The studio is beautiful, filled with Artemide lamps, architect-designed details, and located by Eccleston Yards. One thing is clear, they have put a lot of money into this studio and secured a brand new building to house it.
Given this, one would expect a great experience. But the studio is essentially, style over substance.
Having attended a taster throwing class a while ago now, I still haven't been able to shake the experience of receiving really bad service. This has been reflective of me joining a different pottery studio after a fantastic taster course.
For the price that I paid which was £140 for 2/3 hrs, I never once felt like I knew what I had to be doing, and the class size was relatively small(up to 6). The tutor, I think his name was Josh, while seemingly a good potter, was a poor tutor. He did not break the techniques down well or make them easier to understand for a non-potter.
Finally, at the end the studio manager promised we'd all get an email when our pots were ready, a month had gone by and nothing. After contacting them, they said the 'kiln gods' claimed it. Which for a studio that charges that much, I would have expected them to keep a close eye on kiln times, glazing liquidity, drying times etc. But as I said, it's style over substance, so they offered be 10% off to book onto another taster...

We had an amazing time at Studio Pottery London with Lev as our teacher as a taster session. It was great to first learn the different techniques on the pottery wheel and then we got to try out what we saw.
Lev taught us how to wedge – prepare the clay – as well as centre – secure the clay on the wheel – and throw – pulling up the walls of the clay into a cylinder.
Looking forward to collecting our glazed and fired pieces in a few weeks!

I used to do pottery a long time ago and wanted to take it up again, but had forgotten the techniques. I decided to have two private lessons with Gregory, before joining a foundation class, and it was delightful. He expertly demonstrated the techniques on the wheel and walked me through it and helped me as I practiced. A lovely pot and small vase were the results. I can’t wait to start the foundation classes in the beautiful studio.

Came here for a corporate evening event. We had booked out the studio, but really disappointed about the experience for the high cost. The guy spent ages doing a demonstration, which nobody could follow. There were a few helpers but they just did the pottery for you instead of trying to teach. Also at the end, the staff very rudely hurried everyone out into the rain. You can get much better classes for a fraction of the price elsewhere in London.

I booked a private class with Eugene Chung! I would highly recommend Eugene if you are keen to get pottery techniques right. Although it was a one-off session, I found that the class was appropriate for my level and just what I needed to refine my throwing techniques. Eugene is very easy-going which makes the class enjoyable and a nice environment for learning. I had taken some group classes in the past but I would recommend taking this private lesson by Eugene if you’re just starting out to get the techniques correct from the start. Eugene knows when to help you out when you are stuck during the process and encourages confidence at every step.
The studio itself is lovely and has a nice big window which allows natural light in! It is also a few stones throw from Victoria train and bus station.
I will definitely book this class again when I’m in London in the future. Can’t recommend it enough!

We had a private with Gregory and it’s was just incredible. It’s a beautiful setting in the heart of london, and Gregory was an amazing and kind teacher. It’s was the perfect introduction to pottery, his instructions where clear and concise, and he also shared a few of his incredible stories too. He is a very talented artist as well as teacher. Time literally flew and before we knew it our session was drawing to the end. I am completely hooked and will definitely be back for some more. Thank you guys!

An outstanding members studio and great place to learn the fundamentals of studio pottery. Being in the heart of London means you connect with enthusiastic hobbyists, and experienced ceramic artists. With specialist guest speakers and live events happening throughout the year.
I joined in 2019 as a member, and have benefitted a great deal from the space, top facilities and experienced staff. Now as a teacher at SPL, I can say first hand that the studio is perfect for beginners and intermediate makers alike.
