I came to this place after almost 13 years. The food quality has fallen to garbage in this time. The staff are horrendous. Completely unresponsive, wait time over an hour.

We left some dishes untouched. And not to mention extremely overpriced.

I came here with my 2 aunts and mom. One struggles to walk, we made a sincere effort given how great our experience in the past was. I could not be more regretful.

Will never come here again and will advise my friends who have had good experiences in the past to completely avoid.

Horrible.

Went to this place after about 30 years. This is one of the first beach restaurants on this stretch, if I remember. Food was okay. Vibe was extremely laid back and a tiny bit gloomy. Serving staff could be better trained to provide more info to patrons. They were pretty clueless when asked about their dishes.
All in all it was nice to go back.
Recommended if you're looking for a low key beach dining experience.

WoW Wow unbeliabke you don’t feel you are just a few meters from the center of Colombo. The food is great 😊 and rates are very affordable… have been a few times, always contented 😌 and will return soon… thanks to the staff too …

I had been to the Beach Wadiya decades ago. Always one of my favorite stops when I am in Colombo. The place has character. For one, you have to cross train tracks (there is a path) to get to the entrance. It is very basic, hardly any decor, but the tables and chairs are on beach sand. The areas are covered. And you have a direct view of the beautiful ocean. I came here with a plan, and that was to eat lobster. They have only a few variations and I chose the grilled preparation (which they said was prepared over a flame) with melted butter. I chose a 650g lobster (price is 2k rupees per 100g). When the dish arrived at my table, I was immediately disappointed.

Both the top (meat) and the bottom (shell) part had no signs of being subjected to a flame (no charring anywhere). It came out with a dry look. I poured butter on it, let it soak for a while and then consumed it. It kept bothering me, so I addressed it with the server and told him that it was clearly the boiled preparation. He admitted that it was boiled but put on the fire after that. I told him that was not accurate. For dessert I had the fruit salad with ice cream.

We went to Beach Wadiya today 17th December 2023 for sea food lunch. The only fish that available was cuttle fish only and we ordered fried rice, devilled cuttle fish and kankun. The taste of the food was horrible. More than half of the food we didn't have and service was very poor. Not recommending this place to anyone as it will be just a waste of money.

Super nice place located on the beach on the rim of the ocean. The tables are standing on the sand of the beach which adds to the genuine feeling of this old place that was washed away during the tsunami in 2004 and later rebuilt.

The food was excellent, the best fish I ever had (Mullet) but also cuttlefish, prawns and lobster. They had a lovely kind of varm sallad with vegetables and red onion with a salty (soya?) taste that we ate. Have never eaten anything like it in Europe but it's a must buy if you visit this place!

Be careful about following their rice recommendations though as they are based on the locals and are enormous portions. We ordered half of what they recommended and still only ate half of that so we got a big doggy bag with rice to bring back home.

When you eat you can hear the waves coming in, in the background a very soothing sound.

I would definitely go here again when I'm in Colombo 🙂
