Avignon has several museums that you can visit at no charge. Palais du Roure is one of them. A visit will provide a look at an old bourgeois residence and a slice of Provençal history at the same time. Definitely worth the detour.

This gothic residence was renovated in the 17th century to become le palais du Roure. Les Baroncellis lived here for almost 500 years. It currently houses a collections of paintings and artefacts, amongst which some ancient bells, from the provence region. Free to visit.

The palace is extremely interesting, dating back to the 13th century.

Excellent free historical site of one of the City's socialites making major contributions to the sciences. A great time capsule of a past era. Well worth the visit.
