The Chinese bunkhouse was a remarkably well-kept and informative exhibit on some of the conditions that early Chinese migrant workers lived and worked. It was a moving experience for me because my great-grandfather came to Canada during this time (early 1900s). I cannot imagine leaving your family behind, and taking a steamship that would take 35-45 days to reach Vancouver - only to face such harsh living conditions. At least today we have the internet to stay connected.

We were there about three weeks ago and Google maps said that they were open but they were not. I’m sorry I should’ve edited it but completely forgot. Even though the doors were closed it’s still a very nice area to walk around in and it’s not far to the village itself. You could actually park in Steveston and walk there and if you’re really ambitious you can walk all the way to the Massey tunnel. Or Bicycle. With nice weather it’s very pleasant. Bring some sandwiches and your favourite beverage- enjoy !

Judging by the quality of other attractions at this site, this building probably deserves a better rating, but it was closed for a private function during posted operating hours. Private functions should take place after regular hours.

While it's not necessarily a happy place to visit it's an important part of Vancouver history that is incredibly well preserved
