The history of Athens is amazing. The achievements of that era incredible! Υou will see the Sanctuary of Pan near to the Fountain of Pnyx going down the Apostolou Pavlou pedestrian street, on a very beautiful walking path from the Akropolis to Thiseio. A rock-cut, underground chamber, accessible through a door-shaped opening chiselled directly on the bedrock, was revealed after excavations. On the north wall is a relief, chiselled directly on the bedrock, presenting Pan, a nymph and a dog.

Pan was the god of fields, mountains, flocks and wild nature in general. It had the head and torso of a man, the feet of a goat, horns and pointed ears. According to Greek mythology he was born in the mountains of Arcadia. His father was Hermes and his mother was a nymph. When his mother saw him, she was frightened by his appearance and abandoned him. Hermes saw the scene, took him in his arms and took him to Olympus, where the gods welcomed him.

The access is not available for the public, it is visible from the pedestrian road.

On the slopes of the Acropolis are several shrines that played a vital role in the religious life of the ancient Athenians. Archaeological excavations carried out during the unification work of the archaeological sites in Athens have revealed, to the intersection of two ancient roads, an underground chamber accessible through a door-shaped opening. The excavations reveal frescoes and a mosaic related to the architectural styles of late antiquity. At close range above the camera, part of the "Eastern Road" can be seen, the remains of two houses with a system of underground cisterns.
The cult of Pan in the caves in the 5th century BC. is well documented in the ancient city.

The history of Athens is seriously amazing. How much empires achieved and what they built without the technology we've today.
