Chettinad Dosa Palace

We stopped by for dinner on a Saturday evening. Got seated immediately. Medhu vada and cauliflower 65 were good starters. Onion tomato chilli uthapam was tasty. So were gun powder dosas. It comes with masala, we requested the dosas without it; price was same though. Veg kothu paratta was not tasty. Mango lassi , falooda drinks and coffee were good. They seem under staffed. The lady serving us seemed overwhelmed and tired. We had a rather long wait for our food. There is not much of an ambience; very basic and old fashioned interiors.

You will have to wait a lot to get the food. The food isn't even good. The servers are annoyed at you for no reason. One left in minutes we arrived. He took the order and the lady brought the food after a long time. The food was not tasty at all. We had chicken tandoori which was not cooked properly with masala and paratha and roti. I also had masala tea. It was alright. They have good parking and a good location. I don't think I will ever set foot in this restaurant ever again. The server won't clean the tables when people leaves. I wonder what the kitchen look like.

Had Chicken Kotthu and asked them to make it spicy.
It was super spicy and fresh. A little bit of coriander leaves were added on top. It came with a tasty gravy.

Great portion that I shared with another person.

The other day, I tried their Rasam, awesome in flavours and heaven on a rainy day.
Poori and Parata are a bit oily, but tasty.

I was eager to try their idli, but they said that it's not available.

Update : On my second visit, tried Chicken pepper fry with extra spicy. They delivered it as expected high level of spice and tasted great with rice.

But be prepared for many No No. Rasam wasn’t available. Rasamalai and Faluda drink were also both available. So left the place without any desserts.

Food was delicious! And the server Sahil was so sweet and fast with service. We got our utensils and waters immediately after being seated, and were even expedited an appetizer earlier than expected. Cute little spot, I really appreciate the art they have up on the walls. It’s a little run down, but for the food, service, and maybe a little bit of privacy and intimacy w your introverted mate, this spot is perfect. Oh and they checked if the food was dairy free for me beforehand which I really appreciated. (Worth the price it don’t break the bank btw! A dosa is like $10)

I'm being kind while giving away 4 stars to this restaurant, and that's only and only due to the fact that the food was extra spicy, the way we like it. We asked for the food to be made extra spicy and they delivered. Otherwise everything else was going against this restaurant. We were the only ones in the whole restaurant during their lunch service and the food still took over 40 mins to reach our table. Imagine the wait time of it gets busy. The atmosphere is very basic with ventilation being an issue. Go for the food, not for the atmosphere.

Very nice Indian varieties and close to Deer Lake park. Have enough free parking whenever I visit. The waiting time for the dishes is a little longer.

We’ve been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years and it has always been an excellent place for South Indian food.

Growing up in India, we enjoyed dosas, idlis etc in Bombay and Madras.

Our meal today was exceptional! We were so impressed that we ordered food for dinner and a take away for my brother.

We’ve known Dylan our server for all the 10 years we’ve been visiting and his understanding of Indian food has always amazed us. He’s a great guy and always cares for his guests.
