Just when you think unique experiences are extinct, you see poster on a billboard and find yourself at the Cineforum, more than once.
I don't know where else you can find such a place, with such a person as Reg and the knowledge he possesses. Thank you Reg.

Came here on a Wednesday to see Metropolis, and it was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had in Toronto. The theatre is set up in Reg’s living room - there’s a huge screen and a ton of cool decor. Reg does a talk at the beginning and during the intermission of the movie - mostly about his life and experiences in the industry. If you’re expecting an in-depth analysis of the film, that’s not what this is, but you will get his pov on some of the main themes.

Reg composes his own score for the movie - intermingling the new music with the film music - so if you’re looking to watch with the original audio, keep that in mind. The new score definitely added to the unique experience.

All in all, I’d recommend Cineforum if you’re looking for a interesting movie-watching experience in the city. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I’m really glad I went!

As an American (United States) who for most of my life lacked real urbanite experiences and whose exposure to certain necessary "counter-cultural" experiences has been sadly limited, I will say the following. The one time I took in a movie viewing at The Cineforum was some time in maybe 2010 or 2011 after returning to Toronto from which I had moved away after living there for 5 years. "Don't it always seem to know that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone?" sang Hartt's fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell. Or in this case...Don't it always seem to know that you don't know what you got until you move away? I honestly thought, the one time I went to CineForum, that Mr. Hartt was a little strange although fiercely intelligent, but now I think that it was my lack of understanding of him that prohibited me from being more comfortable in the experience. My guesses about his brushes with the law are that they were generated probably by some people who consider him a threat to a status quo that doesn't deserve to remain a status quo. From my (limited) understanding of his aesthetics and platform, he dares to question the politics and culture that dominate over controversial subjects, calling us to question our assumptions about those controversial subjects. If I am ever lucky enough to live in Toronto again, while he is still alive and active in his current role, I would like to think that I would revisit his establishment several times.

Reg Hartt is a Toronto original. His stories are entertaining and engaging and the movies he shows are wild. His talks are a treat too. His home is full of curios and weird stuff to look at, and he is a friendly guy. Worth checking out for a unique experience. Byob

Reg Hart advertises his wed. night screening as PWYC but warning!!! this is not the reality. We tried to give him what we could afford as we are low income artists, but he told us to get out and never come back again! He was so shockingly rude that I strongly discourage anyone from supporting this man's business. He doesn't deserve your money.

Incredible trip through sublime juggling, acting and interpersonal introspection incinevitro. Thanks Reg for your hospitality. I felt like I was attending the new heights of perception film college. I left laughing, singing and dancing.

This is the best cinema in Toronto. Intimate and lovingly curated. Not fancy, maybe a little worn, but done proper. Reg Hartt is a tyrant (he will kick you out if he feels you don't deserve to be there), but he is the most knowledgeable person in the business. This theatre is an institution and a gem of the city.
