Dinner at @ilbacaromelbourne from a couple of months back: Italian fine dining with really delicious food and lovely service! A bit on the pricey side (e.g. 34$ entrees) but the quality is pretty top notch.
.
Entrees:
- Ricotta & Pecorino Zucchini Flowers, cos, mascarpone, miso, pumpkin seed, egg yolk: like an explosion of flavour in your mouth!
- Calamari lightly battered and fried - entree size - split into 3 portions: this was some of the most tender calamari I've ever had! So good 😍😍😍😍.
.
Primi / pasta / risotto:
- Spaghettini, Moreton Bay bugs, "olio visadi", garlic, chilli, rocket - also portioned into 3 separate plates! Such nice service 😊😊. Flavours were fantastic!
- Risotto, spanner crab, corn, lime: amazing!
.
Secondi:
- Suckling Pig, fennel, black pudding, yoghurt gelato: couldn't pass up suckling pig! Perfect crackling 🤩😋.
- Fish of the day - Swordfish fish fillet with jalapeno: not spicy. Super yummy!
.
Sides:
- Potatoes, sun-dried tomato, oregano
- Roasted cauliflower, ricotta salata, balsamic
.
Dessert:
Rhubarb, fermented honey crumble, apple sorbet, rose meringue, shiso: what an interesting mix of flavours! Love the combination of tart and sweet flavours.

The food was amazing with the John Dory as a main really good. The cheesecake desert, as recommended by the waiter, the best I have had. The experience was fantastic.

Brilliant food, excellent service.

Definitely not traditional but plays on some classic dishes really well.

We happened to get a really good flow of light, heavy, then light dishes in the courses by going for the scallops to start, with zucchini flowers, then the duck for mains and ended on a pleasant note with the rhubarb crumble.

The lychee and rose spritz was really good too. Great experience overall.

I can't think of many places I've gone 2 nights in a row, but the cheesecake had a magnetic pull. The perfect combination of texture and taste. This dessert is a journey.

Very cramped space but they do provide high chairs.

We ordered rabbit roll entrée which was just two pieces of rolls & very tiny tiny portion of foie gras, I thought it was a waste of money.

We ordered the moreton bay bugs pasta, wild boar Ragu & goat agnolotti and suckling pig for mains. The moreton bay bugs had a weird taste, the meat was not fresh, it's like those cheap seafood that's been dipped In something. The Ragu was a bit salty for us, the goat agnolotti was just right.

For sides we had the cauliflower & the potatoes, both were just ok too.

The highlight of the meal would the the desserts, both honey baked figs & walnut crumble and agave nectar cheesecake were delicious.

So far my favourite dining experience in Melbourne. These photos are from our previous night spent at this excellent italian restaurant.

The staff are amazingly detailed and helpful leaving nothing overlooked. The food is beyond devine!

The drinks are dangerously well made 😆
Cannot praise them enough!

Gratzi Il Bacaro! Until next time!

Always love an encounter with Il Bacaro. The staff create a wonderful atmosphere and the food is always on point.

An intimate venue, ideal for a special occasion, a catch up with friends or a business conversation.
