updated information in terms of required documents and when I arrived there for my appointment I was in and out in under three hours or so and the staff was very professional. I also got my passport in exactly six weeks! So I’d recommend going to the NYC CONSULATE.

Nobody answers the phone, I cannot even leave a message. Nobody responds to emails. I applied for a tourist visa online a week ago. I think I need to buy a flight ticket just to go to New York for some "biometric interview", but nobody gives me instructions and the website is dysfunctional.

So, I went to the consulate thinking I was prepared, only to find out that I needed two copies of one of the documents I printed from their website (nothing on their website said you needed two copies) - my advice to folks; take two copies of the three documents you printed out from their website.
By and large, they were mostly nice, except for the younger guy in the screening room. He looked and sounded angry, in my head I was like “it is not a crime to make a mistake you know.”

These reviews are troubling {Bribe?} and it seems no one from the consulate is reviewing it and respond appropriately. I went for my passport renewal since October, 2022. It’s now August, 2023. I’m yet to receive my passport. Send countless of emails and made countless of phone calls but no response. The website shows undelivered passports. I’m not surprise if it takes this long to renew a passport while different life events has taken place. People moves, relocation to a different cities, states and addresses. Stick to your SOP and provide updates consistently. I’ll update base on my overall experience but I’m still waiting…

Consulate General of Nigeria in New York is full of all sort of corrupt acts that will wreck the office, if urgent action is not taken.
This is a Consulate where the staff there care more about bribe for speedy official duties to be carry out, once you did not give out bribe, the normal time for you to collect your passport, in case of passport renewal, will be move ahead and nothing will be done to continue the process. Secondly, this is a consulate that asked you to track your passport or whatever services you go there for, and nothing about your service is updated or put on their website, the result gotten after tracking is "not found" after 8 weeks instead of the official 6 weeks given. Thirdly, the customer service representative lack good customer service. Argue with you about what she lack knowledge of, not a good listener as well. After the whole issue, a call back came in, after a couple of hours that the renewed passport is been produced, and dumped in their( passport) office after 9 weeks instead of 6 weeks, i only heard about it, not seen it talk less of touching it. However, I know people that went after me and bribed them that got theirs within days and were able to travel with to Nigeria while I was deprived by this Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, and came back to the States, and I am yet to receive Mine.

I appreciate that the staff were mostly polite, however, I followed all the instructions stated on their website, only for them to post additional instructions at the consulate itself - making everyone go to a nearby store with which they are affiliated, to print additional documents.
We were told it would take 6 weeks to get our renewed passports, it has been almost 10 weeks and there is no passport, and no update. No one has responded to my emails and the voicemail box is full. This is truly not acceptable. I have had to change my travel plans because of this.
Consulate of Nigeria New York, you can do better!
