When I come here I feel like I'm back in the roaring 1950s. Its the Eisenhower administration. The korean war, better known as the forgotten war, had come to an end 2-3 years earlier. And I'm at school with the little rock nine. I love history. I can spend a whole day here. Lol. This is one of my all time favorite places to go to in little rock.

Explains problems the 9 students faced as they entered the school for the 1st time as the 1st black students in a previously all white school. The end of segregation.

I highly recommend the guided tour with Ranger Rebecca. She is extremely knowledgeable and adds tenfold to this important story. A quality experience that will touch your soul

A beautiful school with potent history. Built in 1927, I would have visited the school alone but, with the story of the Little Rock Nine, it’s almost palpable to walk the steps of the school.
Be sure to visit the National Park Service museum caddy corner to the school.

We really enjoyed the museum. So well laid out. The pics, videos and listening centers. We stayed there for hours!!

The central high museum was incredible! It's small, but a must-see in little Rock. What we learned in school just skimmed over the story, so it was very eye-opening to be able to learn about the events leading up to and what happened after the Little Rock 9 were admitted to the school.
The facts, photos, and soundbites were so poignant and well done.
We also enjoyed the NPS app for the self-guided walking tour which let's you walk the route to the school with accompanying audio and gives you an immersive and heart-wrenching experience.

One of the best civil rights museums. The courage to tell the truth that "not everyone is created equal" under the US constitution deserves recognition. A governor can defy a court order, presenting himself above the law. This is exactly what the governor of Arkansas at the time did in an effort of resisting desegregation. He deployed national guards to surround the Central High School and denied entry to the 9 African-American students. The act of Eisenhower in using the US military to escort the students certainly did not put an end to segregation, but it was absolutely a very important milestone.
