While it’s commendable to gather up and study bits of flint and tools from ancient times, displaying them in a single large room is kind of a drag. Then when you throw in mediocre old painting the average viewer doesn’t really know what to do with it. It’s all housed in a beautiful building so what is the point of all this?
On a side note, a comic book exhibit was as clever and interesting as it was random.

Very nice museum with lots of old historical stuff. Very pretty exterior facade and very friendly staff. I'm only giving it 3 stars because despite it's interesting content its very thrown in haphazardly and not very well explained. Also every piece of information is in french which means for a non French speaker it's very hard to truly understand this museum.
Exquisite collection of prehistory in 3 rooms at 1st floor accessible by staircase only. While a lot of museums are free access on 1st Sunday of the month, we had to pay to visit this wonderful museum
Beautiful building with passable displays. The immense collection of flint from the stone age fills the largest room in the museum and provides about as much stimulation as the most part of the artwork, which is a mediocre collection of some Dutch and medieval works as well as a tiny selection of local modern art. The most interesting display is in the courtyard where there are many columns, graves and carvings found in Perigeux. Luckily the price is low and free for children. Far better museums for prehistory in the area, eg the Lascaux cave centre, and to see artwork opt for a visit to one of the chateaus' private collections, eg Dinan.
No coherence, weird mix of Neanderthal and modern art. For French speaking people only, no translations provided. Nothing interactive. It may cater for stone age arrow gatherers. Nice people though.
The perfect provincial town museum with an eclectic collection: a bit of everything. I preferred the beaux-arts section and the 20th century paintings. The museum needs to rethink its presentation though to make it more attractive.
