Scam. Tried to call to say we were running late, no answer. Got there, not a soul was around. Look around for a good 20 mins and left with no tour or answer and felt ripped off. Would not recommend
Had a great time, very informative, lots to see. We loved the tunnels and the storys.
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much!
It was a bit on the pricey side but the tour was 1.5hrs long and Tim, our tour guide, was wonderful. He told us fantastic stories of Michigan's more unknown history, the stories of the inmates lives, and weird ways of life in the 1880's. It makes me very thankful for the modern day. Seeing the tunnels underground and solitary were very cool and creepy.
I cannot express how much gratitude & appreciation we had for Jim, our tour guide, last Saturday, at the Historic Prison Tour in Jackson, MI. I took my 11-yr. old dgtr. with me & we both walked away with soooooo much knowledge from this very educational tour. PHENOMENAL 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. We both found Jim to be a very interesting & knowledgeable historian. The building is very unique and it’s quite telling of what these inmates had to live through. The basement was a little eerie, but again, to see what it was like back then to be an inmate in Jackson State Prison was a sight to see. The murals on the main floor, really do give the building life. My daughter said afterwards “that was the coolest tour, Mom. We have to go back & take Dad soon!” Highly, highly recommend making a stop in Jackson, MI & checking out the Historic Prison Tours. If Jim is the tour guide, you will have an EXCELLENT experience ❤️. Thanks again, Jim 🤗.
Have never taken the actual tour but I do live there in the building and the building is awesome. The artwork that is displayed is phenomenal, The overall vibe of the place is eclectic and comfortable the people who live in the building with me are always friendly when you pass them in the hallways and for the most part is very well maintained property. Also being across from Art 364 is actually really cool as I am an artist too, And it helps with the over all visual appeal.
If you’re going to see prison cells, you will be disappointed. This is not Mansfield penitentiary. The cells have been removed. Half of it has been remodeled into apartments. Jim our guide was awesome! Extremely knowledgeable and has a lot of fun facts. Great guy to sit and chat with! I definitely think it’s worth a visit. Remember that part of the cost goes to the historical upkeep of the prison area.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Nice tour but would have liked to see more of prison (did get to see solitary confinement in basement. Creepy). $84 for the two of us. Pricy.
