54 buildings to explore and capture life from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Such a great place to capture history!!

While we managed to make it on the hottest weekend of the year - it was still a great time. Most of the buildings are air-conditioned. It was easy to get around for our full family. And very informative. There is enough to see and do to easily make it a full day.

I've been twice now with my son's and it's always fascinating. I love walking through the reconstructed buildings, showing how Wichita used to be. I also appreciate how respectful of the native Americans the museum is. They don't sugar-coat or glamorize the events from history, but rather present them with objectivity. The display about Mexican, Black, and Native American cowboys and how most cowboy gear derived from caballero culture is great for the kids to learn. The gunfight show is a lot of fun and the sarsparilla at the saloon is delicious. If you only stop by one exhibit, make it the blacksmith studio. The gentleman who works the forge with only period tools is extremely knowledgeable and mesmerizing to watch. Also, the walk to the Old Town had lots of cool facts about the evolution of Wichita, even up to modern times.

I'm not from Kansas, but I do call Wichita home these days. I'm proud to be an adopted Wichitan and learn about the by-gone era that shaped the city's future.
