Easily the best renting experience I’ve ever had! Thank you to the wonderful team at the Metropolitan for having me. Your care and attention to tenants is unmatched.
When I move back to DC, I hope to return to the Metro. :)

I moved in during a snowstorm and DC was basically shut down. The staff at Metro was so helpful! I have moved around a lot for my job and I appreciated their warmth and professionalism. And the apt was pristine. Maintenance is prompt. Hu This landmark building is a gem.

I love the staff at The Metropolitan but today Emmanuel went to extraordinary lengths to retrieve my keys after I accidentally dropped them down the trash chute. Serious hero status!!! Thank you for the extra care!!

He fixed the issue efficiently and even looked into unclogging our bath drain. Plus the kitty was happy he stopped to pet her.

We are SO lucky to have found the Metropolitan! After contacting 50+ places (including some predatory lending schemes), the Metropolitan was truly the only building that was within budget, a 10 minute walk from the metro, and had all the amenities we were looking for (gym, mail room, a beautiful lobby with free coffee, etc.)

The real reason we picked this place though was Janice, the leasing agent, made the entire process so easy — she really goes above and beyond. When I first called and there were no open availabilities, Janice offered to put me on a waitlist and actually followed up with me one month later (no other apartments I’ve worked with have done that). When the apartment we were moving into wasnt get ready for showing, she contacted another resident in the building so we could look at a similar model. She was personally responsive to all our questions, and truly knows each resident by name. She, alongside Russel, Bernice, and Emanuel really sets a community culture at the Metropolitan. Sure, the walls are not always sound proof and the hallways sometimes don’t smell the best — but those are small inconveniences compared to what really matters, the friendly and responsive staff.

I moved from Georgia to DC for grad school and signed a lease here sign unseen. I’m so, so, so happy with my decision. It’s such a quiet, SAFE, peaceful apartment complex. The fellow occupants are so nice, quiet, and friendly. Management is amazing (I especially love Miss Janice) and accommodating. We have a free gym and a small doggy park! We have a lovely outdoor lounge area with tables and benches and grills!

I cannot stress the safety aspect enough though. It is SO safe here. My mail and packages are immediately sent to the mail room as soon as they arrive so no porch pirates. The outside is extremely well lit and our parking lot/garage is so safe and secure that I, a small woman, can comfortable walk alone out there. There is never any yelling, screaming, violence, ANYTHING. Now, it is DC so you will hear gunshots from the city but it will never be at the Metropolitan or on Rhode Island Ave NE at all.

Now, the “cons” (if you can even call them that):

Is there the smell of weed from other tenants? Sure. Does that bother me? Absolutely not! Let people do what they want. It’s just a plant. Like I said before, the fellow tenants are amazing. What they do in their free time is none of my business 🤷🏻‍♀️ If the smell of weed is a deal breaker for you, this isn’t the complex for you (you’ll be missing out though, it’s great here)

You also may not have a parking spot when you first move in (we didn’t have one for a month) but Russell and management will generously work with you during that time to make sure you can still park on the property until a spot becomes available.

While the complex is extremely secure, the locks on the doors inside the apartments (bathroom, bedroom) don’t work. The doorknobs/locks are old style lock and keys and they just don’t work at all. I live with my partner and we never lock the bathroom or bedroom door so it doesn’t bother us but I can easily see this being a problem for a many other people, especially roommates, families with kids, people who have guests over, etc…

Maintenance is really, really, really slow if not nonexistent. I put in a request to fix a small issue with my shower when I moved in here in early July. It’s mid-September and it’s still not fixed. We walked by the maintenance man (an amazingly friendly man, by the way!) a few weeks ago and he said he would be fixing our shower that week. It never happened. It’s not an urgent issue so we’re not upset but I can also see this being a bigger issue for other people who have time sensitive maintenance problems.
