I walk, run, onewheel and eat near this river walk on a frequent basis.
The amount of trash in the river, on the shore, on the grass, in the bushes, tents, shopping carts, etc, is just astounding. I hear of volunteers cleaning up along the river, if they do, I am ever grateful…..however, whatever is being done is woefully inadequate. The city needs to step in to say the very least.
For one example, I have seen a mattress thrown on the east shore of the river over a year ago. Still there, now covered in nasty slime and mold.
This river and river trail is one of the very few (if not the only) gems in Wichita. I am a transplant here, so Wichita is not even my town. Plus, since no police presence, gas powered mini bikes ride up and down it (very fast) several times a day. Very annoying, and dangerous.
The city of Wichita should be ashamed for the current state of the river and river trail. It is an embarrassment. We have a new mayor, so please don’t just sit on your hands and pass the buck, take action and give us the river walk we deserve (and keep it that way).

Disappointing. Walked north on the western side of the river for the shade. The good - nice shade on a warm day, paved and enjoyed the park around the Keeper of the Plains. Not so good - once you leave the immediate park area, less maintained, trash everywhere and tents in the woods. Would not be comfortable doing it alone as we saw very few people in the 2.5 miles. Come on Wichita! You can do better than this. Travel full time and this trail is near the bottom for us.

A long trail through Wichita, in the downtown area, is well maintained, but even popular, high-traffic downtown sections are becoming the place of residence for the city's homeless and in need of help. Beyond the central downtown area, you quickly notice the lack of maintenance along the river with trash and more displaced people. The city has an excellent resource with the riverwalk, it just needs something besides the Keeper of the Plains to draw folks to one central location and keep people moving and exploring through town.

Riverwalk is very nice, clean, and tons of folk walking and running beautiful things to read along the way. Can rent boats and bikes.

This place is beautiful! I highly recommend it. I took my dog and had a good time just walking the pathway along the water.

The staff at Riverwalk are very nice. I love those ladies in the office they are very helpful!

A picture is worth a thousand words, if we remember to stay present and mindful to witness what life has to offer.
