What’s not to love about Italy! Assisi is one of the most beautiful cities located in the Tuscan region! The churches alone are spectacular and the you’re surrounded by beautiful country! Although you may not be in Rome or Venice, Tuscany is well worth the relaxing trip!
We drove up all the way to the top in our little Volkswagen Up! The area above the tree line o ly has gravel roads, some pretty rocky, but if you drive slowly no problem. The views from the top are awesome in all directions. You can see Monte Vettore and also the Gran Sasso massif further south. There are a number of hiking trails laid out too.

Beautiful hike from Spello to Assisi, around 19 km, enjoying amazing views of the ancient (and disappeared), Tiberino lake, actually transformed in the very fertile umbra valley, and the unique landscape formations, the doline, depressions caused by collapsed caves in ancient times.
I know there's a longer route (which I haven't personally taken), that goes along an ancient Roman aqueduct

It's very beautiful up there and the views are amazing!
A wind-swept wilderness with patches of snow abound in April. Some roads were closed and some areas suffered after an earthquake last year so be prepared for plan B. Our dogs were happy to cool off in the snow though 😁
